I graduated from the medical university outside UK, but I would like to do my internship (work as junior house officer) in UK or Ireland. Does anyone know who should I contact when looking for vacancies?
Cheers,
Ay

Hi there Aylid,
I'm sorry, I don't know whom you need to speak with (I'd imagine the GMC or the folks who put out the PLAB), but I think you might want to check this article by a BBC reporter:
http://careerfocus.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/328/7451/219
It brings to light some very important challenges faced by foreign med grads who wish to enter the UK system at the PRHO level. Thought you should have a look!
Good luck.

Hi Calypso,
Thanks for your anwser,
I was justr wondering, I'm EU citizen so my provisional reg should be no problem. I just wondering what's better to stay in US and do residency or to go back and practice in Europe. I would go back but have to get some information about UK/Ireland system.

Ay:
Where do you want to work eventually? If the US, then obviously you should stay there for training, if UK/Ireland then you should come over here. If neither, then it's a little more problematical...
For vacancies your best bet is BMJ Careers (I think that link above comes from their website), but you will need to go through the GMC first to get all your registration details organised first. You may need to take the PLAB as well.
Have you done (or are you able) to do locum work here (in the UK)? It's an excellent way of getting to know the country so you have a idea where you want to work, and you can get your networking contacts in place!
Anyway, good luck with it all
Fiona

I have to dig bmj :):). I was wandering whether you can work as PRHO and do surg / inter in different places or they have to be same trust/hospital?

As I found not so many PRHO posts are available on Bmj. I was wondering whether most of these posts are advertised or just minority (only ones vacant after local med schools fill the vacancies) and to find preety good hospital you have to contact trusts by yourself?

PRHO posts are quite hard to come by if you're coming from outside the UK - the reason being that they are considered part of our training and so all UK students are pretty much guaranteed a post and that leaves very few over. Most people stay in the same hospital for their PRHO year, although you can move around within the Deanery. You would find it very hard indeed to move between Deaneries (?sp).
However, if where you gruaduated from gives you full registration to practice in that country then you could come straight into an SHO post here.
Did you graduate through the US system? Might be easier to do your 1st year in the States, and then move over here.
