the only desi movies I've seen in my life, hehe: (w/ subtitles, of course :D )

Dhoom - a HUGE ripoff of 4 american movies, but still unique for indian cinema.
Kal ho na ho - priety zinta(sp?), enough said :D
hum tum - cool movie, methinks.
dil chahta hai - very nice movie.

since i'm here anyway, i'll throw in that i love the music to chameli, dil ne jise..., swades, umm, what else..raaga's full blast :D

and chicken tandoori and veggie. jalfreezie (sp?). yum.

*edit* AND HAYWARD 5000!!! i had this the other day - never knew indians could make beer. i'm so proud of india

veer zara was good, but typical for one of his movies (devdas, hum dil de chuke sanam) etc. but still good, and the music is nice too.

everyone, and i mean EVERYONE, should go see Mein Houn Na. it was really good and funny...very surprising for an indian movie...and of course Munnabhia MBBS. :D

oh yeah, and saathiya too :)

veer zaara was really good. although it was pretty overly emotional. but as a whole production, it was very good, the music, the colors, contrast, cinematography, nice.

I for some reason didnt find Hungama to be that hilarious as some of the reviews on websites made it out to be... But got to admit, I nearly killed myself rolling literally on the ground with laughter towards the ending of this movie... I was trying to reach for the DVD remote to try and switch it off since I had a really bad stomach-ache as well as a "cheek-ache" because of all the laughing... But the remote was beyond my reach...

Anyway, I really want to watch Hulchul...

PS Priyadarshan's movies ROCK!!! *special mention to Hera Pheri*

Sorry to hijack, but Priyanka, I once told you I had a cousin who went to bhavans? His name was Amit Kulkarni, but I'd doubt you knew him given that he hardly talked to anyone. He lived on Grant Road in Shastri Hall in Mumbai (that's where my father comes from).

And, um, I once *almost* saw an indian movie about some actor with the last name "khan" who had or was indirectly related to the subject of AIDS. It was supposed to be ok.

I stop now. ;)

so ur basically saying that any movie that doesn't have shahrukh in it is a horrible movie ? or not worth watchng? I agree with DrPreet... even though srk is a good actor and does nice romantic roles, that is all he does. he has the same expressions on his face ... he doesn't try out new roles like Amir khan or even Hrithik do. There are plenty of great movies to watch that don't have srk in them... hulchul and dhoom are examples of the most recent ones I saw.

OMG esha deol was officially plastered inside my eyelids for a long period after I saw that movie. Hoooooootttttt. And I was shocked at how racy the first scene was

Yeah, it was a good movie - but I hated that it was a ripoff of Oceans 11, MI 2, fast and furious, and...another one i think. IF it were more original , then it'd be 'awesomer'.

It hardly matters whether dhoom was a ripoff of any english movie or not coz indians love movies only when it has their (indian)actors in it.ofcourse i m talking about the 'mawalis' who are the maximum cinema watchers in india. So it doesnt matter even if it wasnt original

I agree with the earlier post about Sharukh Khan having basically the same maligned expression on his face in every movie....then again, you could say that about every other Indian actor.

Hrithik is really good, and his movies actually have really good production values...but everytime hes on screen, I keep watching for the 6th finger!!! Can't he do something about that?

Priety (sp?) Zinta looks like a childhood friend of mine, so watching her in anything is like watching a romantic dramedy with my sister.

Kareena's hot!!! But she seems like she'd be kinda prissy and prudish in person.

Saif Ali Khan is my favorite actor. He has really good comedic timing and is content being a supporting actor in good movies, rather than the lead in bad ones.

I dont get Esha Deol...I just don't....get....her. Shes not a good actor at all, and always looked pissed off.

Also...I havent watched most (actually...any) of the movies you guys listed, but I cant believe no one mentioned Kal Ho Na Ho. I thought it was really good.

So thats my 2 cents. Even though I've only seen like three movies since last summer, I watch a lot more during breaks when I visit home...ZeeTV and SET are awesome!

hey guys
by this time you all must have known that the glamour queen of the 70s Parveen babi died yesterday
what saddened me the most was the way she died
there was nobody besides her in her apartment and the body was only discovered after the neighbours complained of foul stench coming out of her apartment.
she was diabetic and had a gangrene on her foot
her body is lying unclaimed at cooper hospital morgue,
isn't it sad
nobody deserves this kind of death
may her soul rests in peace

Has Anyone seen "Page 3".......

i saw page 3
it is a nice movie, something differant than the regular bollywood movies
it is about people moving in high society circles in bombay and how they live an artificial life
it is reccomended for people who like reality and serious type of movies
since I spent most of my life in bombay, I really appreciated the movie
Also the Director of this movie "madhur Bhandarkar" had made " chandni bar "
which was a movie about bar girls in bombay and that was also a brilliant movie

1hotaartichoke

yes, chandni bar was a sad movie but unfortunately depicted the real story of bar girls in bombay, how they get exploited by the society and what they have to go through to make a living
I thought Tabu was brilliant in that movie and the rest of the girls were actually bar girls in real life

I don't plan on watching Mr. Bacchan's newest flick, cause frankly, the man cannot act. :scared:

*sunny runs and hides* :meanie:

Truth_Betold was referring to a film by Deepa Mehta, about two lesbian women (Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das), the film's name was Fire, and it was pretty good. Earth was also good, and I am eagerly waiting for Water (who knows when the mob will get off the director's back).

I don't know really, I guess it is just a personal preference :D . I guess the man recieves so much attention and devotion (have you seen the shrines people make of him?) just for being an actor, that I think it is really undeserved.

When growing up, Amitabh was my cousin's favourite, while Amrish Puri was my favourite (because of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom).

Let's not forget about Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard), Kelsey Grammer (Fraiser), Avery Brooks (Captain Sisko), Samuel Jackson, Bruce Willis, and many others...

Plus, I sport the dome during the summer time (best when playing tennis). I got shaggy hair that keeps growing, but now, its on the short, presentable side (never know when an interview will come up :D ).

Anyone see the documentary "Born into Brothels"? It was about children in Calcutta's red light district, who were taught photography. It also won this year's Oscar for Best Documentary. Anyways, I asked my university to order it for our media library. Unfortunately, I haven't come across a trailer for the movie.
