I am currently on one for S-VT or VT , not really clear. Well, someone told me in passing that they can cause CHF, is this really true in an otherwise healthy person?

I don't think long term use of beta blocker can give you heart failure. matter in fact, they use beta blockers in certain class of heart failure as treatment. You should investigate as to WHY you have SVT or VT. hope this help

In short, the answer to your question is no.

In someone who has acute heart failure, B-Blockers can make things worse. In someone with stable heart failure they have been shown to reduce mortality and are a mainstay of treatment. In a normal person, they lower heart rate and blood pressure.

Thank you for your responses. I know, atleast from the test my cardio guy has done, that he thought that I have VT from an extra circuit in my heart, he mentioned the "circus rythme theory" but I heard that recent evidence discounts this. They wanted to do an EP study (I refused because a friend of mine almost died during his) so I just did an Echo, stress-test, and I wore a heart monitor. Caught several events and I have been on beta blockers for two years. I was just wondering about CHF because at times I get edema in my hands, face, and feet.

hi,

Would you mind explaining what all the acronyms mean for the uninitiated/curious.

SVT = supraventricular tachycardia
VT = ventricular tachycardia
EP = electrophysiology (study)
CHF = congestive heart failure
