To preface, I am a fourth year med student about to do a subI in medicine. I already have current, pharmacopeia, the sanford guide, and a med student's pocket reference but I was wondering what you all think about the Internal Medicine Handbook for Clinicians by Huang, Tang et al. I have only been able to find one edition, the 1st, copyright 2000. Is there a later edition? Do you think that this information would be to outdated? Also, what do you think about the MGH Pocket Doctor? And Lange's Medicine On Call? I don't want to break the bank but I don't want to buy the wrong books either! Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I'd say sanford guide, the pharmacopia and the MGH pocket medicine book by sabatine is all anyone needs. (especially if there are computers in the hospital).

Thank you lurkerboy! Anybody else want to chime in? I am thinking more and more each day that I am going to return the Internal Medicine pocketbook that I bought and get the MGH Pocket Doctor but since the latter is twice as much in cost I want to get as many opinions as possible!

i would have epocrates (please see my last post) which includes infectious disease and all the drugs and tables you could possibly need. then i would pick ONE medicine book. pick a book that you feel comfy with...i always felt comfy with the ferry's handbook but others liked hte harrison's hand book. don't go crazy buying books b/c for the most part, all books have the same info and it's just a matter of how good you are at finding stuff in your book.

yes, 2001 is too outdated...dont use it. if computers are available to you, don't worry about going book crazy...they'll just drain your $ and become coasters for your drink. mdconsult.com will have everything you need while you're on call and is faster than you searching through a 2 volume harrisons.

good luck on the sub I...it won't be as bad as you think.
