morgantaylor 07-05-2005, 09:17 PM Hello. I'm finishing up my PASS application for pedo....Just trying to narrow down my applications a little more. Any more info (positive or negative) on any of these programs is greatly appreciated.
Colorado
Yale New-Haven
Children's National--DC
UIC
Indiana
Children's--Boston
UMKC
Nebraska
UNLV
NY--Brookdale
NY--Montefiore
NY--St. Barnabas
NY--Columbia-Prebsbyterian
Ohio State
Oregon
South Carolina
Baylor
San Antonio
Washington
Thanks so much!!!
i've heard South Carolina and Washington are hard to get into.
last year, i think Colorado had an unmatched spot (someone correct if i'm wrong).
UNLV...? isn't the whole program run via satellite clinics due to lack of a central facility?
good luck. keep us posted.
i'm interested to see how you fare... i've heard the last 2 or 3 years have been super competitive.

BlueToothHunter 07-07-2005, 04:48 PM The word has it that Vanderbilt Medical Center will start a new pediatric dental residency from 2007. Good luck everyone.
Dr. Pedo 07-07-2005, 05:39 PM hi everyone
Yes there is no doubt pedo has become ubercompetitive in the last 5 years-----however as with anything----there are always exceptions.
SC- Is competitive, but so are nearly all the schools you are applying to. If you have the money I would apply to them all (It depends on your numbers of course---boards, gpa, research, LOR, etc...)
The midwest schools I can speak for since I interviewed and applied to most of them----or know someone who did. They are ALL very RESEARCH oriented schools--especially IN and WI--except NE. NE is a nice school with a great Director. They are purely a practice makes perfect school----treating kids all day starting day one. (Alittle exaggeration but not your normal sit in the classroom residency.) You'll have to PM me with specific questions if you desire as I could go on and on.
Overall----good luck in your application process and your Senior year.

I know that more people are applying to pedo. But this in itself doesn't really mean anything. What about the caliber of applicants? Ortho and endo don't seem to be getting any easier to get into, so it seems like the einsteins are still going that route. I want to do pedo myself so please don't anyone take this the wrong way.

Your logic has eluded me  . Are you saying there are just more avg. applicants applying?

Logic always seems to elude you. Let's do some simple math. If only 5 einsteins apply for the only 5 spots available then there is no competition. Everybody gets in. If 5 einsteins and 100 average students apply for only 6 spots, there's some competition. By the way, top 10% of the class=top 10% of the class. You can't fit another few % in there. There may be some top 10 students applying to different specialties, but I think ortho, endo and OMS are taking the vast majority of them.
Demeter 07-10-2005, 09:19 PM What are some deadlines for applications. I have not yet started the Pass process.

lol----hey you're everywhere demonstrating your ignorance. At least this time you left out your sexist comments and broad generalizations  Are you still bitter about the other thread where I pointed that out. The top 10%=top 10% yep, good boy.
Please do SDN a favor and post when you have something constructive to add to a thread----and more importantly stay in the dental student forum where this type of behavior is rewarded by some others with similar ignorance/immaturity. ;) Or perhaps you could spend some more time posting on your important thread with the OMFS who seem to make you feel inferior.
I've also noticed you always have a rebuttal for your comments (which given a majority of your comments I understand why) which unfortunately spotlights your personality. Good luck in your endeavors.

Excuse me your holiness for questioning your perfection, your intelligence and your goodness. Can I ever be forgiven and earn your respect? I have seen the error of my ways. If only I could be half as mature as you I never would have stepped out of line. Then I could be almost as pompous and self-righteous as you. Then I can be one of those who made it through school with all A's but never really learned to think for oneself. You don't seem to realize that there are more opinions out there than your own. Succumbing to calling me ignorant shows me you are unwilling to think out of the box. And since when is "rebuttal" a bad thing? Oh that's right when one is as perfect as you there is no need for debate or discussion.
the program director at my school mentioned there was a huge influx of mid 90's NBDE1 applicants to the program the past year. (as for which applicants actually got accepted, i do not know)
so perhaps yes... or perhaps just the case at my school.
good luck!

jk5177 12-04-2005, 04:53 PM Anyone know much about the pedo residency at Washington? I heard they do research on child behavioral management.
