I'm trying to decide whether between two courses this fall...Proteins or Human Genetics. I've already taken Genetics. I really enjoyed Biochem, so I thought Proteins would be fun. I'm a postbacc student and just wanted some feedback toward which would be more relevant/advantageous for med school.

I recommend Human Genetics. Knowing chromosomal basis of genetic diseases is important for step 1. Genetic counselling is also important to know.
It sounds like you already took regular Biochem.
"Proteins" sounds like a special course on protein chemistry, this might be specific stuff like crystallography, x-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry; things which are not important for med school. They will probably also discuss protein isolation and expression methods. Again, not as important for med school coursework, but good if you want to do benchtop research.

both courses sound like a waste of time, the protein course sound too advanced for an MD program, unless you are planning on going for a Md,PhD program i think it might be too detailed, my biochem class did not go into that much detail, and as far as genetic , its a small course in med school and if you've already taken it, there's no need to go through the pain even more

yeah, i'd agree with that. both seem like a waste of time if you're looking for a class to help you in med school. take the class you think you'll enjoy...

both are equally useless.

Agreed. Don't take either one of them; instead either do some research, get a job, or get some clinical experience. These would be far, far better uses of your time.

Do whatever you think you will make an A in. That's all that matters. I wish I did biology instead of Biochem for my undergrad. High gpa. It's all in the numbers first man.

depends how closely human genetics correlates w/medical genetics.
my medical genetics was brief intro into modes of inheritence and then in depth look at genetic dz.
if course doesn't go into phenotype of disease and genetic basis (eg which enz is deficient, chom transloation) go w/whichever you like better. once you get to med school you won't be able to choose anything anymore
