View Full Version : ***Official UNECOM Class of 2009!!!***
docbill 10-02-2004, 09:48 AM I wanted to START a UNECOM class of 2009 Thread.
I was accepted in Oct.2004 and withdrew all other COM applications.
UNECOM is my first choice.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL APPLICANTS.
Don't forget UNECOM ROCKS
docbill 10-04-2004, 04:56 AM I am now officialy admitted to UNECOM. YEAHhhhhhh... It will take a while for it to actually sink in. Are there proper celebrating procedures. Is it like awards.
" I would like to thank my mom, my dad, and God, and my brain.... for getting me this far... how far can I really go... "

" I would like to thank my mom, my dad, and God, and my brain.... for getting me this far... how far can I really go... "
Proper celebrating procedures: Gather with friends or family, consume excessive Ethanol and enjoy.
Edit: Oh, and don't worry too much about getting straight A's for the remainder of undergrad.
docbill 10-04-2004, 11:15 AM Thanks will do.
TOo badd I actually have to work hard to finish my grad degree.
Oh well it will be worth it.
BA
docbill 10-04-2004, 02:53 PM I am all alone... no one in here to celebrate with me...
Oh well.. I will have imaginary SDN friends.
docmz 10-05-2004, 10:15 AM ok now that i found the correct thread i too will celebrate with you! have you decided to go to UNECOM?
I am all alone... no one in here to celebrate with me...

docbill 10-05-2004, 10:58 AM Congradulations.
YES MAAM.. sure did.
I just found out.. and I am 95% sure. Unless something goes terribly wrong. Murphey's law.
How about you?
I guess that is a Yes.
I am finally not talking to my self in here.
docmz 10-05-2004, 11:02 AM Yes, I am definately going. This is my second year applying ( I was put on the accept space available list last year) and UNECOM has been my first choice ever since. Now all I need to do is find the deposit...but, that will be done in time. I love the school and CAN NOT WAIT to go!!!!
:)

docbill 10-05-2004, 11:30 AM I agree.. I felt the same way when I went to visit.
The students where great.. and the profs kind too.
But actually it is the Ocean that sold me.. and all the trees. hehehe
Good and healthy non-competitive environment. Where they want everyone to graduate and do well. Students are down to earth... and friendly.
I did not get to see portland.. Unfotunately. I will plan a visit and tour.
BA
UNECOM looks like a nice school, plus the ocean is right there. Could anyone tell me what are the typical living expenses in the area? Thanks :D
jonb12997 10-05-2004, 02:02 PM congrates everyone, cost of living... I pay $600/mnth for a 1 bedroom with heat/hotwater included (I'm married so I don't have any roommates to split the cost with)... home phone runs you about $45 for a basic plan from verizon, don't have time for cable but I think it's about $40 a month, cable internet is like another 30 if you get it with the cable TV, gas is right about 1.90 right now (cheaper than boston, more expensive than some other places). that' being said, it's a great place to live, outside of the busy city (not UHSCOM), but still closer to stuff than being at WVSOM... enjoy your fall!

Thanks for the info... we will be depending on present students to guide our class.
We are UNEVERGs  .. since there are only two of us so far. That will be our new name. (I am guessing everyone can figure out the name).
Unless someone else can come up with something better. That name will PASS.

gioia 10-06-2004, 08:49 PM UNECOM looks like a nice school, plus the ocean is right there.:D
The ocean does have that kind of effect! :D
There is a beautiful hike by UNE that runs along the coast. It's called the East Point Preserve.
CONGRATULATIONS!!
:luck:
bostongirl22 10-06-2004, 09:32 PM Congrats to all those in the new UNECOM class! If you have any questions about clinicals or anything feel free to ask!
I paid $550/month for a one bedroom apt. and lived there for both of my 1st two years. that include heat, electricity, hot water, and cable! Not bad...and less than 2 miles from school.
Good luck to you all and congrats!

docbill 10-07-2004, 04:40 AM Hi Guys... Thanks for information.

No Problem!! If you have any Q's, there are a few us always looking to chat w/ UNErs and UNECOM hopefuls :) on SDN. It really helps to have feedback - I know it helped me!
FYI: UNE's White Coat Ceremony is a bit later than some: we have ours tonight. The Dean told us that receiving our white coats would be more meaningful after we have 'cut our teeth' and survived the first few rounds of exams. It's true. Now that we have a little taste of what we prepared for (college, MCAT, apps.) and what it's like to be 'on the other side', the white coat reception is much more meaningful.
You picked a good school!!
Take care...
:luck:

BTW.. I just withdrew my application to AZCOM and KCOM... still to come NSUCOM and others.
ANyone else out there with new letters of acceptance. I got my official letter in the mail today (before that I knew by email).

PublicEnemy 10-07-2004, 12:13 PM UNE, unless I hear from my state school. I only applied to 4 schools.
Loved it up there though, so nice. great facilities, building, incredible OMM lab, anatomy is great there.
UNE2009LMD 10-07-2004, 09:18 PM :) WOO HOO! First, I want to congratulate all those accepted to UNECOM's class of 2009!!! Also, I'd like to give moral support for those awaiting the interview. You'll do fine!!!!! This is definitely my top choice and I've decided to withdraw a couple of apps..like I know I don't want to be in the west coast...too far! At first, I was vying for PCOM but I haven't heard a darn freakin' thing from them!!!
I interviewed at UNECOM 2 wks ago and fell in love w/ the campus and people! The campus is GORGEOUS and the students are so friendly. It's definitely a caring/supportive environment and residency obtainments are top notch!!! I cannot wait to go to orientation to meet all of you fellow UNECOM 2009ers! awww yeah! :)
LOVE LIFE. LIVE LOVE. UNECOM c/0 2009.
Future MS-1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
docmz 10-08-2004, 08:32 AM thanks so much for all the great information!! i get so excited reading these posts!! have a great time at the white coat ceremony and perhaps we should tell YOU congratulations!!

Hey JonB,
You forgot Live Anatomy on Wednesday and the memorization of OPP techniques!!! :) :) Quick: Show me the Pica Semilunaris and Cricoid Membrane.... :D
DocBill: As much as I love UNE, I must point out the statistics: UNECOM has one of the smallest 2008 Class Threads represented on SDN. This does not mean UNECOM students are introverts, exactly- there are, most likely, other prefered methods of communication among students. But it does mean you might be the 2009 SDN class thread 'keeper'. ;)
:luck:
premyo2002 10-09-2004, 08:29 AM I also got into UNE!! So far it looks like I will be attending, but I still have quite a few interviews left. I'm not sure any school can impress me the way UNE did, but I would feel cheated if I didn't at least see my other options.
DOCbill, Im sure there are others like me, who have been accepted and are not sure if they will matriculate, so they are not responding in this thread..
To play along, Im finishing my undergrad in southern california
jonb12997 10-09-2004, 09:01 AM You forgot Live Anatomy on Wednesday and the memorization of OPP techniques!!! :) :) Quick: Show me the Pica Semilunaris and Cricoid Membrane.... :D
OH man, I forgot about live anatomy... anyway, we also use email to communicate quite a bit... plus we're in class together a lot, and Joe (our class president) does a good job at communicating with us with announcements right before class... who knows if your class will be different though, I guess it all depends on your leadership...
docbill 10-09-2004, 08:55 PM Hey guys... how does it feel to have your white coats. Thanks for the info, I know you guys have lots of participation in class and in your building. That is one of the cool things about UNECOM. I especially like the pictures of everyone posted on the wall, incase you forget the names. hehehe.
I know it is slow on here now.. but there is still over 9 month left before class starts.
Most people have decisions to make.. always go with your gut feeling. I don't mind if you are undecided. At least we get to make some new friends. YOu know future DOs knowing each others.
I am really happy I got UNECOM.
BTW.. did anyone else catch nip tuck last night... Wierd $hit.
BTW2... the family guy is coming back... yeahhhhhhhhh.
BTW3... I won't have time to watch it for the next 4 years... but I will get the DVD.
DocBill-your post is too long. Please paraphrase. Just kidding. Congrats on your UNECOM acceptance :D
PublicEnemy 10-09-2004, 10:28 PM yeah i'm really excited about my UNECOM acceptance as well.
i had serious reservations about whether i was going to get in anywhere, and its such a relief to get in so early and at such a great school. i'm surprised i was able to turn everything around so quickly.
Things that really impressed me:
1. hands down the best secondary application - completely online, no errors, no glitches.
2. friendly staff with Lisa and James
3. completely stress-free interview
4. beautiful facilities, nice building
5. awesome OMM lab
6. exceptional anatomy program
7. beautiful campus, with undergraduate facilities
8. saco river/atlantic ocean/beaches
9. quick, quick turnaround times
10. friendliest, happiest students
i don't know about everyone else, but i definitely catch myself completely getting psyched at random times during the day saying out loud, i'm going to be a doctor. hard to believe, still hasn't sunken in. love it.
oh, i'm from nj.
docbill 10-10-2004, 07:53 AM Publicenemy #1... I agree with youu... point 0-10...
Yeahhhhh I can actually ask people now if they "want to play student doctor" ;)
UNE2009LMD 10-10-2004, 09:25 PM Yeah, I, too, have random bouts of excitement..suddenly realizing I'm going to be a physician. :) Last Fri, a couple of my friends held a celebration for me and when some asked, "What kind of medicine do you wanna enter?" , did it finally hit me! I'm still in grad school..1 yr left so now it's about relaxing, doing well still, but not stressing out so much! Yay! :) :)
docmz 10-11-2004, 07:20 AM hello hello...just thought i would post my stats too.
i am working at the institute for cardiovascular research (part of suny upstate medical university) in syracuse, ny. i just finished my undergrad at St. Lawrence University in May and have been working here ever since. Knowing that I will be headed to Maine next summer makes me really antsy for this year to flyyyyyy by.
ciao!
docbill 10-11-2004, 08:45 AM Wow so many of us with research experience. I also do Cardiovascular research... well to be more specific Cardiac Therapy. I will finish what I can over the next 9 month but completely finished, I dought that. We can eventually run the new research center they want to build.. hehehe.
I heard it is getting kind of chilly there right about now. Yuks... it is getting chilly in Toronto as well. I don't think I am ready for that yet.
This will be my first year with lost pounds... little meat to warm me up.
jmarra03 10-11-2004, 04:02 PM Hi All
Welcome to the UNECOM community! I am so excited to meet you all. My name is Janelle and I am a first year this year. I remember posting on the class of 2008 board! Best of luck to you all and please feel free to email me with any questions at jmarra@pipeline.une.edu. Good luck and Relax!
Janelle
Sweet J 10-11-2004, 04:44 PM hey everyone ...
just wanted to congratulate you all on getting into UNE and making the wise decision to come here :-) it's a fantastic program and i love it here. enjoy your free time before you get out here and if you have any questions, shout any of us MS1s a holler. (i'm a california girl, so if anyone has concerns/doubts about moving to maine from out of state, feel free to pick my brain!)
input on rent: i live with two other MS1s and together we pay $975 a month, with ALL utilities included for a fantastic 3 bedroom place in biddeford. my $325 share is about 1/2 of what i used to pay to share a room out west, so needless to say, i'm thrilled with the housing out here.
back to the books ...
docmz 10-12-2004, 07:21 AM so, now that my next four years have been decided and i'm headed to UNE, i'm starting to feel pitty for all of the poor souls out there waiting for mcat scores from august. i too took the mcat in august, and yes am interested to see what i got (not that it really matters), but some of the posts sound like they are going to die! sorry, just found it kinda funny. anyway, it is freakin' cold in syracuse today...almost time to break out the hat. last night we started a fire...brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
docbill 10-12-2004, 07:35 AM POOORRR MCATERSSS.. I know a few people that lost their nails already.
Yeah it is chilly now. 2 Layers for sure. We had 4'C this morning... = x9/5 +32 for F, or something like that lets just say ~42F. I hope we don't get any snow till after Halloween.
Thanks Jamarra and Sweet J for the help. I am sure that our questions will become more and more detailed as time gets closer. Now if I can only find the 500$ for deposit.
Stable, asystole 10-13-2004, 06:03 AM Congrats to everyone going to UNECOM nexy year. I am a UNECOM MSIII currently in Watertown, NY doing my rotations. Any one who was any questions let me know and I would be happy to see if I can fill you in. my email is tiggersbounceandpiglet@yahoo.com. I truely feel you will get an excellent education and the area is a great place to be. and to everyone accepted to any school congrats on the commitment and good luck in your first year.
docbill 10-14-2004, 04:49 AM Thanks Stable,asystole... How are rotation going?
I guess it is really different then taking classes.
BTW.. ANY NEW TAKERS.
When are you guys submitting your 500$ deposit?
docmz 10-14-2004, 08:55 AM i am going to wait until late november to send it in..mostly because 60 days after they receive the 500 they want 1000 more...so the later i wait...the later the 1000 is due. :)
Thanks Stable,asystole... How are rotation going?
I guess it is really different then taking classes.

When are you guys submitting your 500$ deposit?
docmz 10-14-2004, 08:57 AM just a quick question for the MSIII. I grew up in Watertown, NY and never imagined a possible rotation site to be there! Anyway, how do you like it? Would you recommend it? Also, I know Watertown can be a little drab so have you ever been out to Sackets Harbor? It isn't far...maybe 20 mins. and there is a great place to eat there called Good Fellows.
Take care!

PublicEnemy 10-14-2004, 11:38 PM hey what are you guys interested in doing? are you guys drawn to any particular specialty?
i know its quite early, but when's a good time to start thinking about places to live?
docbill 10-16-2004, 04:45 AM I want to be all I can be..
PublicEnemy#5, I don't know if you where asking new students or people already in.
I am going to be a Clinician Scientist. What specialty.. I don't know yet, it all depends on rounds. Since most of my training is on Cardiology and Cardiovascular science... I don't know if I will drift far away from that.. but then again.. ENT can take my breath away.. hehehe.
BA
Stable, asystole 10-17-2004, 02:18 PM Watertown is a great site for rotations. The Med ed dept really works to get us lots of interesting speakers. They bend over backwards to make us comfortable, and I feel like we are treated like first year residents not 3rd year medical students. We get a lot of face time with the attendings who are mostly very interested in teaching and are good at it. I will have plenty of experiance to bring with me when I am doing my audition rotations at my residency choices.
docbill 10-18-2004, 04:29 PM From what I learned from my student host.. when I interviewed.. and many of his friends. Lots of students attending UNECOM live on the street next to the University. The area is called Biddford pool. It is a mile or so road (hill street, I think)... same one the university is on. The only downside of this is that some places are summer rentals, so you can't move in till end of summer and have to move out.
There is also listings on the UNE website for housing.
I will, hopefully, be sharring a two bedroom house or Cabin or whatever you call them with someone. Unless I don't find anyone that is as clean as me.
Rent varies.. see the UNE website listings. I am sure someone will find it and post it.. I am too lazy right now.. hehehe.
BA
Ask and ye shall receive...Below is the link to the UNE website for housing.

docbill 10-19-2004, 09:54 PM Thanks man.
BTW I am so looking forward to starting at the end of July. I am so glad that I canceled my other interviews. UNE is my first choice and I am so lucky to have it. I am going to frame the acceptance letter.
Even though I am going to be freezing in the winters.. either in Toronto or Maine, I am actually looking forward to it. Ocean and Snow... wow, that is going to be crazy.
It is going to be a bit difficult of course, moving south.. have to get papers done and get private loans.. all that stuff. But I am so going to love it. :D
jonb12997 10-20-2004, 05:49 AM coming south is going to be like coming to a tropical paradise!! it's SOOOO warm down here right now ;)
docbill 10-22-2004, 04:29 AM Thanks Jon, I think it is actually going North East. Since Toronto is Close to Buffalo NY... Yukss... that means it is going to be a reverse.. I am leaving from tropical paradice... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
That is okay.. I will survive.
PublicEnemy 10-22-2004, 01:32 PM i like toronto. i was there last month visiting family friends in mississauga. very nice area. i think you'll be just fine moving to the shore.
docbill 10-22-2004, 01:34 PM thanks... I don't love toronto.. I prefer Vancouver and Montreal... that is where the life is interesting
docbill 10-22-2004, 01:39 PM BTW... for all of the applicants reading the interview threads for UNECOM. You will notice that someone post 2 bad reviews in a row.
That seems cheap I will tell you why.
Don't post too in a row cause it will make the school look worst.
Also it is best to post right after your interview and not wait for one month.
You evaluation can be terrible bias after you get an acceptance or refusal letter.
For example I am pro-UNE... so I will defend it... but you can also ask others like NATE and MEDICK that interviewed there. They will tell you a non-bias opinion since they are going to MSU and NJ.
Also.. the point about one of the interviewers.. talking about themself.. that is great... use that... see what they are interested in and ask them questions.. the goal is for them to get comfortable with you.. A physician will have to listen to others... and their complaints.
PublicEnemy 10-22-2004, 01:40 PM thanks... I don't love toronto.. I prefer Vancouver and Montreal... that is where the life is interesting
oh really? yeah i've never really been to either of those. i've been to toronto a few times and i went to windsor a couple times when i was visiting my friend in detroit.
docbill 10-22-2004, 01:46 PM I promise if you go to UNECOM... we will get a whole bunch of people together and go up to Montreal or Quebec City.. 6 hours drive. You will love it... They are the best most active cities in Canada... full of life.. not to mention Quebec ladies are beautiful.
jonb12997 10-22-2004, 02:32 PM I went up to montreal for my bachelor party... THAT was fun
ooo can I come?!

Nate, you can come on one condition. If you ratify the treaty between UNE and NJ class of 2009 as sister/brotherly schools.
BTW, while you drive up can you pick up some snacks. And you have to behave yourself in Montreal. Okay.. you know what.. scrap the last rule. You are have kids.. you should be allowed to let party sometimes. hehehe :meanie:
Anyone else want to come?
docbill 10-22-2004, 05:23 PM Man if it was not for a few that post on here.. I would call this docbill's monologues.
I can't wait till more UNEvergs come.
DocBill:
Better enjoy your last year up where the air is refreshing, because when you come down hear, you may melt!!

Docbill,
We should change your avatar to an Olympian and your name to torch-bearer! :) :) :)
I haven't been elected to represent my class at UMDNJ, but UNE is definitely okay in my book. I only wish I could clone myself and go to both UNE and UMDNJ because I really loved both schools so much. It would be the rich half, of course, that would go to UNE that tuition is just way up there. What kinds of snacks should I bring? Real beer of course because that piss you guys can up there is not going to cut it.

UNE2009LMD 10-26-2004, 08:49 PM you can say that again. the tuition for UNECOM is up there..55K per yr and increasing. ahh. But hey, I'll deal w/ the debt... :) :)

WWWHHHHAAATTTT????????
I think 55K is what one can borrow. Our current tuition is 32K.

Nate you have it backwards... Canadian beer is good beer. We are not afraid to put the %EtOH content right on the bottle. Plus we have 5.5% all the way up to 10% beer. We don't need to water it down.
UNE tuition is in line with Private schools. Not the sheapest. I can't afford it. But so is life.

gioia 10-27-2004, 09:40 PM whats the deal with the ears?
We practice our diagnostic skills on each other and it just so happens that some people (i.e. MCANDY) are becoming doctors to overcome their fear of them: I could graze his Darwin's Tubercle and he would tell you that I perforated his tympanic membrane!
May I look in your ears?? :meanie: :meanie: :meanie:
Gioia:
I see what they mean that they mean that practical skills are earful.

docbill 10-28-2004, 05:38 AM Perforated ear drumb does hurt... or so I hear.. hehehe.
Did you grab MCandy's ear and pull outwards. THat is what I get at the doctors office. I guess he does that to avoid perforating.. or just cause he enjoys pulling ears.

Oh, of course! UNECOM trains the best!
If you were to press MCANDY on the issue, he would likely say that I blinded him with the opthalmoscope, as well. In fact, last week someone tried to puncture his liver during the respiratory unit.... Oh wait, could this be a trend???
I'll get back with you on MCANDY's pain plot: Now I have to go to classes incognito - where's my halloween costume?? :D

mcandy 10-28-2004, 08:52 AM what....I cant hear you...Gioia took a core sample from from ear drum like she was studying the greenhouse effect on glaciers in the arctic.
gioia 10-28-2004, 09:10 AM I was recently accepted to UNECOM. Does the school assist students with finding roommates?
COMSA has a housing division where they list rentals that become available and a helps students in their search: comsa@une.edu
:luck:
brody17 10-28-2004, 10:02 AM Thanks! I saw the list of rentals but I was curious is the school helped with roommates. I do not know anyone in the Class of 2009 (yet).
brody17 10-28-2004, 10:18 AM What is everyone's plan for housing in the Fall 2005? Would anyone be interested in starting a roommate match?
Any input from current UNE students would be great! Where is the best place? the safest place? best deals?
Thanks!
docbill 10-28-2004, 10:22 AM Congrads on being accepted.
YOu will meet more people soon enough... I recall last year some people got together through here and may have ended up bieng roomates.

docbill 10-31-2004, 09:16 AM Hi everyone.. I was just reading roomate thread... it can go both ways... one can either get a good roomy or a not so good roomy. I plan to get a roomate... as long as it is someone that is normal.. clean and works hard, I will be fine. But than again.. who knows.

just so you don't feel lonely i will post. but, in the spirit of a post, i might as well include somethign good.
The Truest Red Sox Fan
Roger Clemens, after living a full life, died.
When he got to heaven, God was showing him around.
They came to a modest little house with a faded
Yankee flag in the window. "This house is yours
for eternity," God said. "This is very special,
not everyone gets a house up here."
Roger felt special, indeed, and walked into his house.
On his way up to the porch he noticed another house
just around the corner. It was a three-story
mansion with a bright red and blue sidewalk,
a 50 foot flagpole with a Red Sox flag flying on it,
and a Red Sox logo in every window. In the front yard
was a sign reading 'Welcome To Beantown.'
Clemens looked at God and said,
"I don't mean to be ungrateful, but I have a question.
I won three World Series rings, more awards than I can remember,
and I won more than 300 games."
God answered, "So what do you want to know, Roger?"
"Well, why does Pedro Martinez get a better house than me?"
God chuckled and said, "Roger, that's not Pedro's house...
its mine."
I will not let you sink dam it

docbill 11-08-2004, 06:23 AM Hi All,
I did not run away.. don't worry... I am away at a conference.. and not much time or access to internet... But I am glad to see the activity going on.
BA
docmz 11-08-2004, 02:28 PM ok, so i have a question related to none of the above. i'm sure i will figure this out soon enough, but how does the whole reimbursement check (aka living on loans) thing work. is it every month, or no? and also, what do most have to take out? is it enough to survive or should you have extra mooola to fall back on. if you don't want to answer i understand but it would help alot!
thank you!
Hey kiddos-
Congratulations!
I'm a 2007er who will be leaving the Biddo. for years 3&4.
I am selling a house in town. It's an 1895,1700sq. ft. 3BR 1.75 bath. Fenced yard with deck. Hardwood floors throughout with a tin ceiling in the dining room. Four miles from campus and 4.5 miles from beaches in both directions.
Quiet street, one block from grocery.
We will be officially putting it on the market around the first of the year. I just wanted to give y'all an early heads up.
PM me with questions if ya want.
That means questions about the house, school, my astrological sign, my feelings about the election, surfing in Maine, the best oysters around, osteopathy, the best way to cook alfredo, dalmations..........
NMH2001 11-08-2004, 03:10 PM Hey docmz-
Your post caught my eye-I am also from Syracuse!
Congrats on the acceptance to UNE, and let me know if I can be a help when you make the transition to moving to the great old state of Maine!
And to help with your question about the moolah-You get your loan checks once at the end of July and then again at the end of Dec. Basically, just tally up what you think your living expenses will be for July-Dec, and make sure you have the dough to cover it. I wouldn't worry about taking out too much, if you do then just take out less for the spring semester. And yes, cost of living is much higher here than in the 'Cuse.
:D
docmz 11-09-2004, 07:19 AM hi there :)
good to here there is a fellow syracuseonian here! i'm sure you will be a ton of help when i finally move up to maine. do most people live on there own or are roomates common? how early should i start looking for an apartment etc? oh yes, and just so you know, we have a good inch or so of snow here! ho ho ho!
:)
thanks for the info!

NMH2001 11-10-2004, 12:41 PM As far as housing goes-many people rent homes along Hills Beach Road that are actually summer rentals that are not used in the winter. The pro to this is that you can spilt the cost of rent with a few people, don't really have to worry about much furniture and stuff, and literally live right down the street from school. A downside is that the homes are rented during the summer so you have to find your own housing usually from Memorial day-->Labor day. Lots of people have apartments in the Biddeford and Saco area, some have roomates, some do not. And then there's a few of us who live up in Portland-not really bad, only about a 35 min drive but then when you want to get out and see what's going on in town it's literally right at your doorstep. I personally like it because I feel that at the end of the day I have a good separation between home & school. Keeps me sane!
I started looking for apratments around January. It was a little early though. I would recommend probably March-April. The reason that we started so early was that my fiance (now husband) was looking for a new job in the area and did not know when he would be relocating to start.
Definately go on the UNE housing website (not sure of the exact link, but look around and you will find it). Also check out mainetoday.com for the classifieds, and mainerentalguide.com (the best so far-that's how we found our townhouse.)
Well that was long winded but I hope it gives you a little help in getting started. Any questions let me know- (Oh, and there's no such thing as lake effect snow up here!!!!!)

docbill 11-11-2004, 07:21 PM Hi Everyone.
How is everyone doing? Are we still looking forward till July 27th. I think I counted 8.5 month left. That is going to be so cool.
Also, I had a question... did I imagine this, or did I read somewhere that UNE will build a new residence on campus. If so will they allow Med Students to live in there...or is it just to meet the undergrad pop'n.
Also I have another question. Is it possible to live in Biddford/attend UNE and not have a car? I don't have one, sold it when I moved to the city, and don't wish/can't afford one. Is that going to be a huge problem. I am guess YES.
Anyone, having a car, looking for a roomate, hehehehe?
Okay.. must procrasinate some more on SDN.
BA
DocBill:
You are going to need a car. Some of your preceptorships will be away from the campus and require a vehicle to get to them. Sorry :(
Wook
jonb12997 11-12-2004, 06:33 AM I second that... you'll definetly need a car
brody17 11-12-2004, 07:31 AM What kind of cars do UNECOM students drive? Can you get away without 4-wheel drive?
Thanks!
docmz 11-12-2004, 07:39 AM can you get away without 4-wheel drive? well, let me put it this way. i don't live in maine now, but i do live in northern new york...where we receive snow by the truck load. i've never had a 4-wheel drive vehicle..however, i have always had studded tires...as well as a shovel in my trunk. haha. i guess it all depends how adventurous you want to be. anyways, 4-wheel drive doesn't help you drive better in the snow...it just helps you get out when you stuck. on the topic of cars...is it possible to make a cheap car payment while in school?
What kind of cars do UNECOM students drive? Can you get away without 4-wheel drive?
Thanks!
jonb12997 11-12-2004, 07:51 AM I'd say 4 wheel drive doesn't really help you... I grew up in the mountains in WAY northern New York (so I know how to drive on snow), just get snow tires (and tires to switch out in the spring b/c they'll KILL your gas mileage, plus they sound aweful in the middle of the summer), and no tiny tiny cars (get a toyota corolla size or bigger)...
brody17 11-12-2004, 08:28 AM Great info...I am looking to get a more dependable car (like a corolla) but I am worried about making a payment during school...any suggestions?
docbill 11-13-2004, 08:09 AM yeaksssssssss... I must have a car... that will be difficult. I did not budget for that.. nor am I looking forward to having insurance payments. What is insurance like in Maine?
jonb12997 11-13-2004, 08:34 AM for my wife and I for our 97 chevy lumina (no collision, but with comprehensive), it's about $100/month from state farm
NMH2001 11-14-2004, 05:31 PM You may want to buy the car before you move to Maine and keep it registered and insured where you are now instead (Just keep your legal address from your home state if you can-i.e.your parents house or something). I did this because first, believe it or not New York insurance (where I am from ) is cheaper than Maine, and second if you register a car in Maine you have to pay a yearly, rediculous excise tax which is based upon the year and worth of your vehicle.
So my cost would have been $325 for the tax, $25 to register the car, $25 (I think) for a Maine license, plus about $40 more per month for Maine insurance. I don't think so!!!! I kept my legal address and insurance in NY and saved some cash that way!
docbill 11-14-2004, 05:36 PM Thanks for the info JonB and NMH2001... I don't think I can keep it registered in my home state/Province.. cause I would be coming from Canada. I will have to double check that. But it would be much easier if not cheaper to have my car registered in Qeubec and drive back every 2 month... (which is something I will do anyway).
docmz 11-16-2004, 08:32 AM so where exactly is WAY northern new york. i grew up in watertown, currently work in syracuse, and went to school in canton, ny. any thing familiar?
:)

jonb12997 11-16-2004, 09:50 AM you can only get about 1 hour farther north before you hit the canadian border... I grew up in Wilmington (right near Lake Placid) up in the mountains. Syracuse is pretty familar... that's where my dad grew up so we go visit my grandparents (and have to drive through watertown)... (btw, the hospital in watertown is one of our rotations sites)...
oceandoc 11-18-2004, 08:45 PM There is an MS2 at UNECOM from Ontario who hasn't changed the registration of his car. We are quite used to canadian plates here in maine, especially ones from quebec.

docbill 11-18-2004, 09:28 PM Thanks for the info... Quebec is a nice province.. lots of people from there go to maine for the nature and camping. Who is this 2nd year student? is he the student president for 2nd year... if yes.. can you tell him I am still waiting for his responce. If not than tell him I want to ask him question about VISA/LOANS etc...
Thanks

When is the deadline ... the 15th of December right?
I don't want to send my deposit in till the latest... that way the 1000$ deposit won't be due till 60day after.. 15th of Feb. Hmmmm now where to find the money... anyone have some left over change.. hehehe
xterratri 11-23-2004, 11:33 AM Like my classmate, I kept me car registered in NY. Neither of us are from NYC, so our insurance is reasonable. I pay $400 every 6 months for a 2004 with maximum coverage. I don't advovate 4-wheel drive but I'm from a lake effect snow area so I pretty much am not concerned about ME winters. A car is a must though.
docmz 11-23-2004, 12:06 PM aren't i an over achiever. :p

bluesunlily 11-24-2004, 05:00 PM wow, it's amazing to see that next year's class is already coming together. can't wait to have you guys (and to be done with my first year!)
welcome.

docbill 11-24-2004, 06:56 PM Yes.. that is true... it is nice to have the class filling up. There are a few more accepted in the last couple of days.
Bluesunlily... did I meet you when I was interviewing at UNE. You are the one that went to Johns Hopkins and the ones that likes chefs right? hehehe
docbill 11-27-2004, 10:29 AM There... my deposit is sentttttttttttttttttttttttt. NOW count down for the 1k$ drop.
Does this 500$ get credited to our first year tuition.. or just the 1000$ in 60 days.
jonb12997 11-27-2004, 12:47 PM they both count towards first semester...
docbill 11-27-2004, 01:10 PM Thanks.. jonb.
Did you guys get your first snow fall (about 2 or 3 weeks right) when MA got it?
jonb12997 11-27-2004, 01:46 PM we got a light dusting... no real accumulation yet though
docbill 11-28-2004, 12:29 PM that is good to know... the snow should be lighter this year.. so they say.
McCandy asked me if I am looking forward to starting next year and to enjoy life while it last cause this will change with the 12 exams in 3 weeks that they are enjoying now.
So I though I would post this in here... just to keep this thread alive and to see if anyone else feels the same.
MY ANSWER:
AM I looking forward to it? YESSSS FOR SURE.
AM I CONFIDENT THAT IT WILL GO WELL? hmmmm not so much.
I fear the amount of memorization needed for the first two years. #1 I am left handed, some will know about this factor. #2 Being a PhD student right now... I don't have any exams... just research and journal reviews and writing etc...
I have not had a full semester of courses since 2000. SO I AM CONCERNED. Even had a dream about it last night... funking crazy.
As long as I get through first semester. AKA ANATOMY (Aug till Dec), With a simple pass... that would be good enough for me. Or the first year for that matter is perfectly acceptable for me.
The second year should be much easier since I have a organ system experience (Cardio/ Pneumo/ Hemato/ Pharm). But the good stuff will begin in year 3 and 4.
Regarding not having a life... well I don't have much of a life right now... Weekends I am at work anyway... and I stay late most of the weekdays. Med school will be more satisfying since I will be learning and working towards what I really want to do. Patient interaction.. mice are just not as fun.

That is all for now.
jonb12997 11-28-2004, 03:23 PM AKA ANATOMY (Aug till Dec), With a simple pass...

December 10th can't come fast enough  hope everyone had a great thanksgiving!
tigger0821 12-01-2004, 09:40 AM hi,
first off thank for starting this thread I was looking for 20 minutes for a UNECOM forum 2009.
This was my top choice after I saw the schhol. near the ocean tny class size. and all that god stuff. but i have no idea how to go about housing? I heard a lot of students rent out beach houses with 3 other peple whow do I do that? if its hard to do what other ways can i go.
also i only took the basic requirements for med school. and taking more classes will cost a fortune. is anyone doing extra work to prepare for the tough road ahead like reading text books. memorizinf anatomy material?
and last what was the average time of reply if you got in or not. also did any one else get a letter that said we re missing your secondary application right after they interviewed. and then got a letter of acceptance :-) i was freakn out. it was nuts but all good now.
please get back to me on housing anyone
yay 2009 class :-)
tigger0821 12-01-2004, 09:45 AM What is everyone's plan for housing in the Fall 2005? Would anyone be interested in starting a roommate match?

yeah i want to know too please....where do we go?
mcandy 12-01-2004, 10:26 AM Hey Tigger and DocBill,
As far as the classes go...I was an engineer by schooling the first time around. I graduated in 1995 too, so it has been awhile. I only took the minimum prereqs to get in and everything has been fine. I am actually doing very well in all of my classes without any studying ahead of time or extra classes. Everything you need to know you will get here. Absolutely nothing is hard except the volume and time committed in order to learn everything. I know this is an abused statement around here, but go enjoy yourself. I blew off life for a while before coming here and I am glad I did (I wish I had tried harder at blowing off life before coming to be honest). There is plenty of time to learn everything and you will spend all of your time...evenings, mornings, weekends, friday nights studying. Make sure you file your FAFSA, fill out your orientation packet stuff in june, find a place to live, and have much fun...at least do it for me..cause I am suffering right now...please santa Dec 10th.
Housing...I met my roomie here on SDN. I have a year round place in biddeford pool...It is cheap (460/mo)and I can see the ocean out my windows. I can run on a 2 mile long sand beach out my front door. Alot of folks live on Hills Beach (just passed school). Both the pool and hills have a lot of stuff that is off season only...but there are places that are year round too. Some folks live in Biddo...not as nice, but cheaper and all year round. Saco, same deal. Some folks live in Portland...30 min drive. I would say that unless you have a spouse/SO that needs to be in the "city" or you yourself must have city environment, then the lost hour of driving is not worth it.
The admissions folks will send you a housing survey and post something on line to help you guys meet and find places. That is a good resource, but wouldn't expect it until may. 1st Maine real estate in Hills beach/biddeford pool is a good place to start...a bunch of folks rent from them. I would not stress out housing too much, I got my place in June with next to no efffort. There are still listings on the board at school on a regular basis, so not anything to sweat, especially now. OK must stop procrastinating and study grossest histobioimmuno...my favorite class. :p

Thanks McCandy for re-assuring me and others that it will be okay.
Oh yeah Santi is coming.. I almost forgot... it is the 1st of dec... I better start getting ready.
BTW.. I decided not to have a tree this year. I found out it takes 13 years for one tree. I don't know if there is something wrong with that. 13 years for 3-5 weeks worth of pleasure for us. Maybe I will get a small one. Those germans and their great ideas. You know they are the ones that introduced the chrismx trees.

tigger0821 12-02-2004, 01:15 AM hi,
thanks mcandy for the info....
anyway I want to get a had start on the material to calm my nerves. and just for fun too. im bored. is there anyway i can get those notes that the students write up from the taped lectures? i think they are called co op right?
well anway i was told there was a online version, can i get access to it. or even better the paper version?
thanks
Hey Tigger!
If I am understanding your question, you are looking for the noteservice notes. As far as I know, they are usually not available since the students pay for the service.

docbill 12-02-2004, 05:34 AM I guess you did not really get McCandy's post..
SHE SAID TO ENJOY LIFE WHILE YOU CAN!
Hey whatever floats your boat.
mcandy 12-02-2004, 07:05 AM Hey Tigger, if you are that ambitious, get a copy of Moore and Daly's Clinically oriented anatomy. Start with upper limb and chest. Go to town on proximal and distal attachments, innervation, action, agonists, antagonists. Getting the blue boxes down is important for Dr Cross's portion of the course too (upper and lower limb). Ah yes, nail that brachial plexus too! Dr cross will call some unlucky folks up to the board to draw that out. Know it from the chord to the finger tips. Trace all the blood...arterial and venous patterns and pay particular attention to the anastamoses' with clinical importance..ie where to clamp when some one is bleeding profusely in order to override the "backup" blood source. When you get that down move into lower limb and deep back and gait, repeat and then move on to head and neck (actually skip H+N-don't even try that on your own...the ptreygopalantine ganglion will make you want a gun and postmans uniform). Be sure to memorize every boney land mark...ie every little bump and groove name where a muscle attaches, all the hand bones, foot bones, tendons, retinaculums and their contents. I am probably missing some stuff too. You could also get a copy of Wheater's Histology and go to town on that. Start with epithelea, then CT, nervous tissue, cardiovascualr etc. Just memorize it all, especially the pictures as they are fairly similar to waht you need to know for lab exams. Moore and daly does our embryo (I think it is clinicall oriented title too) book too. You could grab that and get on spermatogenesis, oogenesis, male and female repro, and then trace fertilization through birth following devo of heart, lungs, perenium, gi, urinary, pharyngeal arches.
Or, you could relax and have fun, becuase the previous paragraph represents your life for a long time. Your call. I also think you will have to put a lot of time in to match the learnig you will do here with your new friends, under pressure, and with resources. Not worth it in my book. Any way congrats on your acdceptance. You will love it here...except nov and december...and that head and neck exam. Delayed gratification. Where is the fat bearded guy who promised dec 10th.
Oh yeah, I am a man, man.  Andy
jonb12997 12-02-2004, 07:16 AM andy, is that all we really did this semester? no wonder I thought this semester (especially head and neck) was so easy! ;) :)
mcandy 12-02-2004, 07:32 AM yeah, of course piece of cake, can of corn, Good thing there was no work involved in FOD or OMM either. I couldnt give Tigger the sum up of TAPP either cuz I am still thrashing through it myself.
I think Jon B will back me up on this...Dr Willard is the man! (Dr Cross and Koester too, but especialy willard) You all dont understand how fortunate you are to be under his wing for a few years. Biochem time.

my bad.. sorry..
docmz 12-02-2004, 08:58 AM not that i'm going to be looking at them now, but do they post a list of books for the MSI that non-matriculated students can see. i'm at upstate medical university and there are oodles of postings for books that first year students are selling...just thought i might save a buck or two. :)
anyway, docbill, since i can call you bill now...i think its only fair for you to call me michelle.
jonb12997 12-02-2004, 12:31 PM here's out list of books that we got sent to us... Please do not buy any books yet because the list will probably change. Our class will put together a list of books we found useful and ones we didn't for each class... you'll get it plenty of time before school starts to get on amazon and such... Plus there were a bunch of MSII's, III's, and IV's that were around trying to get rid of books at the beginning of the year.
docmz 12-03-2004, 11:24 AM muchos gracias!
but, i'm not going to lie, that list looks a wee bit intimidating! haha..thanks again!

mcandy 12-04-2004, 07:15 AM :luck: wait until the night before your first cycle of exams to feel intimidated. or when you meet the skinny guy.
Like jonB said...wait until you get our eval of books because a lot of our profs recommend things we never used or dont reccomend things we find very useful. However, I can tell you with all certainty that you will need Moore and Daly's Clinically oriented Anatomy, Netters guide to human anatomy, and Rohens picture atlas of human anat. When you get those three books memorized you get to go home for xmas (and you will have them memorized  ).
docbill 12-05-2004, 09:02 AM Hi all. I got in! I like UNECOM a lot. I'm still waiting to hear from one more school, but I am thinking about housing for next year. It's good to see this thread up.

thanks for the helpgys. im gonna get those anatomy books. but when i went to unecom they mentioned here are old copies from the previous year on line or something. is there any way for a matriculated student to get access to them to prepare? id be happy to purchase of course. or buy straight from a student. because i cant just read all those text books id be lost.
also is there any syllabus' or powerpoint presentations from classes that can be downloaded for matriculated studens or do we have to be already attending lectures (MSI)
thanks for all the help you guys

as much as you want to work on reading class notes early or whatever... you're not going to get anything valuable out of it that's going to stick with you next year. (and the lectures will probably be a little different)... If you really have to have something to do, get the Anatomy Text book, I guarentee you're going to use it, and start memorizing the muscles of the arm along with the attachments, innervations, and make sure you know them in cross section also. (they have good tables in the book)... Basically, you're not going to be able to learn enough now that it's going to help you next fall...just relax (in the words of skinny man) and enjoy your time off... you're going to be studying medicine for the rest of your life... enjoy your freedom now
As far as all the powerpoints and syllabii, to get access to those, you have to be actually in the class at the time to get access to the webct site... :)

Come on guys, the school has to pay for my anatomy tutor somehow...   ;)
PublicEnemy 12-07-2004, 09:58 AM yeah, though 500 is a lot more than the 100 some places ask for. not asking for the whole 1500 up front is kinda nice. for me 60 more days will be plenty of time, maybe not to gracioualy give up another 1k, but at least to know my entire app situation and be set on where im going next year. haha, im desperately trying to see the positive in this situation. i loved unecom, but i have my interview at my state school this friday, and supposedly they'll tell me monday.
i have the check signed and sealed in an envelope with a stamp on it, but im waiting a couple more days.
its impossible for me to worry though. im so unbelievably not stressed about my other interview or any decisions. im already in at such a great school. you guys all seem cool.

Thanks Jonb... you must be relieved. BTW is there a special table that is better than all the rest.. that I should be aiming for next Aug. One with a nice view ... closest to exit etc.. eheheheh.
Also anyone who knows... last year you guys got your UNE email before you started. Do you remember when you can get that... and how.
Thanks
BAir
bluesunlily 12-11-2004, 12:59 PM Hi, about lab tables...you ain't got no choice in the matter. But really
there's no difference. It's a wonderful, up-to-date lab, so you'll be in
good hands.
My advice about anatomy lab...be nice to your partners, even if you
don't like them or there not your first choice of people to be spending
hours on end with. Bite your tongue - you'll be better off in the end.
You'll be anxious and eager the first weeks and you'll have a hard time
sharing the dissection. Just relax - there's plenty of time and you'll
learn everything you need to know.
About studying ahead...everybody last year told us to not study before
we got here. You definitely don't need to -- you'll have plenty of time
to learn everything if you dedicate yourself to it. HOWEVER, I don't think
it would hurt to buy some anatomy flashcards and start learning your
muscles and bones. You're gonna need to know that stuff for ever and
ever. So you might as well commit it to long term memory now. Plus it's
kinda cool and an enjoyable thing to learn.
Good luck!
Allison

Awesome! A handful of Florida people!! :) I am from Florida too and am a little weary about the cold weather. Right now, it's cold in FL and I keep thinking to myself "Maine's cold will be worse. just great." But hey, Maine is definitely beautiful and the UNECOM campus is awesome; people are awesome, facilities are amazing. So what's a little shiver and teeth chatter? No problemo. xterratri 12-27-2004, 08:53 AM I don't know who you've been talking to but myself and most classmates secured our housing much earlier. I waited until the first week of May and only got a good place(or actually the place that met all my preferred criteria) because someone else had just backed out on it. I know that my current landlord wants a commitment from us as to whether we are returning next year by early January. That being said, both of us UNECOM 2008ers intend to stay in the house. An important consideration in looking for housing is UNECOM's academic year. Yes, I live in a beach house but I paid a premium for August and even then couldn't get into my apartment until Aug 14th. I actually had a better situation than some classmates that didn't get in until September. In addition, I will be moving out for the summer at the end of May. That's not a big deal for me because I knew up front that I had "vacation" plans for San Antonio and Fort Sam. I will likely be moving to a smaller apartment that my landlord rents as a year round rental because our schedule for next year starts Aug 3rd and ends June 30. You first years will be done a month earlier. Other housing misc., living on Hills Beach is great. I can work out, study, and otherwise focus on being the best student I can be without the distractions of noisy neighbors, etc. I can ride my bike to school(I drove maybe 7 days all semester and most of those were due to preceptorships) and am even close enough to go home for lunch. On the other hand, the closest grocery store(and bars) are a 15 minute drive into town. So you plan ahead and there is the Sea Star convenience store at the end of Hills Beach. Good luck.
PS- I was so happy to see the class of 2009 thread. It encourages me that the school has faith that we too shall succeed. School is both what I expected and nothing like I expected but it's awesome and there's no place I rather be.(Although DisneyWorld's awfully nice to visit.)

babyjordan429 12-29-2004, 09:17 AM Hey guys,
I hope everyone had a great Christmas. With New Year's right around the corner I'm wondering where I'm going to live next Fall.
So I'm wondering...how soon should I start looking? Right now, I'm under the impression that housing doesn't become available closer to the start of the semester. And getting housing usually isn't a problem...is that the case or should I start looking right away?
Also, are there apartment complexes by the school? I've heard people rent out their houses and convert those into apartments. Really, an apartment complex with like a gym and a good "sometimes quiet" community is what I'm looking for...any suggestions?
Oh, I know I'm going to have to turn in a whole bunch of stuff to UNECOM towards february, but does anyone know what all that stuff is so I can get a headstart on collecting all the information....I know it includes immunization records, but thats all I know...
Any help would be greatly appreciated...can't wait to see you all next year!! Happy 2005 everyone!!

docbill 12-29-2004, 09:22 AM Hey guys,
I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

Hi Farhan,
I know most students live on the street where the school is. These are normally summer houses, but rented to students from Sep to May. There are others that live further from the University and drive. I guess people like Jon and Mcandy can provide better information.
I though only the second deposit has to be in by feb. I heard nothing about immunizations or any other documents required. Did you get something in the mail or was it off the website.
Don't stress out about it... I am sure we will figure it out.

babyjordan429 12-29-2004, 09:35 AM Hey BA,
Thanks for getting back to me sooo quick. Yeah can't wait to start looking for housing. Its gonna be fun :)
Anyways, I just heard from a friend at another school that they require a whole bunch of stuff like immunization records, etc. I didn't get that off the UNECOM website or anything so don't quote me on that. Who is Jon and Mcandy? Current students or part of our class? Let me know when you get a chance.
Peace :D

JonB and McCandy and others contributed to this thread.. they are MS1 I believe, and they went through all of this last year. The class of 2008 have been very helpful... just as other people in upper years have been.
Re: housing I assume most of 2nd years will be moving away for their rotations.. and that means there will be enough spaces available for the new incoming year. Go to the UNE website and log on to pipeline and you can get more information about groups and I beleive eventuatly someone will strat a class of 2009 page.
Re: Amunizations.. I think we have to show that before begining class.
BA (Bill,,, aka docbill. heheh)
docbill 12-29-2004, 09:47 AM Anyone want Gmail accounts.
I figure I would offer them to UNECOM students first

thanks
me
Mich, I just logged on.. it is working fine.
Did you log on before or is this your first time.
You have two defferent logins
UNE PRN is for accademic stuff... registration/transcripts etc...
where as the pipeline is a different one.
I believe you have to creat both if you are new. For pipeline use the same temperary password.. I think it was date of birth. Anyway do UNE PRN one first and do the same for pipeline.
mcandy 12-30-2004, 04:59 PM OOOHHH! I feel like an international man of mystery rather than a rapidly greying stressed out med student who is dreading the arrival of monday. Happy New Year all.
Immunizations need to be done before you can start your preceptors (2 or 2rd week of class). They will send you info soon I am sure. More than likely you will need to get some titers for shots you had when you were a kid. Make sure your tetanus is good and that you have had a TB test. You can get this stuff done while at school but it sucks giving up your hour of freedom at lunch to become a pin cushion. It is also more expensive through school. Speaking of which I would urge you all to investigate the SOMA insurance (they will send you a packet soon too) or an outside carrier. The UNE insurance is not very good and $$$$.
Dont buy books until you get our evaluation. Alot of "required books" are collecting dust in my classmates closets.
Housing. Don't sweat it. Current MS2 students will leave and spots will open. There are plenty of year round places off the beach (biddo, saco, kennebunk etc) and there are year round places to be had on the beach as well ( although a little more challenging to acquire). I got my place in june. It is ocean view, year round, oil heat, 3 bedroom, laundry, deck. I pay 460/mo to shre it with one roomie. A good friend was accpeted here the friday before classes started and he got a year round place on hills beach. CHeckout the UNE site that was posted previously here that will steer you in the direction of realtors. Also if you guys start a website for your class and have a housing wanted area I will be certain to make my classmates aware as many of us live with MS2 now and their spots will be vacant on july 1. It is the way to go as our schedules are very different, inhouse advice is nice, and hey, they already own the textbooks. There are still places empty and advertised at school on the bulletin board and the apartment above me (2 bedroom year round, ocean view is empty for the year.) That said, alot of people get places that require them to couch surf or hotel dwell. It doesnt seem to be more stressful, but I won't claim to be an expert on that topic.
Alright, I am disapearing until classes start. Enjoy your freedom while you can! :luck:
ps Dont forget your FAFSA (jan. 1-mar 1??)
docbill 01-02-2005, 12:05 PM Thanks Andy...
BTW.. I will be the first to post in the new year.. and not allow this thread to fall to the bottom of the page.
Do you guys notice how we have like 10pages already... wow... that is how I got most of my post.. hehehe.
How many people do we have so far... I know we lost a few to NY and NJ but I hope we get more soon.
Did anyone else succeed in logging on to pipeline.
BA
OUT
Doc Oc 01-02-2005, 05:43 PM Sometime around May, UNECOM usually sends out a fat packet of paperwork, one item of which is an immunization form and a physical for your doc. All the shots/titers you need have a slot on this form to be filled in, so if you fill out the form it'll become obvious what you need. Just get it done before you come to school - Don't even waste a lunch during first year worrying about something that is easily remedied ahead of time. (Unless, of course, you are accepted 2-3 weeks before school and don't have the luxury of time).
Doc Oc 01-02-2005, 05:47 PM www.mainetoday.com has some rental info. UNE used to have a housing website, horribly out of date but some of the landlords listed rent several places or might know someone you can call if their place is rented. There is a Biddeford newspaper website also, I think it is www.journaltribune.com. If none of those turn up leads, sometimes current students will send out an email to their whole class for you asking about housing opportunities that are opening up. I remember getting a few emails like that when I was a second year (but I wasn't moving, so I couldn't be of assistance :( ). Good luck, and feel free to PM me with questions about 3rd and 4th year ifyou have any. 1st and 2nd year are totally different now, so I wouldn't know how to answer!
UNE2009LMD 01-04-2005, 03:41 PM Is there an apt complex/townhouse etc. where most UNECOM students live? I prefer to live in a place surrounded by my classmates rather than a random apt where I know no one. If so, please let me know. :)
docmz 01-04-2005, 04:17 PM are you guys going to go with the roomate thing or try to make it on your own for the first year? is it finiacially possible to live on your own if you plan to live off of loans?
