how many programs for IM categorical do you guys think we need to rank...I mean do people ever go that low on the list meaning below 5?

Not sure about IM, but here's a post-Match poll from the Neurology thread

It's more comparable to IM than ENT or other surgical specialties involved in the Early Match (if you read those threads, many people went beyond #5 and some didn't match).

Don't sweat it. I have been recruited from all of my top five choices so I think the programs are in the same boat as we are, trying to get people to go. I have also gotten a personal email from the PD himself (my number 1 choice) wanting me to go there. If you have expressed interest in a particular program and got a positive response, you should be fine (at least I hope so). Most residents at my program got their first, with a few that got their second choice, their first choice being amazing places.
