Wow that's awesome. I've done research at UCSF off and on for the past couple of years. I love the campus and was really disappointed when they didn't take me :( After visiting LA tho i was like "whoa..." UCSF does have amazing facilities and the ranking is a big plus... but I think with the new hospital coming and the new neuroscience facility (which is what i wanna get into) UCLA becomes a serious contender. Course I'm biased now that i've decided to go there :D

But I'm still gonna root for Cal during the football season ... hehe...

Anyway, congrats Tra la la! Let us know where you decide on~

Thanks for the kind words, skreenin.

UCLA is an amazing place--and their new hospital and biomedical research facilities are breathtaking. I think of all the places I have visited, UCLA has the best location, campus, and environment.

Geffen is a wonderful place, and it's so open (UCSF is a little cramped and cornered).

Congrats on getting in!

Hello everyone. I might be going to ULCA in the fall, but I'm still not ready to commit for sure. It is definitely an awesome option to have though. Money will probably be a big factor in my decision. Do any of you know how easy or common it is for med students to get in-state tuition at UCLA after a year? I remember at my UCSF interview the financial aid lady said that their out-of-staters get in-state tuition after a year if they do all the things they need to for the residency. I wonder if that applies for UCLA as well. It is probably something I need to contact UCLA about, but I don't like to bother admissions offices.

I wish I could go to the second look weekend, but I'm studying abroad this semester. It's a long trip to make from Buenos Aires:)

I don't see why UCSF could offer you that and UCLA could not. I think it's a legitimate reason to bug the admissions office ^^ I've called them a couple of times for more trivial things... but after you say "Hi, i was recently accepted to ucla... blah blah blah" they're really nice and willing to help.

Btw... when is second look weekend and how come I never was officially told about it? I think it'd be great to see the campus one more time for peace of mind before i commit the next four years of my life...

Congratulations on admission! That's the requirement California sets for residency. That means regardless of what Cali school you go to, you'll get in-state residency after first year (public schools).

yeah, i was at recruitment, but i was exhausted from a long night the day before and didn't end up talking to very many people ... silly on my part, but i'm definitely looking forward to meeting everyone at orientation!

i LOVED the standardized patient segment, though... that actor was intense (but i guess i shouldn't be surprised since well.. it is LA :) )

do you know what percentage of the M1s live at weyburn? do you think i'll be missing out on first-year bonding if i live somewhere else in westwood or in brentwood??

Hi all,

I got accepted to UCLA this week, and I am considering going there. I have a few questions for you guys:

Did you guys get the financial package from UCLA yet? If so, how long does it take since you submitted the form?

Do most med students live at the Weyburn Terrace? Is there a lottery for it? How does the room arrange? Do you get your own room? How about parking?

Thanks!

The weyburn apts have single studio type apts as well as two room apts and two room town house types. the rent ranges from 825-875 a month. everyone on this thread should apply there and we can start a cohort or something ^^

in regards to parking, i know if you're a med student who lives off-campus you get guaranteed parking... i think it's P7 next to the gym, but i could be wrong... either way, it's supposedly a 5 - 10 minute walk from the SoM.

if you live in weyburn, you get weyburn parking.

i'm not sure how much rates are, though..

hope that helps!

also, are you all applying for studios or 2 bedrooms?

finally, do you know how many med students live in Venice/Barry or Rose or Keystone/Mentone?

Parking in Westwood is always bad....but your visitor could park along Veteran and walk to Weyburn Terrace...not that far....it might not be easy to find parking on Veteran ...but it's possible if you're lucky. My last quarter at UCLA, I commuted and always found a parking. I also used the school bus to get around....

hey all,

I'm so excited to go to ucla, back to warm and sunny weather!

i talked with the financial aid people recently. Once your fafsa and need access form is in, you can call the office and they said they can get you an estimate (by email) pretty quickly. call the office and let them know if you want this done though, otherwise I think they take a while (as most of us, i'm sure, know already)

website is:
http://www.accessgroup.org/software/need_access/onlineapp.htm

also, i have heard that ucla on average covers about 25% of the cost to attend with grants. of course, if your parents have a relatively high income, like mine, this will unlikely apply. (sucks to be me cuz they are not giving me a dime! :( )

UCLA also gives every entering student a grant of around 1600, which may not be much compared to the overall cost, but if you're parents are in the upper income, it may be more than you receive at most schools as far as grants.

The other things to think about, is that if you're parents aren't going to pay for the EFC, than you would have to take out the rest of the loan, and depending on the school they will give you alternative or unsub loans. I was told that the unsubsidized stafford (which UCLA gives to compensate for EFC) is still better than the alternative loans you'd probably have to take out at other schools. At least the unsub stafford has a capped interest rate, while alternative loans are subject to the inflation in the economy.

i'm no expert, but thats what i have gleaned from reading the phamplet and talking with the people at UCLA . hope that helps a little

I actually will get more from UCLA than I was expecting. I didn't think that my parents' income would allow me to qualify for any need-based aid (it didn't for college), but the number that the school gave me is tentatively $5500.

anything is fine in LA as far as cell phone providers go. sprint, cingular, tmobile... i don't know of anyone who has had reception issues in west LA.

also -- does anyone know when we get UCLA email accounts? my undergrad just sent me a threatening letter about how mine gets deactivated on june 24th...

Cell phone: I have Cingular and it works well in the hospital/Westwood/7th flr classroom where you'll spend all of your first year (you move to 6th flr for the 2nd year)
White Coat ceremony: IF you guys are excited about getting vaccination forms because it makes you feel like a part of UCLA SOM, this ceremony will be great. It's gonna come at the end of the orientation wk. There'll be some boring speeches (expected); at the end everybody's name and previous school will be announced - some physician will put the white coat on you (which you pick up previously) - AND YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE IT. And even though you will not want to, you'll have to take it off sometimes later that night, BUT...
You get to wear it real soon as you:
1. Take all the pictures with the family members posing with the Dean, etc
2. Take all the pictures with classmates you don't yet know very well
3. Interview standardized patients in the Doctoring class (although half of the time in the second half of the year you'll forget it and end up interviewing without it)
4. Go shadowing anybody you want in the hospital (including any surgery at the OR: just tell them you're a 3rd year and warn the surgeon performing it - they love having people come and watch them [some like to teach, too])
5. Go on preceptorship rounds with a physician they'll assign to you, where you'll practice interviewing patients and doing physican exam
6. ....

any q's about ucla? let me know. we are in psychiatry block right now, so things are kinda slow... still

JimDiGriz

yes, what's the deal with the 1st and 2nd year selectives? any recommendations?
you'll have plenty of time to decide on those. I'm taking medical spanish right now (intermediate/beginner level). For this selective they had written and oral exams where they placed you according to your abilities in Spanish (no rookies were allowed)
Most people enjoyed whichever selective they chose. The best thing to do is narrow it down to 3-5, then find 2nd years (i.e. us) that took that particular selective and get the dirty details.
Don't forget some selectives are year-long and some only for 3-4 months. After a while you'll realize that free time is an important commodity.

You are welcome to send any q's! I love this medical school, but I think I usually give unbiased (and very useful) opinion/info, as i've been here for 6 years now (grad sch before med)

yep, and I can't believe i'm almost done with my first year. Although, they told us that 'technically' at this point we've done more than the half of curriculum, so we are all MSII's now.
How appropriate now that we are studying delusions of grandeur.

You are going to love the new curriculum! It's very low stress, but a lot is left up to the student to learn (you must be self-driven).

ooo.. i just went through this last month and finally settled on a place in westwood (mostly bc i got sick of looking...). i wanted something proximate, though, so this place works out well.

westwood area tends to have kind of old apartments for waaay too much based on what they look like (unless youre willing to pay $$$$ for some of the highrise buildings along wilshire... 1800 or more for a 1bdrm).

brentwood is really nice -- i was thinking about renting there, and apparently its not that much of a hassle to drive to school if you know the appropriate shortcuts.

santa monica -- very cool area, but will take you 30 min to drive through the traffic.

palms/mar vista -- lots of students live here.. hear some parts of it can be ghetto, but its much cheaper and close to UCLA.

check rent.com, apartments.com and the UCLA student housing site for recent listings. people have also had good luck with westsiderentals.com, but that costs $60 for 60 days.

hope that helps :)

culver city gets a  . i used to live in palms, and i loved that area. its really close (and similar) to culver city except it is a little closer to santa monica/venice and the beach. both palms and culver city are great because they are near fun places in LA but they cities themselves are quite and affordable residential areas. they are also super close to ucla (15-30 minutes by car depending on traffic, also near great public bus lines). what major streets are you thinking of living by Lunav?

Ooh! i'm through! haha ok now i'm off the phone with em. Sooo... the guy told me that they just completed their first round of offers for the housing. I was just recently added to the med school's guaranteed housing list. They said they'll email me within a few days with the offer, and that i'd have 3 weeks to respond and accept. Kownell: The graduate student housing actually doesn't offer that much of a deal. I easily found comparable rates in westwood and cheaper rates in the surrounding areas on craigslist.org. I used to live in Palms which is 10 minutes away from campus - PM me if you have questions about the area.

TY06: Do you know what proportion of students live in Weyburn/Graduate housing?

i dont know the exact percent/number (im sure you can ask the housing office). most students live there, i would say. what is nice is that i believe dr. parker (dean of students) tries to put all of you in the same complex...basically you will all be together. there are some others that live in westwood (if they went to undergrad here...they just keep their place). there are maybe 5 in palms. there are a few in graduate student housing.
i think it is one of the cheper deals. plus, i think its one of the very few apartments that will give free utilities. i think this is what keeps a lot of people there! and they are new! your own bathroom and room. etc.

Hello all, I just got accepted off the waitlist yesterday and I am so stoked to come to LA. Though it is odd moving from the waitlist thread to the class of 2009 one. Just wanted to say hello. Jen: If you're close by you can stop by the admissions office to expedite the process. I was in the LA area earlier this week and was able to get my student ID/PIN, put in a $100 deposit for Weyburn, and turn in my written acceptance. The pesky campus mail takes over a week to get to my apartment. You can also call the weyburn terraces office to schedule a tour with Mary Anne if you'd like.

Regarding Prologue: I was on the fence about this one, so it's great to hear some feedback from current MS1/2s.

Thanks, Jen. I actually have been calling the housing office weekly since mid-May. Last week, they finally told me that I'm not on "the list" that the medical school sends to the housing office. So, I called the medical school, and they said that I shouldn't worry about anything because I'm definitely on the list, and that Weyburn probably hasn't updated their files recently. I am not too concerned because I believe the medical school reserves a certain number of rooms at Weyburn, so it's not like I won't have a place to live.

I called the office today about financial aid and they said that they shouldn't be sending anything out until July! I guess that's when they are doing their disbursements. Also, the deadline to submit stafford loan apps before the interest rate increase on july 1 was may 5, so I guess there is nothing we can do about that. A bit more debt for us all. Oh well. Yeah, I got all that stuff. Definitely exciting! Speaking of parking though, from what you have heard do you think I could get by without a car in Westwood? I'm trying to save my nickles and dimes so if I can avoid getting a car at least for the first year I would like to. Thanks!

I don't think you'll need a car first year. I went for four years as a UCLA undergrad without a car and it was not a problem. I think you'll need a car starting third year, though. Public transportation in Los Angeles is horrible.

well, i guess you could get away. but i dont recommend it. you want to be able to go shopping, go out and see the city, go out to bars, clubs, etc and you will need a car. friends can drive you, but then you will be depending on others and they will get annoyed. you also have to go to preceptor visits, etc that you will need a car for. there will be things you need to get done here when you get a car, just life things, and you will need a car.
the kids that live in weyburn, even though its a bout a 5 minute walk, still drive their car to school whenever they can park (after 4:30pm). you will want to stay late in the library and so you need a car to get back.

basically, i think you can get away, but it will be stressful and will limit you. if you can afford a car, i would get one. it can be a crappy cheap car just to get you around town.

So, I called the medical school, and they said that I shouldn't worry about anything because I'm definitely on the list, and that Weyburn probably hasn't updated their files recently. I am not too concerned because I believe the medical school reserves a certain number of rooms at Weyburn, so it's not like I won't have a place to live.

you are supposed to be guaranteed weyburn. so dont worry.

so are they dedicating a complex to med students? our students all live in the same complex basically. its nice to live next to your friends...it helps when you want to study, drink, go out, walk home together, hook up with, etc. you should check and make sure they do it for you guys!

LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

as far as the curriculum, you guys will love it. im jelous that you are the third group to go through it. there have been many changes made and it should be perfect for your group. :D

woo hoo! congrats jen. i wonder if you're the jen i know... if so even more congrats ^^

so i wonder how we're actually going to make the transition from sdn avatars/sns to real names. haha that'd be funny if we walked around with name tags or introduced ourselves with our sdn info.

i have a question regarding financial aid... has anyone received their official package yet? cause i submitted all my info about 5 weeks ago but haven't heard anything back. getting a little worried cause school starts in a little over a month!

btw. because you guys care dearly about my life already ^^ i just got back from backpacking in italy and it was awesome! (hence the lack of posting as of late) ok. that is all.

the transistion idea is really funny, i hadn't thought of that. well i will start - my real name is Luu, lulubean was a nickname i got during college. so if you see me on campus, say hi. ;) anyone else care to come out of the sdn closet?

as for financial aid, did you at least get an estimate mailed to you? that's all i have received so far - still waiting for the official word...any...day...now...

btw, i just got back from italy (rome) yesterday! did a quick 2 week tour of paris-nice-florence-rome. absolutely lovely. where in italy did you visit?

Yeah, it will be so cool to meet everyone in person! I already know a handful of our classmates from undergrad. At the Phi Beta Kappa ceremony, we had to announce our name and future plans, and there were four of us who will be attending UCLA. :D

I haven't gotten anything on financial aid yet ... only an estimate (which I asked for and received by e-mail).

Oh, good news. My name is now on the medical school housing list, so I should be receiving an offer sometime next week.

Hey all,

funny, for some reason my computer kept showing the thread as having no new posts... i'll have to check more compulsively from now on (:

Luu, i'll come out of the sdn closet with ya ^^ my name is Won. As for Italy, man i went all over. Started out in london, england... then went to verona, rome, siena, san gimignano, pisa, florence, venice, assisi, amalfi coast, island of capri, naples, palermo and agrigento. It was friggin amazing. i'll prolly show you guys pics on those nites when we're supposed to be studying but arent...

hmm... i should ask for an estimate too.

Hey current UCLA med students~ about the car thing. i was talking to a MSII at ucla and he said that since we get sent out to hospitals starting year 1 it's a good idea to have a car, and that he doesn't really know anyone that doesn't have one. Is that an accurate assessment do you think? cause personally i'd rather wait on purchasing one myself... but if it's going to interfere with med school stuff then it's a no brainer... any advice is much appreciated :p

skreenin, you can ask for an estimate from Gloria. Her e-mail address is GPinedo@mednet.ucla.edu.

I just got my housing offer today! It is a two bedroom apartment. That's weird that everyone on SDN has reported that their lease ends on 5/31. Mine ends in late June.

Just like every great superhero before me, I prefer to keep my SDN identity hidden. That is, until that fateful day we all meet on Aug. 1.

Hey all, I've been SDN-MIA for a while. I'm just trying to live it up here in Northern California.

As for housing, I just received my assignment not too long ago. I'll be in a regular two bedroom at Weyburn.

Did you guys call Weyburn about the underground parking already?

Keep me updated folks.

Hey guys,
I too have been trying to enjoy my last days as a Nor-Cal girl. It's so weird that this time next month I'll be in socal for the next four years. I just got Weyburn too, 2bedroom. Seems like it is the popular assignment. My lease goes to 6/30 if that means anything. Though my move-in is 7/30 so I guess I will just have an intense move-in right before orientation. I called the office and looks like I will have to miss my friends rehearsal dinner afterall, that friday Aug 5 from 3-5 is our white coat ceremony! So tell all of your friends and family to save the date. As for transitions from our aliases, mine is a no brainer, my name's Jen.

Hey Ty,
I have a couple questions for you. First, what is the typical schedule like for I dunno, lets say a week? Also do you know how these selectives work? How many can you take at a time or I guess how many should you take? And how hard are they to get into? They also mention a research one, do you know of a good site to scroll through faculty research? Ok i better stop. Sorry for the bombardment, thanks!

1. typical schedule for the first 3 blocks is as follows. mondays 8-12, tues-thursday 10-3:00/4:30, friday 8-12.
2. YOU GUYS WILL GET FREE FOOD FROM STUDNET INTEREST GROUP MEETINGS FOR THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF SCHOOL EVERYDAY!! LOOK FOR THEM.
3. You can take 1 or more. There are year-long and block-long selectives. You can get into any of them as long as there is room (you only need to qualify/take a placement test for Spanish). I suggest you take just 1 block-long selective that interests you. You want to avoid classes that make you do term papers (14 pages+). Most others have no homework...ask the second years when you get here which ones were fun and easy. Another easy one is the year-long Salvation army selective if you like helping homeless, etc. It's very easy to complete.
4. Research selective: that one sounds good, except for time. I am not sure how much time you would have to do research. most of us had trouble just doing simple selectives that met once/week. the thing is that you want to use your free time to go to the gym, out drinking, seeing friends, finding girls/boys, going to the beach, cleaning, shopping, cooking, etc. but, you could do research with anyone you want. start by looking at different departments and who you want to work with.
there is a faculy research page...ill try to find it and post for you. otherwise, you can just use google and the website search box itself.

hope this is helpful. ask me more Qs

yes: doctoring, preceptor 1/month, salvation army clinic on saturday, mobile clinic every wednesday, selective, visits (block 3 medicine and surgery, geriatrics, pediatrics, our house/mourning), shadowing opportunities through interest groups, you can email any doctor and they will take you on, etc.

hey guys, i was wondering if you guys like to party!
knowing that curriculum is going to be super easy, i wanted to get the tone set from now... any takers?

you will have a very diverse class...from surfers, to singers, to nerds, of all ages, drinkers, cig and other smokers, nice people, aholes, etc.
with the curriculum, you can party hard and not study at all for the first month of the block, but then it gets more serious the second month. the night after finals is always fun.
make sure you go to all the orientation week socials, the catalina trip, and the formal. the catalina trip is lots of fun...especially if you drink. hopefully you will have a good social chair.
the best thing to do, however, is to study about 2-3 hours per day (the lectures of that day) and then go to the gym, then go out and party hardy or sleep before the next day.
beware of pbl learning issues. you will start out taking a long time to do them, but really you shouldnt...its a waste of time beyond 3 hours.
i suggest attending ALL lectures and labs. but if labs are a waste of time for you, minimize the time you are in there. but go for sure to everything. they will be more strict on attendance for you guys.
thats all for now. ask me more.

Hey everyone, I'm looking forward to meeting you all at orientation. This is my first post ever here--I just found this thread.

Having just gotten the packet of info with the list of text books and spoken with a couple of med-student-buddies at various schools, I'm wondering--think we really need all those text books? TY06, did you use all the textbooks that were required for you, and are there any you'd recommend as additional resources for us incoming first years? What do the rest of you think? Anyway, I'm off to enjoy the holiday. Happy 4th of July to all of you!

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY any books yet. you should buy robbins pathology, but thats it. maybe the genetics in medicine book. others are worthless. you should wait to buy it from us (second and third years) for a much cheaper price. save your money and buy review books you could use for the boards.
EVERYTHING THAT WILL BE TESTED IS IN THE NOTES AND IN THE NOTES ONLY. very few instances will be from the book, but on the final exam that counts, they will only ask you big concepts covered in LECTURE. trust me.

most stay here and do research because we get paid almost 4K. there are international opportunities, but whatever you do, is up to you. you need to take the initiative to find the opportunity, whether its staying at ucla or going abroad. sadly, besides giving you money (which is great), the school doesnt help you with acutally finding anything.

Hey Gutye,
I got off the waitlist in early June. I pretty much left the admissions office alone. Besides I was finishing school and I don't live in the area so it was hard to bug them. What I did was send them a letter of intent telling them how much I wanted to go and why. This I sent right after I got my waitlist letter in March. I then sent them an update letter in early May to let them know what I had been up to, showing them that I was still productive. Other than that I just called to make sure they received my letters and then waited. I hope that this helps, good luck!

on a more serious note. i received an email from gloria (i requested a fin aid estimate) and she said that they're not doing estimates anymore because they're going to start sending out the finalized fin aid packages towards the end of this week. she said just to make sure all our forms are in line and have been confirmed as received so that we get our packages on time.

i freaked out cuz URSA said my application was missing several documents but was referred to the site above instead.

they dont. sometimes they send a reminder email. yea it sucks that they just put it up. and your expected to check online.

honestly though, i dont think its due till at least one month into school. you should find out. i know online it says by july 20th, but i didnt pay by then and i didnt till much much later. i didnt get late charges. check out what the real scoop is.

UCLAstudent
07-14-2005, 09:45 PM
Yeah, that is what I meant by July 20th. I received this response from the UCLA SoM financial aid office:

"First of all, there is no need to stress - our application database is separate from URSA, thus it will always show incomplete" and "Here at UCLA fees are posted ahead of time - something you will have to get used to because we are on the semester system, whereas UCLA (undergraduates) is on the quarter system."

So, that's reassuring. I e-mailed again and said that someone I know was told by the BAR account office that the fee is due by July 20th ... I'll post the response when I get it. I don't think we have anything to worry about.

skreenin

Okay, here's the response I got:

"What is correct is...the July 20 deadline is for paying the bill with a credit card or personal check. You can wait and let financial aid disburse (first week of August) and pay the bill without a late fee. The only time you will get a late fee is if you try to pay a portion or all of the bill with a credit card or personal check after July 20."

Catalina should be fun guys. Who's down for some kayaking?

I'll be moving in Weyburn on the 28th guys. I'm new to Westwood so I'll definitely need a tour guide.

Also skreenin, did you get your actual room assignment already?

Kayaking sounds awesome ... ^^

i haven't gotten an actual room assignment yet kownell... i guess we'll get them when we check in~ i hope we're all in the same building, that'll be so cool :D

Hey guys,
I'm definitely down for Catalina. I haven't heard from Weyburn either, I move in the 30th. Won, did you find out who your roommate was at least? I kinda want to coordinate with mine before I move in. I might also beg you to describe your place so I know how much lighting and such I need to bring. I can't believe were less than 2 weeks away from meeting! Also has anyone heard from Financial Aid?

After a nearly fifteen minute wait on the phone, I found out that I'll be living in suite 41#. Any other takers for the 4th floor? However, I forgot to ask who my roomate is going to be. I hopes he's one cool-cat.

For those of you who REALLY want to know about your housing assignment I think the ASK UCLA housing website might be a better option to use rather than waiting on the phone. That is unless, you're doing something constructive while waiting on the phone like watching the Maury Povich show or Celebrity Justice. :D

Congrats DoctorMohandes! The catalina trip is a day trip on aug 13th where the 1st and 2nd year students go out to chill and bond and stuff. If you don't get the email with the info soon, jus PM me or any of us and we can fwd it ^^.

Jen: I'll try and take some pics or something and post them on this forum or link them here if my internet works when I get there.

lulu: so far (of this forum) i think it's just you and me this friday. ahhh!!! anyone else? once i get some of my stuff in the room i'll run around knocking on everyone's doors with a "poor med student: feed me" sign or something...

bb88, I'm glad you picked UCLA. :)

I'll be in Westwood a few days before orientation if you guys want to meet for coffee or something.

Thanks uclastudent, I can't believe how time has flown since we were talking about getting in, at that rate we're gonna be graduating in no time lol

How's it going guys? I've been MIA for a while (in MIA actually haha), but I'm getting more and more excited to meet you all. It sounds like we're gonna have an awesome class. A few posts back I thought it would be cool for us to get together in the days before orientation, and it sounds like some of you want to (ucla student, lulu, jen, hope I got everyone). So let's do it, coffee or maloney's were mentioned, I'm down for either. I'm guessing it'll be best the weekend before b/c it seems the most people will be around then.

If you guys want, you can PM me your cell #s, AIM names, etc, I can make a list and send it to everyone (if you don't want to post them here). It'll probably make it easier to get in touch that way since we'll all be doing our own things as we move in.

And Kownell (or anyone else that is new): I'd also be happy to show you around or help you out in any way since I'm from here.

Ditto

UCLAstudent... anything you can tell us about setting up internet at weyburn/ucla dorms in general? since we've already signed the terms of use form for campus network access, do you think we can just plug in and get online? or should we expect to have to wait till aug 1st?

UCLAstudent
07-20-2005, 06:28 PM
skreenin, I am pretty sure that we'll be able to get online when we get there. That's how it was in the dorms.

There are also a ton of libraries and computer labs on campus where you can get online. Some require your BOL ID, while others don't.

yo again. would one of you guys mind forwarding me the email about catalina, and any other emails you received after you got in, cause i get the feeling im pretty much expected to play catch up with everything in this last week, and the student affairs office ppl weren't too friendly today when i went in. anyway, id really appreciate it if someone could do this for me. getting together before school starts sounds great.... maloneys would be cool, but i dont know if it will be as great as it gets when school starts cause not a lot of kids start till late september. q's or cabo cantin have really awesome happy hours and are pretty chill places to hang out, etc but either way, im in... i'll pm my info.

Hey guys,
Just got my housing assignment and roommate info. I'm in Cypress Court (don't get any ideas about booby trapping my room Won). I haven't had a chance to talk to my roomie yet (none of you happen to be named Stacie by any chance) but the prospect is exciting. It's all coming together! Like I said I get in the 30th so Maloneys or coffee works great for me.

i'm definitely up for a get-together! i'm moving into my apartment this friday, so i'll be up for anything after that. after all, we gotta do something to enjoy our last week of summer... (where did the time go?)

anyone hear anything else about parking yet (besides the email we got on it?)

Sweet~ thanks uclastudent. berkeley was pretty chaotic and we had to register our ethernet cards and go to a residential computing session before we got online... i'm glad ucla is more chill about it.

you're in cypress jen? aw hm... here's a site plan of weyburn i found on google

http://www.housing.ucla.edu/housing_site/news/WeyburnSitePlan.pdf

Aloe and Cyprus are right next to each other... but i guess we're not all in the same building. ah well. i'm sure with only 120 of us taking the same classes we'll see enough of each other as it is

i'm excited.

actually, i'm kinda at that nervous antsy phase right now.

oh, just curious, is anyone signing up for a campus meal plan?

and i'm totally down for coffee or whatever.

(decaf for me *nervous twitch* :scared: )

Hey, anyone looking for an apartment? Weyburns about $825 + parking but I found a sweet place that would b $900 a month (including parking). Its a wonderful penthouse with views of the Getty Center from the living room and terrace/balcony.

The place is two bedroom, My sis and I would share one, and you would get your own spacious bedroom which includes an attached bathroom and walk-in closet. Its an amazing apartment on Ophir and Vetran. Done up well marble and high high ceilings and stuff.

If your interested or just want more info please PM ASAP. Or if you know anyone else looking for a roomie please let me know. I just got off the waitlist and started scrambling around purty late.

Oh and we are also very nice  hehe See you all in what....10 days! :)

Now I'm really curious about my Weyburn building! I used the Ask Housing thingie and was told that they're mailing out that information (as well as roommate contact info, how to get keys, etc.) any day now. :D

mangos, that place sounds great! And it's pretty close to Weyburn, so you can visit us! :)

skreenin, I didn't know they offered a campus meal plan to medical students. If it requires going to the dorms to eat, don't bother. It would be a 20-minute walk each way.

hey hey. so i just checked out the weyburn terrace, and the bedrooms are just a tad bit small for me (im a small guy, but i take up a lot of room) so im gonna try to find an apartment in the next week. are any one of you guys still looking for apartments and looking for a roommate? im neat and pretty chill, so let me know. also, about this get together thing... i know we dont know each other at all and stuff, so im thinking......we need to get drunk. the whole coffee thing sounds great, once we get to know eachother, but i really feel drinking is the solution to creating a more relaxed environment. :D so i suggest maloneys, qs, busby's, cabo cantine, brew co, etc.

What up everyone,

Got some of your guys' info, I'll wait another day or two to see if anyone wants to add, and I'll send it out. I forgot to mention, but emails and/or WT room numbers might be good to if you didn't already include it.

And I agree, Cabo Cantina/Q's is very fun, and having a drink--or three--does make it better lol. But it's still cool for those that don't as well.

BTW, are any of us 1st years also living in Weyburn's Palm Court building? I know they threw everyone in there last year, but I haven't heard of anyone being assigned to it now. Any info?
