View Full Version : NBME Forms 1/2 and Step 1 Correlations List
Pox in a box 06-08-2005, 01:05 PM Post your NBME Forms 1/2 and Step 1 Exam Correlations here. Other threads are available for other discussion on these exams.
Follow this format:
3 digit score of NBME Form 1 (Projected Step 1 Score), Date; 3 digit score of NBME Form 2 (Projected Score), Date; Step 1 3-digit score (2-digit score); Date of Exam
Example (I made the numbers up):
NBME Form 1: 500 (220), May 10, 2005
NBME Form 2: 506 (225), May 30, 2005
Step 1: 235 (89), June 2, 2005
viper 06-08-2005, 01:47 PM Great idea thanks. Can you also indicate if you were done studying whne you took #1, etc. to give an idea of when in your memorizing frenzy you took those exams. That will give a better idea of that correlation.
Thanks
razorback831 06-09-2005, 11:03 AM form 1: 570

dividedsky 06-12-2005, 08:59 AM NBME 1: 540
NBME 2: 560
Step 1: 240/97
NBME 1: 540
NBME 2: 560
Step 1: 240/97
Im noticing the form 1 scores are a bit lower for everyone so far. is that because you are taking form 1 earlier in your studying or because it is the harder of the two forms? Which form is harder? I would like to take the harder form first, and then the easier one later to boost my confidence :)
Form 1: 540
Form 2: 580
Step 1: 239/97
jojo14 06-12-2005, 12:59 PM NBME 1: 540

Congratulations dividedsky! :D

I though they were of equal difficulty level, its just I took one 1 week before the other, and hadn't hit some topics yet. Also, I was more acclimated to taking the exam the second time around.

Thats sick. Hate to say that you might be one of the few who's NBME overpredicts your exam score ;)
I know a couple of people have recently gotten their scores back so I thought I would bump this up
Pox in a box 07-19-2005, 05:18 AM Bump for Wednesday.

This is why I tell people to take the NBME not to predict your score, but to find weak areas to focus your finite amount of study time.
WISC-ite 07-20-2005, 02:06 PM Here are mine.
NBME #1: 500/230 (6/18)
NBME #2: 600/240 (6/6)
USMLE Step 1: 244 (7/20)
I took #2 first as I had heard it was harder and I didn't want a downer just before the exam... I actually thought Form #2 was more forgiving and more like the actual exam. I would pay the $90 bucks again as it gave me a good focus in areas that I was weak in and it helped me along the study path as they were mini-goals along the way.
I would tell myself "three more days until the NBME #2 test... keep pushing." Then I would finish the Form exam and take the rest of the day off... then spend the next day reviewing the test. I also liked knowing what my baseline was as I layed in bed the night before thinking "well, just don't drop an egg tomorrow and everything will be fine."
Good luck to all,
WISC-ite
PS KEEP POSTING... I think it really helps people out the following year!
Bounty 07-20-2005, 04:03 PM Just posting because I remember how much I wanted to see correlations...
Form 1 (about 2 and half weeks before): 620 (244)
Form 2 (4 days before): 700 (256)
USMLE: 256(99)
I agree with Wisc-ite - the second form was more like the exam. I think the exam was very forgiving so it's okay if it feels like you got a lot of questions wrong.
kcumbDO 07-20-2005, 04:41 PM NBME form 1= 610 (projected 242)
NBME form 2= 630 (projected 245)
USMLE Step 1 (June 1st, 2005)= 246/99 :D
I guess there is a correlation.
omarsaleh66 07-20-2005, 05:04 PM USMLE 233

I got my scores on 7/21/05 from my school's office of the registrar.
Studied 8-11 hours a day for 4.5 wks (started at 8, worked up to 11 as test date approached). Took one weekend off for a wedding. Studied:
First Aid 2005
BRS Path
BRS Phys
BRS Human Behavior
HY Embryo
BRS Pharm Flashcards
My home school Micro Director's wicked USMLE prep slides
Best advice I can offer: Nothing beats working hard your first 2 years. It is infinitely easier to review than to learn for the first time.

lattimer13 07-24-2005, 10:45 AM i took NMBE form A only and my actual Step 1 score was +1 point higher. very accurate predictor for me. very happy with my score.
bigfrank 07-24-2005, 12:24 PM Congrats on all these wonderful scores!!!
As usual, those NBME exams (#1/#2) are excellent correlators for most people.
MCAT 27
Form 1 610 (242) 1 1/2 week out
Form 2 600 (240) 4 days out
Step 1 USMLE 246/99
Like many other people have said, work hard the first two years of medical school, it will pay off. I had many questions that were not in any HY, BRS, or First Aid, but were just acquired from taking school seriously.
SurgONC 07-24-2005, 05:06 PM MCAT 26 :(
Form 1 580 (236) 2 days before step 1
Form 2 530 (226) 13 days before step 1
:hardy: :D Step 1 USMLE 230/93 :D
Several month before I started studying I set a goal of exactly 230! It feels great to reach my goal!

USMLE Step 1 6/9/05 237

kcumbDO 07-25-2005, 09:10 AM NBME 1= 610>242

Really wanted to chase that 230+. Oh well, I will have to live with it.
NBME 1: 198 (2 weeks before)
USMLE Step 1: 228/92
I absolutely understand. I was pretty disappointed with my score, since I was really hoping to top 230, and especially after nearly 2 months of 10 hours/day studying! I am planning on neurosurgery, so this kinda freaks me out. Oh well, standardized test scores have never been the strongest part of any of my applications. :(
By the way, has everyone noticed that it's only the fabulous scores that are being listed! Incredible! I guess if you did well, you want everybody to know about it, but jeez people, I think if we are truly trying to help each other out (doubtful), we should not just have representation of the people who just happen to be great test-takers. Let's see some regular scores out there, too!
pillowhead 07-26-2005, 04:26 PM NBME #1 taken 6/12 600/240
NBME #2 taken 6/15 650/248
Real thing on 6/23 253/99
Despite the power outage on the day of my exam, it looks like all ended well. I'm very happy having broken the 250 mark. As others have said, no amount of cramming in the end will get you a high score if you totally slack during the first two years. I was surprised as to how few questions I could answer directly due to boards studying.
Thanks SDNers for all your help!
Form 1 - 610/242 (12 days before)
Step 1 - 248/99
Really, really, really wanted a 250, but still happy with the 99 two digit, cant really complain.
NBME 1: 600 (3 weeks before)
NBME 2: 800 (4 days before)
Step 1: 269/99
I guess correlates with NBME 2 for me.
tatabox80 07-29-2005, 01:12 PM NBME 1: 600 (3 weeks before)
NBME 2: 800 (4 days before)
Step 1: 269/99
