I still haven't decided. Honestly, I will likely decline acceptance if I am pulled off the waitlist at my state school. I really loved MCW but the draw of state tuition is just too attractive. Are there any new Yorkers heading to MCW?

Buffalo and Upstate. However, I will probably only give up my acceptance at MCW for a seat at Buffalo.

Count me in fellows. I just got my acceptance letter today. I interviewed on 1/21. I loved the school, the faculty and staff are very friendly and supportive. :)
This is my first acceptance. I am so excited.

I'm almost sure. I think education-wise, it's the best place for me to go, but since I still have a choice I'm not committing 100%.

But I really like MCW and I will most likely be there. We should start a "contact list" thing going.

If anybody is interested, that is. AOL Instant Messenger: EMT Splat

MCW here I come :). I interviewed Jan. 7th and was accepted a week later. Also, I'm down for starting a contact list of people who are sure they are going there next year.

By the way, where is everyone thinking of living and when are you going to start looking for a place?

This crappy news about the SUNYs in an above post is making me take a closer look at MCW:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=178755

On a more positive note, I really enjoyed my MCW interview. The staff and students seemed very supportive and the facilities were quite impressive. The only down sides were the $33,000 in tuition alone that I will be paying as a non-Wisconsin resident, and the lecture intensive curriculum. And I guess the thought of a New Yorker in Wauwatosa is somewhat daunting. I wouldn't be shocked if I'm the only one, but are there any other New Yorkers planning on going to MCW? Well, if anyone plans on starting a contact list, count me in - I'll PM you my e-mail address. ;)

Thanks for the compliments guys/gals.

I was pretty happy with the match as well. As for MCW, it was a great school with great facilities. Did you all get that email from Istwan about the Children's hospital?

The only thing concerning me will be the weather. After 6 years in SoCal, the fact that I won't be able to wear shorts for 6 months of the year scares me. :scared:

I'm sure it will be worth it.
The children's hospital email was impressive, I knew it was a good hospital, but I didn't know it was that good.

Aside from the Children's Hospital e-mail, has anyone heard anything from MCW since receiving their acceptances? It seems like they accept you and then you're on your own until next fall... Not that I'm complaining, because I'm definitely just happy to be in, but it would be nice for them to keep in touch once in a while.

Nothing here. My guess is that they're just waiting for the fallout from the non-rolling school acceptances before they send more information out, saving themselves a bunch of time and money.

I send that in ~ 3 weeks ago, I'll probably call in a few more weeks to make sure everything was received and is satisfactory.

I just spoke to MCW to see when they were going to send out their financial aid packet. They said to plan on receviing it in early summer. After pressing for something more definite, the lady said it should be out by the beginning of July. The waiting continues.

On another note, they posted their tuition ($33,370) and expected budget for the 2005-2006 year:

Drum roll please…………..and the total is……………..$187,239 over four years. And that’s only if you can stay in the budget. I'm such a wus when it comes to these things. Anyone else sweating bullets over these figures? I know I would be happy at MCW but I'm still having a hard time justifying the cost over my state (SUNY) school. I don't mean to bring the mood down in here, but these figures might keep me out. Somebody smack some sense into me. :scared:

MCW is at the low end for private schools and since it's in the midwest the cost of living is so cheap. I know tuition would be lower at your state school, but have you calculated living expenses? That's a rough spot to be in. I only get to choose between private schools. My dilemma right now is that my fiance has a sweet job in my home state that could pay for school, but then we would have to live apart. So live apart and hardly be in debt or be happy together but be $187239 in the hole.

Tough call, I know. I too have to add a long term relationship into the equation. My girlfriend and I have been together for 5 years. She is currently finishing her Masters in NY and will then be looking for a teaching job. She and I have obviously spoken about this multiple times and she has voiced that she would rather stay in NY. I guess I can't blame her – all her family is in NY and I'd imagine that I'll be so busy that I won't be much company. Decisions. Decisions.

Although things could obviously be worse: I could be unemployed with a big fat pie of rejections sitting on my desk. Life is good. :D

Those are tough calls. I'm in a similar dilemma but it's a relatively new relationship compared to some of yours. It will be difficult to be separated for so long, but my gf is thinking about transferring to Marquette (she will still be in undergrad) to follow me to MCW, so that's always a plus!! :)

Anyway, I just revisited the school on my spring break (I'm from Wisconsin) and they told me that they would be sending out a med school "tips and advice" package or something at the end of May (after May 15 so they send it only to the people who are really attending). I was also told that we would be getting financial stuff sometime mid-summer. Happy waiting.

Accepted and most likely going...depends if I get off the alternate list at Madison, where I currently go to school.

class of 09 for sure though...mcw really impressed me though and it'd be a tough choice if I do get into madison. Do you think I should let the tuition decide?

The tuition difference is about 5k per year between the two. I don't think that should be a big factor in your decision.

Who say's you can't wear shorts for six months of the year??? It's all about the mindset. Think warm=Be warm.

I sometimes wear shorts in January on my 3 mile motorcycle ride to campus...and it was a just a bit nippy! :scared:

And just to save you all the trouble, I'll just say it myself..."This guy is a complete idiot!!!" http://www.hepcnet.net/bbssmilies/bonk.gif

Thought I'd bump this thread. Anyone thinking of having a roommate in school? Wauwatosa is a little pricier than I originally thought. I read a city guide for the area that said it was one of the most desirable areas to live in around Milwaukee, which is a good thing, but some of the apartments I've come across are so expensive. Not sure if I want to do the roommate thing again, though.

GATORade
03-20-2005, 01:39 PM
As nice as it would be to live without a roommate, I think it would make the most financial sense for me to do so. Supposedly MCW offers some sort of roommate matching service where they try to match you up with someone compatible - I remember coming across some info on this on their website.
