Got a thank-you email and encouragement to ask more questions from Indiana U's program director, and St. Vincent's (Indianapolis, not NYC) sent me a Christmas card. Actually, both of these Indianapolis programs were almost overwhelming in how nice they were to applicants and how much attention they gave. Hell, at St. Vincent, they only interview one or two candidates a day so they can make sure they get to know each candidate as a person. (they manage this by only interviewing ~70 people for their 12 spots) Say what you will about the south, I'll stand by our midwest hospitality (I'm originally a Hoosier).

Haven't had any other interviews (well, except Temple... silly Temple...), but I don't expect similar treatment from more high-profile programs, certainly.

Hey, did you like the program? I am interviewing there in a few weeks.

I thought Mayo was fantastic, I was very impressed and will rank it highly. Everyone there was nice, I did not detect any flaws whatsoever in their training program. My personal situation is such that I wouldn't mind living in Rochester though, and I don't know if I'd go there were I single. I could get into specifics, but overall I simply left there with that "good feeling" about the program that is so vital. We can certainly compare nuts and bolts between these programs, but in the end whatever feels best will be the kicker for me.

got letters from both my interviewers at colorado. i guess i must have bullsh*tted well that day.

honestly, i don't think that we should put too much stock into getting thank you letters or a little extra personal attention from a program. i don't mean to put a damper on things, but i've heard a lot of horror stories about people thinking that they would match at certain programs because of such things, and they were unpleasantly surprised on match day.

on the flip side, i know plenty of people who matched at programs that didn't seem to go the extra mile for them on their interview days.

i guess i just don't think that it matters too much one way or the other.

Got one from the PD at Dartmouth this eve, likely due to the fact that I recently sent my interviewer at Dartmouth a thank you note. The PD at DHMC is SO nice and really cares about the residents, were it not for my being currently single and my family living in Boston, I would rank this program much higher.

got an interesting e-mail from one of the PD's (not sure it's appropriate to say who) saying that my application stood out as being among the most competitive so far this year and inviting me to a second look event. Flattering but odd; I'm not that competitive at all.. Not one of my top 3 programs at this point, but still a nice gesture. I don't mean to sound cryptic, but just don't want to ruffle any feathers or break post-interview ettiquette.. PM me if u want to discuss further or if u got a similar message..

Hi all, new to this site and thought I should share. I am still early in the game but have received thank you letters from Northwestern PD (typed with handwritten note) and OHSU PD (handwritten card). No word yet from my 3rd (very recent) interview. I wonder - do all programs send thank you notes, with varying degrees of "selectivity," or do some not partake in this at all?

Got one from the Chair of Medicine at Baystate, and the Assoc. PD I interviewed with told me I would be getting one from him as well. Yep, I got one from UPenn that said they would "love to have me" there but they didn't ask me if there was anything they could do to "make that happen". It had a sentence that was pretty close to that though. Other people have posted on this forum saying that they received similiar thank you notes from Penn. I didn't put too much stock in it.

OK, here is my guess. PDs nationally, who as you know have their conventions and meetings, must have decided to tone down the post-interview corespondence, to protect the integrity of the match and to protect their rears against litigation or unpleasantness. I have noticed that this post-interview communication is handled, except on rare occasions, in a very careful way.

Did anyone else who interviewed at MGH get an unsolicited email from the PD there this past week. It looked like a form email and said "you were one of the best applicants we saw this year, and are clearly in the very top group of our rank list." They also called, too.

I was very surprised to say the least. It seems like some sort of bizarro world (either that, or someone is playing a really mean prank).

Anyone else have an experience like that.

hi. i got a brief email from my interviewer at stanford. i did send him a thank you note, but i couldn't tell you if his email was a response to that, because 1) they didn't mention the note, and 2) it would be a very late reply, if that's what it is. it was basically just a nice note along the lines of "we liked you." i'm not going to try to read into it too much, but it was nice to receive (esp. since stanford is my top choice).

This week I've gotten some love from WFU (phone call from committee member), Alabama (I'd certainly be thrilled if you chose to come here), MUSC (note).
