Well, i can't believe i've been hangning out on SDN for 6 years now! Here I am starting my PGY5 year in Gen Surg, and once again i'm coming back here for advice. I'm trying to research surgical fellowships; specifically colorectal. There are only 3 positions in all of Canada, so it looks like i need to apply south of the border in the the USA as well. I know about the match and have been on the NRMP website. HOwever, other than a listing of the programs that are involved in the match i cannot much information on the individual fellowships. I have also heard that there are other fellowships out there that do not participate in the match. Anyone know any that are good? Which of the colorectal fellowships have good/bad reputations? How competative are they? Can anyone out there in SDN land help me out?

One of the chiefs at my program is applying for colorectal. Based on brief conversations with him, I propose that the following programs have good reputations:

Cleveland Clinic
Mayo
Lousiville
Univ. of Minn
Wash U.
Baylor
Penn

Dunno about community type fellowships. I will ask him the next time I see hom though.

Best of luck.

Hi there,
I would add Lahey Clinic to that list also and St. Vincent's in Erie, PA.
