Hi everyone,

I am a Malaysia graduated doctor. I wish to undergo my postgraduate program in oversea, especially in Australia.
Do I need to work there first by taking the entry exam from AMA ?
IF so, what is the passing rate averagely, as compare with PLAB and when is the best time to take the exam?
Afterall, what is the success rate you think I can get a job in Australia?
Any different if I am a oversea student and PR in applying for postgraduate program? What is the success rate to apply for the postgraduate program there and how much should I pay? How about the compatitiveness as compare to UK?
What factors determine the success of getting a job and apply for postgraduate program, eg: help from the head of department?
Sorry for the that many questions. I think many others would like to know too. ANyone if you hold a clue to anyone of above question or you know where to 'ask', please post your thread, thanks.

Hi, Zeus,

That's a lot of question, im afraid i cant answer them all... im a 5th year medical student, and im also thinking of going melbourne for future training.. masters/PhD or something... i only know how melbourne universities work.. so...

But as far as i know... you do still need to sit exams to practice and to get into any postgraduate training course you need to have worked in a university affiliated hospital for at least 2 years... (thus you need to get registered there first anyway)...

Compared to UK, im sure the chance of getting a job in australia is higher... and at the moment.. australia is lacking a lot of rural doctors from what i've heard from my friends...

You can obtain more information on universities by directly contacting them.. or look at the course information online for these universities.. they usually have all the information you need...

Another place worth looking at the australia medical association.. www.ama.com.au... they have specific guidelines for overseas doctors.. or u can just e-mail them for advice i guess..

hope that helps :)
