How important is the grade you get in your medicine rotation when you apply for interviews. Our school basically puts all the weight on our shelf exam and that dictates whether or not you get P, HP, or H. Looking forward to any input,

Thanks

Are you applying to internal medicine? If so, your 3rd year clerkship grade is pretty important. Although if it's based entirely on the shelf score, and you aren't a strong standardized test taker, you can probably address this issue in your personal statement. With positive LOR's and a good performance on a IM subinternship (done as early as possible) you should be ok. IM isn't so competitive that you won't match at all if you don't honor the clerkship. (Although a strong performance on shelf and in the clerkship will definitely open some doors.)

Thanks for the reply. Just to be sure... I did well on my step 1 (90th percentile) and am looking to go to the east coast. I also have great LOR and have Internal med SubI's set up as well as some research in the works. Will they still look as strongly at my shelf exam score (i.e.- my grade in Internal medicine?)

other factors, already did some research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering and am from a US medical school.

Look forward to any help to ease my anxiety :o
