I just took my last two shelf exams today, and it feels pretty damn good to be done. Here's to 6 days of boozing and and mindless entertainment.

Good luck to all who are embarking on the adventures of 3rd year. It will mainly be some of the worst days of your life, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel (and some parts are fun). Don't ever let them steal your sense of humor, its the only thing that keeps you going.

Peace- I'm outta here.

Thursday and Friday for me, and then it's all over for the M3. At the onset of the year, the end never looked so far away, and now that it's here I can safely say the only medical school moment that will top this feeling will be graduation. Congrats to all the new M4s and good luck to all the new M3s.

Starting 4th year on Monday. No more propping up the OR table for hours, dealing with other people's screaming kids, catching babies, or sitting a foot away from a psychotic patient while my attending (sitting across the table from the said patient) severely aggravates them with questions. :horns:

Congrats to all new MSIV's!

Preach on Brother! Taking my last shelf on Friday morning, with my last 3rd year clinical experience this afternoon.

It had its moments, but I'm sure glad it's over.

Congrats! I was excited when my third year ended too. But as stinger said, the only better med school moment is graduation. And the first time someone calls you "doctor." It's such a surreal feeling, and I sometimes find it hard to believe that I am a doctor.

Have fun in your fourth year - it's the best year of med school! :hardy:

...is to repeat April and May '06 of my M4 year over and over again (Vacation and some kickback elective called Preparation For Internship, respectively). I don't want that responsibility of the M.D...

MCW Class of 2006

p.s. - Done with surgery...just an exam on Monday that that's it for the M3 year...sure did blow, but not as bad as second year.

Within the next 3 weeks, I'll be taking the CK and CS and, if I've planned everything correctly, the stretch from August 05 to May 06 will be the best 10 months of my life. No more OSCEs, no more NBMEs, no more OB/Gyn... :D

certain parts of 3rd year just ripped any shreds of self-esteem and dignity I had going in to pieces. The fact that any med school was willing to graduate some of the residents and attendings at Tufts is a crime against humanity. To anyone who isn't out there going; "oh, med school was the BEST time of my life, esp. 3rd year, I got AOA and got married in Newport," if I can get through it, anyone can. I got a couple P's during 3rd year and in spite of dire predictions from people on here and at TUSM, my life wasn't ruined, I got a residency I'm happy with, so they can kiss my chubby Caucasian bum..oh, I forgot, it would be hard for them to do this as their heads are impacted somewhere near their cecums..

Moral is CONGRATS on making it through, and like the OP said, don't let them destroy your sense of humor, cause laughing at the absurdity of med school is all you can do..

Okay wise ones. You are stealing my thunder. I just took both the COMLEX and USMLE step I and needless to say, I felt the weight of the world off my shoulders with the end of 2nd year. I was under the impression that 3rd year would be much much better than the first 2 years in medical school. But listening to you guys, it seems like it is the worst year. I don't understand what you mean, so could you clarify what really sucks about it (so I can prepare)? Peace out G-moneys.

Depends on how you look at it. The thing that really sucks, in my opinion, is how third year puts you on someone else's schedule. There's no more "hmm i'm kinda tired this morning, so I'm just going to skip class today"; instead, unless you have some condition that necessitates you being treated at a hospital, you're expected to be at work all day (sometimes even if there's nothing to do), with the threat of failure looming over your head if you aren't. Having to be at work everyday, especially when coupled with clerkships you absolutely hate (fields you wouldn't enter for a million $$ a year) makes it almost unbearable at times.

Then there's the problem with simply being a medical student and getting scutted, ignored, yelled at, etc. , the frequency of which all depends on your school, your schedule, your rotation, and the residents on service at the time.

So, some people hate third year because of the time commitment required (especially on services they hate), and some people hate it because they don't get treated with the respect/responsibility that a resident/attending does.

But who knows, you might enjoy yourself. It's a totally different experience from the first two years.
