Hi everyone,

I was wondering if you know where I can get the salary breakdown that compares private practice salaries to academic salaries?

I have asked my attendings on rotations all year why they choose one vs the other. It seems the main answer why ppl choose academic medicine is:
1.lifestyle (better)
2. you can spend more time with your patients -- instead of being rushed and rushed.
of course, i know these benefits come with a pay cut-- my question is how much?

anyone know of a site where i can get these salary listings?

thanks!
snowinter!

expect private practice salaries to be 1.5x to 3x higher depending on specialty... private practice is about the bottom line and you better work fast and make smart financial decisions for your group...

academics is slower... more free time, but generally you have to publish to maintain respect from your colleagues...

I, for one, don't like research but will be looking to work in a "laid-back" private practice that hires more people and distributes work evenly so everyone only works 40-50 hrs / wk...

in truth, everything is out there you just have to look...
