Hi all

I'm writing a case report, and I have a deadline by next week
My supervisor suggested submitting to AJO but I looked at their word limit and it's only 650! And I am at 2500 words. That is way too much to shrink down. When I look at case reports from the past, they seem much longer than 650 words.

So I 'm thinking of submitting to Ophthalmology instead...if their word limit is good. BUT they say 6 pages is normal for a manuscript...not sure if they have different rules for case reports since these are usually shorter than full research papers.

Oh yeah, and do you guys normally credit the pathologist? Cuz I copied his report word for word into the manuscript for the case report, so far.

Any advice?

If you use a pathology specimen, then I'd add the pathologist as a co-author. It doesn't hurt to include people. You'll make more friends that way. ;)

Why is your paper 2500 words for a case report? I think you should try to edit first.

If you have path, you can try Archives of Ophthalmology:

"Clinicopathologic Reports should not exceed 1000 words and should have no more than 8 figures or tables and 10 references. "

Thanks Andrew.

I wasn't sure if I should include the pathologist because he only gave a few lines for interpretation.

The reason why I have 2500 words for a case report, is partly because of the long discussion and case report itself, plus the pathology report for 2 different specimens. One of the reports was pretty long actually.

Re: choice of journal, my supervisor said that Ophthalmology or AJO would be both good. I did some research on google and found that Ophthalmology has a higher journal impact rating than AJO. Not sure if that's current though.

What do u think?

AJO is tough to get in. Both are good however. If you include path slides, then include the pathologist.
