Don't buy tarascon/sanford/washington. He probably already has those, or will get them free.

Get him a nice blank diary that will fit in a labcoat pocket for important notes.

I have heard that British text book of internal medicine- Davidsons principle and practice of medicine-latest edition is awesome! with great illustrations and reader friendly.
Someone said that it is more interesting than playboy magazine. May be you should consider this book.

Internal Medicine On Call is a great book. It is broken down as cases or problems that are most common to an intern on call. Works through questions you should ask the nurse, history, phy.sical exam, labs and rads to order, diff dx and then plan of attack. I really like it. Very practical

Ok guys I got the Practical Guide to the care of the medical patient by Ferri

Its really nice, shows just about every common adult disease, what to check for, how to diagnosis it, treatment options, includes color pictures of cases, and more
