Though I probably won't be going there, I thought WSU was really good, and much better than the rankings seemed to indicate. The campus is modern and in a safe part of town, the medical school building looks good, and the program itself seemed fantastic (a lot of computerization, patient interaction etc.) All the best - you'll be happy there.! I have one other acceptance but wsu is my number one choice mainly b/c of the great location-Dayton. Actually all of them seemed real nice and approachable - very laid back. Teresa is also a wonderful person. I agree with lovely1 about location - its just minutes from N.Fairfield Rd, which is a pretty lively place. A lot of med students hang out at the Barnes and Nobles there all the time - I know because I see them often with huge text books! All the best to those waitlisted. Hopefully others will relinquish their seats too, and get you some good news soon! lovely1 01-12-2005, 05:41 PM Thanks guys for all of your help! If you think you got good grades last quarter, it is a good idea to send in a transcript (it doesn't have to be an official one at this point). Remember, many people are going to drop out(did I use a wrong word? :o ) from the school on may 15th. The waitlist movement is going to be pretty good, so keep your chin up. And congratulations on your other acceptence. :) . May be all of us won't go to the colleges we want to go, but atleast we have an oppurtunity to go to some school (honestly my first option is OSU because of the location, they didn't even give me an interview :( ). ravi 01-17-2005, 04:31 PM Hey guys, I posted this on allo forum but I didn't get any reply. Since you guys are also planning to attend WSU, I thought you guys might know something about these questions. Those who are attending Wright state or who knows something about it's schedule, could you please tell me what the daily schedule is like. Like, at what time does the classes start? How many days per week do you attend the classes? I know it is mandatory to attend the labs, but can you skip other classes, if you think you can make it on your own? I am asking all these questions because I have to take some major decisions ( like selling the house ). I live in columbus and it takes me around 1 hr 30 min to drive. If it is only two or three days a week, I am planning to drive. If not, then We have to sell the house and move closer. And by the way I am asking about first two years schedule. Ofcourse we have to do some rotations at WSU (3 months), apart from that we can do every thing at Mt. Carmel. Liverpool, this is from their website: "The school's philosophy is to seek students with diverse social, ethnic, and cultural heritages. This includes not only minority students, but also the older and non-traditional student." But the average age of Wright State's (http://www.princetonreview.com/medical/research/profiles/generalinfo.asp?listing=1037707<ID=11) entering class was 23 according to the Princeton Review while Cincinnati (http://www.princetonreview.com/medical/research/profiles/generalinfo.asp?listing=1032672<ID=11&intBucketID=0) and OSU (http://www.princetonreview.com/medical/research/profiles/generalinfo.asp?listing=1032895<ID=11&intBucketID=0) had an average age of 22. What's up Beanie.. there is definitely a chapter of AOA at WSU. Junior AOA is not a separate entity from the AOA, rather students are assigned the "junior" title if they are chosen for AOA early in third (junior) year. Junior AOA membership can make up no more than 4% of the anticipated graduating class (which means 3 kids per class at WSU). The rest of the students chosen for AOA membership can make up 12.5% of the graduating class. In my opinion, junior AOA is such a difficult goal to achieve it's not even worth thinking about. It's much better to focus on doing your best and having a balanced life. Getting the regular AOA membership will be quite an accomplishment in itself. But that's my $0.02.. Sorry to hear that Ravi - but I thought last year's tuition was $22,000 or at least thats what I thought I was told when I went there for an interview - which would be about a 4K increase - still high but not dramatically so. ravi 05-12-2005, 02:08 PM Sorry to hear that Ravi - but I thought last year's tuition was $22,000 or at least thats what I thought I was told when I went there for an interview - which would be about a 4K increase - still high but not dramatically so. Hi TD, how are you doing? On the website, last year's tuition (18,400) + other fees(1059) = 19,500(app). I was ecpecting 12% increase, which would push it to 22,500 (app). I thought 26, 000 is too steep. BTW did you start shopping for OSU stuff? :) TripleDegree 05-12-2005, 02:27 PM Yeah a bunch of us went out to Columbus, and bought some cool OSU medicine sweatshirts. BTW, I have a WSU School of Medicine cap too  Were you able to get any $$$ from WSU? I think someone on SDN was able to get some scholarship money. ravi 05-12-2005, 03:56 PM Yeah a bunch of us went out to Columbus, and bought some cool OSU medicine sweatshirts. I got some, but it was nothing compared to tuition raise. Copule of days ago I was soooooooo happy, now I am rethinking my decision. I thought WSU is the school for me and I stoped pursuing other options, probably I should start writing LOI to some of the schools.... :( ravi 05-13-2005, 08:34 AM Hurrayyyyyyyyyyyy! Tuition is not 26,000......... It is 21,000. Yesterday's number includes all the expenses like health insurance, books etc. I called office again today and they gave me this gooooood news. Sorry! if I scared anybody :o . dobs737 05-19-2005, 10:24 PM Hey all you future WS students! I was accepted in Feb. but just got accepted to NYMC this week. I have to make a decision by Monday. Before I read these threads I was thinking NYMC, its about 30 min. north of NYC. But...now I'm kinda leaning towards WS. I am ohio born and raised and I think the people in the mid-west are great. What were the major factors you considred when you decided on med schools and how did you rank them? Cost isn't a big deal b/c all I got from WS was loans : ( but at least NYMC gave me a scholarship which puts it at about the same price as WS. ravi 05-20-2005, 01:12 AM Hey all you future WS students! For me location was the most important thing. dobs737 05-20-2005, 12:29 PM Ravi - do you go to OSU? I do. I just wondered if that was why you liked Wright's location so much! ravi 05-20-2005, 07:09 PM Ravi - do you go to OSU? I do. I just wondered if that was why you liked Wright's location so much! I was hoping to organize some sort of happy hour the weekend of the white coat ceremony, perhaps on Fri the 29th. But now it looks like I may be moving in that weekend and will be surrounded by boxes - I'm not happy about this! |
