Hey guys,
I have the opportunity to do all of my core rotations at Riverview hospital in Detroit. It's affiliated with Wayne State U in Michigan. It seems like a great place to go for rotations.

I am a DO student at Western U in So cal and my rotations are scattered throughout the area. I'm wondering if it might be worth it to train at a great hospital in someplace new.

Anyone know anything about this place?

Thanks!

One of my friends ended up doing his clinical years at Riverview and I visited the place. It looks like a great place to learn. You are dealing primarily w/ the uninsured/indigent population of D-town. So you see a lot of good pathology and get to do a lot of procedures. My buddy use to hang out in their ED which is small, and doesn't accept 911 ambulances but he still got to do a ton of central lines and even a chest tube or two. Fancy. Bad parts about the hospital is that it is small and Detriot isn't the funnest city on earth (the hospital is very close to a couple of projects). But then you get to see a lot and do a lot also while over there. Plus 8 mile was one sweet @ss movie. One last thing for you to think about before you leave Sunny So Cal is that it snows in Michigan. Also realize that if you decide to stay in MI for residency, their allo programs are not allowed to train you unless you do your rotating internship first (its one of the 5 states-sucks!).
