Does your med school have a wireless network? Do they set it up so you can use your laptops in class?

What about Palms?

Emory...none of the above :thumbdown

It's going to stink going from a school that was completely wireless (well at least the only building I was ever in), to a school where two floors (out of seven) are wireless, and those two floors not being floors I'm gonna visit all that much.

I remeber reading that some of the schools were adding music download subscriptions into the fees as protection from lawsuits. Ie, "we know your gonna download it... so your gonna pay for it too!" ... Is that part of the Duke ipod program?

Oh, Case is completely wireless all over campus. You don't even need to be a student to use it. You just connect as 'guest'.

GW is giving it to their students for free! Apparently some donor set this up. Actually, it makes good sense for universities to do this. If they have a deal with one vendor (Napster in this case) you can have students download clean copies so don't infect and crash the servers. On top of that, you are viewed favorably by the students. Can you imagine how many high school kids applying to GW who saw that? I'm willing to be GW started moving up their lists  BTW, the Univ. of South Dakota (of all places) started giving Palms to their students (undergrad & med) in 2001!!! Anyway, here's a link for the GW article:

Napster Subscriptions in Residence Halls Aimed at Halting Illegal Downloading

George Washington University this fall will become one of a small number of colleges to attempt a novel solution to the problem of students illegally downloading music from the Internet:

On top of that, you are viewed favorably by the students. Dang! nice article. What I remember from the other article was that the students (non GW students ;) )who have no desire to download songs (yes, they do exist...probably the english writing majors mostly though :p) felt they were having to give their money to an outside company for something that had nothing to do with their education. ie "you can't do a good job of policing it so you are making ME subsidize it? WTF!"

They might as well give out free divx, apps, games, and pr0n and not just music.

Mr. Reddly, you goin' to Case med?

802.11b wireless access in the lecture halls and almost every other place you can find a med student, complete with Lectures on Line. Life is good in Minnesota.

totally wireless at Columbia, even outside (how unecessary, but still cool). Columbia's kinda gone too far with the whole technology thing--I mean, a completely paperless financial aid department? Even the award letter is only online now? Kind of ridiculous.

My undergrad, Providence College, did it a bit better, just had wireless in the library, which is really the only place you ever need it anyway. I really don't see the need for outdoor wireless, but that's just me.
