for those that don't venture out of this forum into the "Osteopathic" forum, here is a link to a recent thread discussing the recent decision to with the combining of the AOA and AMA match programs.
Click here---combined match (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=166249)
to summarize, Dr. Thomas (President of AOA) doesn't want to combine match programs for various reasons but mostly because he thinks that it will cause DO's to loos their identity. the thread has a proposed letter for a petition to be sent to Dr. Thomas to hopefully make him reconsider.

What do allopathic students think about a combined match?
I wonder what they would do about the Boards if the match was to be combined.

I would assume that nothing would be done about the Boards. We would still have the COMLEX and the USMLE. This is because as DO's we have to complete the seperate OMM part of the COMLEX.

there is a movement to unify the boards and have a supplement that tests OMM but i don't see that happening soon. this is a more likely situation because it has actually come up for a vote by the AMA. this would definitely help DO students but i'm still trying to figure out a reason why an MD student would favor this.

It really doesn't have any bearing on MD students. Already almost half of us are in allopathic residency programs so it makes not difference to the MD's in the group. Unless they wish to do a DO residency. In which case I would assume they would be able to apply for and recieve. It might also limit the number of people applying for the residency that they want.
