I'm happy with the scores. I used the Kaplan book and the subject tests, Barrons, and Schuams for Biology. I studied pretty hard for about 2 weeks. That being said, the DAT is VERY doable, just put in the time. I didn't want to spend my whole summer studying so I took it now (maybe not the best approach). For everyone stressing - as is custom here on SDN - there were no questions (even in Bio) that I had no idea on, more just general stuff. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions people have.

All science topics for me. The three topics were (roughly) - Comets and Asteroids, Glutame receptor stuff, and human brain imaging (MRI, CT, MRA, etc.)

I had a few questions on entropy and Gibbs free energy, not really calculations just setting up an equation. A few on reaction kinetics, rates and orders. A couple bonding questions - angles, hybridization, pi and sigma bonds. A molality and molarity calculation. Titrations and dilutions. One or two ideal gas law questions. A mass percentage question. Honestly, no question or questions stood out as exceptionally difficult.

My study plan:

Mon - Fri: studied from 5 pm til midnight of 1 am
weekends: put in at least 10 hours a day

I read Kaplan, Barrons, and Schaums first. Then did all the practice problems I could find and read the explanations - this was key. Then I re-read all the books a second time while doing practice problems. Once you get a handle on the specifics, the real thing seems like a breeze because the topics are more general.

Did you have any questions on plant biology and embryology?

I've been using Schaum's, have a DAT this Wednesday and feel it has a ton of info, that which probably won't be on the DAT. If something bears a similarity to my Kaplan studies, or from Topscore, I usually read it and try to learn it...the other stuff I just skim through...too much info...too little time...plus, this should be of aid for the reading comp section too! :p

sorry i took so long to respond...hopefully this answers everyone's questions.

- the orgo part was much easier than kaplans. I must have made some stupid mistakes because I thought I missed maybe 2 or 3. The Kaplan book gives you EVERYTHING you need to know for this section - i had a bunch of pretty basic reactions.

- kaplan and schaums bio came up big for me as bio was my best score, but i have a lot of biology background anyway. I had one plant identification (can't remember exactly) but the answers were something like bryophyta, fern, angiosperm, gymnosperm. And yes, I had the infamous sea urchin question.

- the neuroimaging passage was suprisingly easy because i already knew a lot about most of the techniques from undergrad (MRI, PET, and CT especially). The passage that was really difficult was the glutamate receptor passage - lots of very technical jargon that made reading fast tough.
