After 6 months of having a scar, is it still important to stay out of the desert sun (Las Vegas 110 degree weather)?

I hear that scars burn easily and that it is important to keep out, but for how long? After a 7 inch laceration on the cheekl, when can one enjoy the pool, sun, etc.
