After you submitted out your LOR for the Match, if you didn't macth and have to scramble or postmatch, the unfilled programs usually require you to submit or fax the lor, how many copies we need to ask the writer to prepare then? also, if waived the right to see the letter, how can you fax in postmatch? sounds silly question, but I am curious and will be grateful if someone can give me some idea so I know what I should do for my 2006 Match. Thanks a lot!!

If you register for the NRMP and fail to match, you should then be eligible for the Scramble with ECFMG serving as your Dean's office. They will send the materials for you and you needn't prepare extra copies. However, should you wish to sign out of the match or scramble, you will have to the letter writer forward a copy of his letter to the specific program rather than sending it yourself.

1. ERAS still has the LORs during the scramble. You can submit your application the same way as in the match and the programs can download everything including the LORs.

2. Most likely your question is about the application that you send yourself because of the 30-program ERAS limit. In this case you can submit LOR writer names, titles and contact info with your application.

3. If you do 1 and 2 just keep about 5 unused "ERAS lives" for the programs that you contacted outside of ERAS, which want to see the LORs right away.

Hopefully you don't have to do any of the above by just matching.
