Is anyone applying here? I'm trying to find when the application process begins on their website but I can only find out about 2005, which means it must not have began yet.

Do they use the PharmCAS site? I couldn't find this school on the PharmCAS, unless I'm just missing it.

I don't think my school will be utilizing PharmCAS again next year, so you won't find info on pharmcas.org. The application for Fall 2006 will be found on the USN website sometime this coming September (don't know the actual date), with a deadline for submission of the completed application on 1/12/06.

Is it difficult to get into USN? Do they mainly take Nevada residents or not? I saw that the PCAT wasn't required and they don't want any letters of recommendation. My science pre-req gap is around 3.3 or 3.4, but my overall gpa isn't as high because i have a bs in an unrelated field from when i was about 10 years younger. I also work as a drug clerk in a pharmacy. Do you think that will help?

Thanks

USN is private school, the cost is 30k per year and you have to get your own personal loan, you can't get federal loans....it's kind of sux, only good thing is that they have three years program, and also whatever you courses you took within the last five years counts...so let say courses from 2000 wouldn't count only if you want to go with academic forgiveness....I'll apply in the fall as well, but hopefully I will get into other school where I can get federal loans, I think the rate is much less than personal loan....just thought I share this with you and yes their appl wont be up until Oct

USN is very competitive. GPA is EXTREMELY important there. I think that is what they mainly look at to get an interview. If you have a 4 year degree that only accounts for 1 point out of like 70 or 80 points points. Science GPA is worth 35 points and overall GPA is worth a little less. Correct me if I am wrong LVPharm:) If you have prereq classes that need to be completed, then they subtract 1/2 a point for each class.

Talk to Dr. DeYoung about their straight forward point system.

I love this school and it is my first choice (and the only school that I will be applying to in the fall). LVPharm is correct in that the application cycle begins in Sept. and interviews start in Jan. (see website).

They do not require an essay or letters of recommendation or PCAT. They just want to see academic transcripts.

I am curious what the GPA's are from people that were granted an interviews.

Good luck and I hope this has helped.

Any of you current students have the latest stats? I'm just trying to remember how last year's application cycle went. I think it was around 1100 applicants, about 400 interviews, for how many seats? ~110?

I applied and was accepted to USN last year and would have gone there if I didn't get into my top choice. I really liked what I saw there at the school. Dr. DeYoung was first class, a very helpful and open man. I hated the cost of housing in Vegas which helped push it down my wish list.

At the time I went through the interview process, they had a 96 pt scale. It was made up of the following:
Science GPA * 7, Total 28 pts. Poss.
Overall GPA * 7, total 28 pts poss.
The essay we wrote at the interview was worth 5 pts.
The interview score was worth 35.

They would score everyone coming in that way and then start at the highest score and start inviting until they were full. If you got a high enough score, they would invite you to come within a week or two.

I really liked this because they were the only school I applied to that basically would tell you the breakdown of what you needed to do to get in, and it seemed very fair to me.

They may have changed their scoring system since then, I do not know, but with Dr. DeYoung still there whatever they are doing will be very fair.

Good question, and I will say yes. Lately around school it has been no fun at times, but MWU being at the top of my list had a lot to do with location and keeping me here where my family wanted to stay. Wages for my wifes job are significantly higher here along with family support for her. That has been nice since I see you more than her now.

When I came home today after our test my baby son looked at me like I was a stranger. This quarter is going to be a killer. I look forward to rotations next qtr. so I can spend some time at home again.

I'm thinking about asking USN to do the academic forgiveness for me. The only thing though is that I would have to take Calculus and College Writing over again because I took them over 5 years ago. But if they only consider grades from 2001 to 2006, then they'll only be looking the courses I've taken since I've gone back to school which all have good grades. I'm not too crazy about taking Calculus again though. I remember that course taking a ton of work the first time.

My advise would be to apply with academic forgiveness and if you get accepted, take Calc and Writing the summer before you go to USN. This way if you get a C in Calc (during the summer after you're interview), it won't hurt your GPA in February (at your interview). And if you don't get accepted you don't have to take these classes. If you are accepted you only need to get a C or better in your remaining classes (in your case Calc and Writing). Getting a C in Calculus at a CC is fairly easy especially if you can use the TI-92. Good luck.

GPA is not everything. A well-rounded pharmacist isn't someone who has a 3.9GPA and plays by the book on every call. A well-rounded pharmacist is competent and versatile...a 3.9 GPA doesn't mean you are either of those things. For those of you with the lower GPA, don't fret! Many great schools like UCSF or UOP accept students with lower GPAs because these students have qualities that can make them great pharmacists. =)

UCSF and UCSD are 4 year schools. I have not applied to either of them.

UCSD requires pharmacy experience, I have none. Perhaps, I can get in, but still it is a 4-year school. That year makes all the difference.

UCSF is in a very expensive place. I don't think I can afford just the cost of living in San Francisco, with a tiny 1-bedroom at about $2000-2500 a month.

Just got my phone call from dr Deyoung and I am in as well. Anyone interested I interviewed on Jan 26, overall gpa 3.69, sci 3.62, no Bachelors, and completed prerequisites. I had to use the academic forgiveness policy because my early college grades were extremely sub par(before interest in pharmacy). I would grade my interview performance as mediocre, and didn't feel at all like I nailed it. Hope those stats give some of you guys hope. I know that I felt intimidated going up against 4.0's w/prior degrees. Good luck to all the interviewees to come. Dr Deyoung told me that there is still plenty of seats available at both campuses.

Hi,
I think I interviewed right before you, if your name is Andy--saw an Andy on the roster of those interviewed on 1-26. Congratulations on your acceptance. USN was my 3rd choice UNTIL I interviewed, it quickly became my 1st choice and I am so hoping to get a call from Dr. DeYoung. I'm like you, I thought my interview went maybe a little above average. Keeping my fingers crossed I get in as I loved everything about the school, staff, faculty, students. I was pretty impressed.
Oh btw I'm posting under my mom's name, I'm not quite that old :)

I'm not Ryan, I'm Ellen and I interviewed with Dr Deyoung too. Were you as impressed with the school as I was? I assume you'll be going to the Nevada school since you're from Arizona. I'm a few more miles away (Missouri). Well congrats again, and keep your fingers crossed for me. :)

Hey Asia, I got a call from Dr. Deyoung today, too. But i don't know which campus to choose now. Why did you choose Utah campus?? what's good and bad about it??? I'm so un-decided.

Utah will simply be a better fit for me and my husband, plus, I really hate the desert . The campuses are comparable - brand new buildings etc. but the Utah one is smaller, I think they're accepting only about 80 people, which works for me, too. SLC will probably be a little bit less expensive to live in but from my research you should be able to rent a 2-br appartment in either city for $700-800.

Check out the last year's threads, there were many posts on this topic. And most importantly, do the research on your own to decide what will work for you, www.city-data.com (http://www.city-data.com) is a great source of information.

Good luck!

Hello, I just received the call as well, so I thought it was time that I started posting. Dr Deyoung called me last night around 8:00pm.

Here are my stats:
Culmulative GPA: 3.93
Pre-req GPA: 4.00
BS in Zoology
Pharmacy experience: shadowing
volunteer experience at a wildlife rehabilitation center
leadership experience/extra curriculars: vice president of Oregon State University Mountain Club for a year, secretary for another year, and recruitment officer for another year

I was interviewed by Dr. Ziance and Deyoung said that he really liked my responses to the questions I was asked. I, too, felt that the interview went well.

I hope this information is useful to someone!

EDIT: I suppose I should add that I was interviewed on Feb 5th.

Our group who interviewed on Jan 26 was told approx 550 interviews for a total of 220 spots (80 at Utah and 140 at Nevada). Last Year they took a handful more at each campus. It was something like 146 in NV and 84 in UT

Well, I am sure that the interview is very crucial, similarly to any other school...But it seems like in order to get the interview invite you need a good GPA, and BS also helps....
If they interview ~500 candidates and ~200-220 is admitted then about 40% gets in , right.

220/550 = approx 40% Dont forget they usually go deep into the waiting list. Last year Dr Deyoung said they went about 80 spots deep into the waiting list. Which increases your chances to 54.54% (220 total spots +80 spots into waiting list divided by total # of seats 550). Bottom line is if you get an interview you have about a 50/50 chance of acceptance. Admission has mostly to do with GPA to get an interview, but from there your interview is scored on a points system and added to GPA score. Your total score is ranked and listed. They start at the top of the list and work their way down until the classes are filled.

I wasn't sure if i would get accepted bc i am only 19 years old, and I don't even have a bachelors degree, this is only my second year in college, and I also completed all my classes at a community college. When i got my acceptance call from Dr. DeYoung he told me to just finish my classes and I am all set to go, i still have 3 more classes to take. so i am not sure if having a bachelors really decides if ur in or not, my stats where a 3.81 overall gpa and a 3.9 science gpa

I interview saturday feb. 9th and i heard the good news from DeYoung on Monday feb. 18th. I decided to go to the Henderson campus as of now but DeYoung told me that if I change my mind I have about a month or so to do i that. I haven't seen the Utah campus and I don't really want to be in the cold anymore bc I live in Michigan and i want some nice weather. Also one of the pharmacists i work with used to live in Salt Lake City so i was going to talk to her about it and see how she liked the area, there is still a slight chance that i might change my mind!

did u apply here and have u heard anything yet?

I also interviewed on 1-26. I felt my interview went well but still no call. I interviewed with Dr. Deyoung and 2 students. They made me feel so comfortable and I felt like, while my interview wasn't a ringer, it went very well. I loved the atmosphere and think I would really like the block system and Henderson. I'm 20 and in my second yr of college. Will finish all but one pre-req which I'm taking this summer. 3.78 GPA and 3.9 science GPA. Like I said in an earlier post, USN became my 1st choice after my interview. I was hoping they'd be as impressed with me as I was with them. I'm not giving up hope but was hoping for the call after I saw so many others were getting called. There's still time and I'm being optimistic. :) :) :) Good Luck.

Well the reality is, that most people drop atleast 1 course... as long as you dont have a page full of "W"'s, you should be ok.
there is another thing to look at here, the fact that you are droping, what is possibly the most important class of pre-pharmacy doesnt look good. If you are stuggling with this class just know that O-chem II does not get easier. Try harder if you can and stay in it, if at all possible. But if you think you are gonna do bad, just let it go, and have a good reason if/when you ever get an interview.
good luck!

It seems Dr. DeYoung was a little bit ambiguous in his calls. In all the instances I know of he stated that the interviewer believes you are a strong candidate, asked about the campus preference, told "You got it!" when the campus was named, but stopped short of the outright statement "you have been admitted." Also, I understand there is a delay with mailing the admission packages. Does anyone know more about it ?

I have a 3.59 overall gpa and a 3.7 pre-req gpa, but still haven't gotten an interview.

I'm taking OChem II, Microbiology, and Calc I right now. They are the last prereqs that I have to finish up.

I promised myself that if I don't get an interview by april and if I'm not getting an A in OChem II, that I will drop the course. If that happens, I'll take it over the summer, so that I can ace it while the information is still fresh.

What do you guys think about this? Thanx in advance for your inputs.

p.s. Half a year ago, I e-mailed Laurie Briggs and she had said that a C/NC or a W doesn't count against me.

I suggest not to drop the class. I was in the same situation last year when i was taking Physio in Spr 07 and waiting for an interview. Right after i dropped the class, i received an invitation from the school, so i didnt take the invitation (!). Then i ended up taking the class again in the summer 07. The bad thing about it was that i didnt know what to write for the quest "what have you done to make yourself a stronger appicant?" on the app cycle starting in fall 07. I couldnt use "finishing the prerequisites" because that was what i put down on my app in fall 06.
So, dont drop it!

I have a 3.61 overall GPA and a 3.65 science gpa.

I had surgery two semesters ago and missed a couple of Microbiology lectures and a lab. I received a C+ in the class. I was wondering if I should retake the microbiology over to improve my science GPA to over a 3.7 and maybe improve my chances of getting into USN. Would USN count both Microbiology grades when I apply?

Well, I am on the same boat. I also have a 3.9 GPA and I am really worried about my interview. I just think that my interview was too short ( like 15 min max), and they really weren't trying to know who I am. They just ask me a few questions, some of them really weird! So, the only thing we can do now is wait. The longer you wait, the lower the cutoff score will be, and since our GPA score should be good, hopefully we'll make it! :o

Good luck!

I faced the same situation as your guys did. Waiting is kind of killing. I was not so happy with my interviewers. I went to a couples of interview this year. I could see the differences. Western U. is the school that gave me the most comfortable interview environment. They asked you questions very friendly and they were very open because they really tried to get to know you.
I felt so nervous during my interview with USN. That's the reason why my interview points are not high enough to be called earlier.

I interviewed with Zarley. The questions all seemed pretty basic and she was pretty cool but a little intense. They asked the usual about why USN, pharmacy, etc. I really didnt feel like they asked anything from the norm. I am guessing that you should probably hear something back next week. We chose Utah also because my wife has family there. The cost of living is fairly comparable as far as i have seen with housing, ect. I would imagine that you should here back from Dr DeYoung in another week or so. The way it happened before is that those that interviewed on 1/26 and 2/9 got calls on 2/18. I wouldnt worry too much just because in our orientation Dr DeYoung said that the first few waves of acceptances come and then a final decision may not occur until April. That is just a guess though. I would anticipate another group of acceptances within the next 2 monday's

See you in SLC at the end of August!:)
My reasons for choosing Utah are very similar (husband has relatives in Idaho) plus it'll be nice to have 4 seasons again. When are you guys planning on moving? For us it'll be mid-August but I'm already doing research on where to live  Both my husband and I are very excited about moving even though I'll probably miss San Diego when the first frost comes...

Hi, I'm in the same boat as you. I interviewed 1-26. The way it kind of looks is that after some interviews the top candidates are called. I can't see that anyone who interviewed on the earlier dates got a call, just he ones since Feb 19 and after. The ones called on 2-18 were from the earlier interview dates. Maybe I'm wrong, and I hope I am. I'm guessing next Monday, 3-3 more calls will be made but maybe only for the last few dates. If that's true we're just going to have to wait, be patient, and stay optimistic. :) What's really scary is the number of people who felt they had sub-par interviews. I thought mine was pretty good but still no call. Let's stay positive and I'm hoping for that call from Dr. Deyoung soon. The wait is soooo hard when you want something so bad. Good luck to you. :):):)

For this whole week, i am so unproductive. I can't do anything; I check sdn whenever i have an access to internet. I have midterms to study for, but it seems like...i will be like this until April! :(

I interviewed on Feb 19th. I got the call today around 4:30pm (pacific time). I know, that's earlier than usual!

Well, I would like to tell you not to worry, but I know how I felt before I got the call. I used to check my cell phone every hour and check this website every 15 minutes to see if they were offering new acceptances. All I can say is that if you guys were confident during your interview, and showed some enthusiasm about the program, you should be fine. I know that some of my answers weren't that smart and that I could have elaborated more on some important questions. In short, I did not do good, but it wasn't that bad either. As long as you really did not blow it, you will probably get in, but it might take some time.
Just be patient. I really hope you all get in!
Good luck

people who think they did horrible during their interview usually do better than all the other applicants. Why, because it shows that you can think under pressure, and that your answers weren't prepped beforehand.

I was interviewed on Feb. 19, and I had the opportunity to talk to one of the adcom members after my interview (because I was waiting for a ride after the interview, and waited so long for my ride that the interview session was literally over). He said I actually did fine, and stated that out of the 5 people in the group, 3 recited stuff off their application, 1 did extremely well, and then their was my interview. The worst interview of my life.......

I told the adcom student that it was the worst interview of my life. The adcom student asked me why I thought my interview was bad. I told him that I couldn't put two sentences together, I couldn't even define professionalism to them. I kept fidgeting and waving my hands while I talked. I said, "um" alot, and kept pausing between words, and what's worse, is that I drank too much water while I was waiting around. The student just laughed and said:

"Everyone is nervous, and most people will hide behind what they wrote on their application in the hopes that it will instill confidence, and that is the wrong move. We are looking for honest answers in a very short time frame, we aren't critiquing how you deliver your answer, because everyone is nervous, but we want to get to know you. We are trying to assess your strengths and your weaknesses. If you had chosen to recite your answers like the other applicants, then we wouldn't have gotten to know you. What I liked about you, is that you came in strong, and it is obvious that you were nervous during the interview, which is normal by the way, but I saw that you were able to grow more confident near the end of the interview, and you took control when you were given the opportunity to ask us questions. So I don't see anything wrong with your interview. You were nervous when you were suppose to be, and you came off strong in the beginning and in the end."

After the interview, I had all but written off USN, because my interview was horrible. Even after talking with the adcom student, I still felt my interview was a joke because i thought it was the standard rhetoric they feed to all the applicants.

Anyways, I was accepted a few days later by USN, and I told Dr. DeYoung that I thought he was kidding:rolleyes:

good luck to all, and hope that my experience will instill more confidence in all of you. I hope to see all of you in the fall.

I would anticipate another group of acceptances within the next 2 monday's

ya what else i can do other than wait...but waiting time getting worst and worst...1 guy got admitted who was interviewed on 2/19 same when i was interviewed so i am so worried........

If you havent heard anything as of yet what I would do is send a thank-you note to those you interviewed with and also to Dr DeYoung. Make it simple and just thank them for the opportunity and are excited to hear back from them in the near future. That would be my best suggestion at this point and it would be fairly cheap to do.

The key to have a successful interview based on my experience is to be confident, honest and be yourself. Don't try to memorize the stuffs because the interview panels can tell and they dont like it. They will get bored if they hear the same things over and over. I was interviewed on Jan 26 and accepted on Feb 19..Good luck to you all!!!!!

Quite rude, weird and domineering... I dared to argue with her on some issues, but my theory that she did it because she just disliked me was wrong, she does it to everybody.

Yes, that's just the way she is: quite abrupt and agressive; so don't take it personal. Her lectures are the best! Very entertaining. It's so sad 'cause Tuesday's our last lecture with her :(

It's good that you argued with her, I think she probably liked that.

I have a 3.94 overall, a 4.0 for the pre-reqs (except calc and physiology which im in now) I will have my BS in biology in Dec 08 (Grad school counts as upper division electives). I just switched to pharm in may and so I have shadowed 4 pharmacists (2 retail, 1 hospital and 1 in clinical research) and also have 12 months of research under my belt (a part of pharm i hope to get into). Hope that helps...Good luck to everyone trying and congrats to all those getting calls.
BTW - do you think USN has the single/married female/male stats for the previous classes? I am leaning toward Henderson because of the weather (i love to road bike), but I would know no one there and am just hoping i could find buddies in my class. Suggestions??

This year interview is out of 40 points (8 catagories, each catagory worths 5 pts, hint: usn is looking for someone who truly loves to be a pharmacist), if you have a score under 23, you'll automatically get rejected....
USN accepts very top candidates within first-2nd week after the initial interview.....and others, they will have to look at all the interviewed candidates again and then give acceptance to the top students.....

I know waiting is hard, but it's just wasted your time if you keep on waiting, so forget all about it and concentrate in your study, because most likely you'll get accepted if you have an interview.... =D and if you happen to get a waiting list status, most likely you'll get accepted too!

Congrats to those already accepted for Fall 08 but is Twinkle Twinkle the only one accepted out of those interviewed on Feb 23rd?

2007 Stats:
Accepted: 227 81 for Utah and the rest, Henderson
Average GPA: 3.6
Accepted from waiting list: more than 50 people (i don't have the exact number)
For this year 2008, I believe that up to 100 people will be placed on the waiting list, Dr. deyoung will let you know if you are top 20, 50, or 100, if you are top 50 or below, almost 100% that you will be accepted (it has been like that for a while), but it is also depend on the application's pool this year as well.
and if you are in the top 100 waiting list applicants, then it's not a guarantee, because Dr. Deyoung won't let you know what # or where you are at (but if you email him, he will let you know how many people are in front of you)! so that will just have to be depended on the people that don't want to go to USN. then your place will boost up each time they reject to attend usn.

=D good luck to all and congrats the those who got accepted! =D hope to see you all next year

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading the forum for a while and wanted to sign in as well. I'm glad that I am not the only one waiting anxiously for the result. I was invited for the interview on Feb. 19th, and I don't know how I did because I was so nervous. At the same time, I don't know what the interviewers were looking for so I just answer all the questions honestly....

Thanks so much for everyone who posted up the stats and everything for the school, it's really helpful. Just like everyone else, i've been checking my email and phone constantly for the past two weeks. It's really sad because I really like USN and would love it if I was granted admissions.

For some of the people who are still waiting for the invitation, I suggest you guys check your Bulk mail very often. I was invited for an interview at the end January and the mail was sent to my Bulk folder. Luckily, I regularly checked my Bulk mail so I was able to reply to the email. If I was like most people who deleted my bulk mail then I will never get to see that invitation. So please do check! This is one of my advice.

Well, I hope to talk to you guys much more in the future. And Good Luck!

I was actually one of the people who applied late January and got the invitation for an interview about 2-3 weeks later, which was really surprising to me still. I thought only people who have really high GPA's were called first.

For those who are wondering, my GPA is around 3.5-3.6 like most of you. So I am really worried about being accepted since GPA is a major factor for USN.

Don't go to the North of Las Vegas, down town, and old Henderson.

Seven Hill is good, otherwise, Southern Highland is ok .

You can go to www.ziprealty.com (http://www.ziprealty.com), to check the price of selling houses in the area and the information around this area so that you can have some ideas about the house you want to rent.

Hope that can help...

All acceptance letters will be sent out by middle of May-end of May
waiting list status: End of May (if you are on top 20, you will get accepted within a few weeks later, i mean during June..:D)
rejections: through out the whole process, but before end of May.

misstofu,
1st of all thanks for all the great info. Here's my dilemma. I've applied to 2 schools, one of them USN. I'm lacking 1 pre-req for USN and one for the other school. If I get rejected by one or both, well then........, however if I get into the other school and USN waitlists me I'll almost have to take the pre-req for the other school. Then if USN would accept me it would be too late to get the pre-req for them. Maybe I'll know more after April as far as where I'm at, hopefully accepted but maybe in top 20 waitlist. Oh how I hope that is IT. I loved USN and although I'm trying to be patient I'm praying for a call from Dr Deyoung. Staying optimistic :):):). Also, does anyone know if USN gives you preference if you apply next year. OK I'm being patient. If I just get the call I'll be FINE. Thanks again. :)

Dr. DeYoung told us at the interview that USN is putting up a forum for upcoming students who are looking for roommates. Does anyone know about the forum?? I am going to Nevada campus.

from I can recall, i believe it will be put up in June or at least when the interviews are over.

misstofu ,
Thanks a lot for all the info you've been providing us. I am very nervous from the waiting process, it's so unbearable :eek:.

I actually emailed Dr. DeYoung and wanted to ask him about the scoring process but he's keeping his lips sealed. I can understand since it's very confidential. He just said that the interview was a big part of the application and the admissions process.

For those who are still waiting, my friend just got an invite for an interview at the end of Mar. or early Apr. so good luck.

So far I can see that these students are part of 2011 class (don't know who has chosen to go to Nevada or to Utah):

misstofu: do you know the stats for class of 2007? How many people were placed on the waiting list and how many from that list were actually accepted?
Congrats to those already accepted for Fall 08 but is Twinkle Twinkle the only one accepted out of those interviewed on Feb 23rd?

On my interview date of jan26 Dr Deyoung told us that the went 80 deep into the wait list last year. Anyone who received acceptance calls get their admissions packet yet?? I think we should be getting them soon ..... I am definitely looking for a room to rent, or a roommate because apartments are freaking expensive up there.

no, I haven't got my admission packet either. I got a call from Dr. deyoung at around 2 p.m on monday, feb 18, and until now I still haven't received the admission packet yet. I don't understand why it takes the school so long to send those out? Are they still working on them or something? I wonder if any of you guys had received the admission papers and filled out your financial aid forms yet??

When I spoke with him, he told me that I should expect the package no later than march 13. If I don't receive it by then, give USN a call.

for those who needs a roommate
this is what you need to do
email Laurie Briggs and ask for a rommate database list!
she will send it to you and it will have your information on there as well as others that need a roommate.

Misstofu, do you know if after every 2 interviews, the school will look at all the interviewees' apps and pick out the top to accept them or they will just pick out the top of those 2 interviews? Thanks

i believe that after each interview, they will pick out the top of the top that is (less than 10 or maybe more) including gpa and smooth interview that they have gone through, not just the interview by itself. because all the grades gotta be added together right?

why can't you take both prereq for both schools? for my case last year, i took many extra classes that I didn't even need! =D i was a full time student in spring semester and working at the same time. and those prereqs were not required either (biochem, stats...ect) but i thought they really helped me in gaining more knowledge, on the other hand I got all A's, so it boosted up my GPA too (in this case it will help you if you were to be placed on a waiting list), and yet, biochem helps so much when i go to USN, without it, i would have fallen behind (don't be nervous if you don't have it, you'll catch up when you get there, but it's just an advantage to have it)! so why not take both.... it helps you know....;)
good luck and i hope to see you here at usn

At most universities and colleges you can take these courses in the summer (both in summer I or one in each summer session). You can definitely get those classes over with by Fall 2008:)

It's an open interview so the interviewers do have your application in front of them during the whole interview. Be ready to answer any questions they may have about anything that you've listed on your application. I was asked about my extra curricular activities. I didn't lie on my application so it's no problem at all answering all their questions. Good luck and hopes that helps :luck:

I was actually one of the people who applied late January and got the invitation for an interview about 2-3 weeks later, which was really surprising to me still. I thought only people who have really high GPA's were called first.

For those who are wondering, my GPA is around 3.5-3.6 like most of you. So I am really worried about being accepted since GPA is a major factor for USN.

My application was also completed in late January, I haven't received a call yet for an interview. Do you have Pharmacy experience. I have the same GPA range like you, but no pharmacy experience, Got the BS also.

Since it's just 2 classes I suggest you just register for the summer at your local community college to save money. Plus I'm assuming that if things don't pan out this year that you'll reapply next year right? Just take those 2 classes this summer and get them out of the way. Most other pharmacy schools require English composition too so it'll just widen your pool next year (let's hope it doesn't come to that!!)

Thanks again misstofu--you've been quite helpful. The classes would be A&P II and physics--so it's possible but would be pretty tough. I like A&P a lot more than physics. LOL--my pray is to receive a call from Dr. Deyoung, but as you've said, no use worrying right now, but it is SO hard, I just really loved Henderson, USN, the people, and the block system seems so up my alley--also do you know if my chances are improved if I don't get accepted to USN this year and apply next year (assuming I don't get accepted at the other school) Thanks again, everyone has been so nice. Keep your fingers crossed by me. :):):)
Oh BTW if i'm not accepted to either school :( I'm going to take A&P II this summer anyway, and probably biochem in the fall, and physics too, just to keep all the doors open.

I agree to that. At the community college in san diego, they had speech as a really short session, maybe 4 weeks, and English comp a little bit longer(8 weeks?).
If you can I suggest doing both classes at the same time because a class like speech, I don't think you should be spending a lot of time for it.
If you start both classes on the same day, then half way thru, you'll have time to go to the beach.:p

:)I will attend USN Henderson campus this August as a P1 student. Can someone please tell me where I can find a nicely quiet place which is closed to school to rent? Anybody needs a roomate as well? I am a nice, friendly, responsible early 30ish guy who studies hard and also enjoys his life...Let me know....:)

I moved to an apartment called Palm Villas. I like it here. It is on Whitney Ranch Dr. and Sunset. It's not even 5 mins. away from USN. I'm not in USN yet, but I moved because I was really determined to get in.
The apartment has 2 pools, a gym, tennis court and is gated. Best of all, you get a garage with each apartment.
If its a 1 or 2 bdrm, you get a 1 car garage or 1 spot in a 2-car garage (I share with the guy that lives next to me.) or with a 3 bdrm you get 2 spaces.
It might be slightly more expensive than what other apartments are asking, but I really like it here.
One plus, I have a puppy and he barks whenever I leave. I apologized to my neighbors for the noise....they didn't even know I had a puppy.

Their website is http://www.gscapartments.com/site/properties/lasvegas/palmvillas

Lemme know what you think

I am pretty sure that you can complete those classes at a community college because money is an important issue. It cost so much to take a class at a university vs. at a Junior college. Also, the professor might not be as good as those at a community colleges. I don't see a problem in that, as long as you completed the course before entering, it should not be a problem.

One of the concern I have is the tuition (P1=$37,200)... The financial aid section on the website is not very helpful.. there is not enough info on it...
Anyone knows about the scholarship they are offering? What are the chances/ how do they select students? Can we do anything to increase our chances of getting the scholarship? How many students get it? When will we find out if you are one of the recipient? Any other scholarships other then what Dr. DeYoung talked about at the interview?

Thanks

Fall 2008 tuition is $36,200. Top 25% interviewees get a $1000 scholarship. Not many other scholarships mentioned.

Did anyone receive that email from Dr. DeYoung today? It sounds to me as if we're all on the waitlist if we didn't get a call yet. No decisions will be made until all interviews are over (mid April). That's so sad. I was trying to stay so positive.:(
