Two excellent users, Shrike and QofQuimica, have proposed setting up a Q&A subforum within the MCAT forum. They will make themselves available to answer questions for those studying for the MCAT.

This forum will operate differently than the standard forum. Only posts asking specific questions or providing direct answers will be allowed. Other discussions about the MCAT will be moved to the main MCAT forum.

All "Volunteer Advisors" and "SDN Moderators" are allowed to moderate this forum.

Welcome to the Study Question Q & A sub-forum, in which some of the more experienced SDNers share their expertise with those who need assistance in studying for the MCAT, DAT, OAT, and PCAT. This forum is very much a work in progress; suggestions are welcome.

There is a series of threads for students to ask questions about the various subject areas on the MCAT, as well as one thread for questions about the MCAT that are not subject-specific, a thread for more advanced science topics that do not appear on the pre-health tests, and a Group Study thread. The Group Study thread is intended for use by students to work out problems without a mod's help. There is also a series of stickied threads that are FAQ and Explanations. Students are requested to please NOT post questions in any of the stickied Explanations threads, all of which are intended to be read-only references for use by the SDN community.

Feel free to post any question about any aspect of your MCAT study with which you are having difficulty. However, please do not start a new thread for your question -- just post it in the appropriate existing Questions thread. We will answer all reasonable questions; we hope to do so reasonably quickly. If you would like to know what topics appear on the MCAT, you should check the MCAT Student Manual (http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/studentmanual/start.htm)

Please do not post answers to questions in this forum without a moderator's prior approval. If you are a pre-health (MCAT, PCAT, DAT, OAT) test prep instructor, or you have a graduate-level background in one of the pre-health test subjects, or you are a senior undergrad who scored well on any of these exams, and you would like to help answer questions for one of the regular Q & A threads, please PM Shrike or QofQuimica and let us know. However, all undergrad students who are currently studying for any of these tests should NOT post answers to other students' questions in any of the Q & A threads except for the Group Study thread. Thanks to everyone for your cooperation.

As is true elsewhere on SDN, you may NOT quote or closely paraphrase actual MCAT questions. All posts containing actual MCAT questions, close paraphrases of actual MCAT questions, or answers to MCAT questions will be deleted by the moderators.

I would like to make everyone aware of a free on-line site called MCATPearls, authored by Dr. Alfa Diallo. You can visit it at www.mcatpearls.com for advice on taking the MCAT, as well as brief chapters on AAMC topics for all four MCAT sciences. Dr. Diallo has an MD/MPH and has published a microbiology review book.

Another resource that you pre-meds should be aware of is The Not So Short Introduction to Getting Into Medical School (http://plaza.ufl.edu/aycock/medshort/medshort.pdf). Ryan Aycock, who is the main author, editor, and founder of The Introduction, is currently a medical student and a member of SDN. Several other SDNers have also contributed their critiques and sections on various sections of the manuscript. Most important for our purposes here, there is a section of The Introduction that gives advice and information about the MCAT that you may find helpful as you prepare for your exam.
