I'm a fourth year applying for an IM residency position at a university-based CA IM program. Does anyone know what it takes to get interviews at these programs and what the general atmosphere is like at these programs? Are the residents in general happy, overwhelmed, left any time to pursue research, etc? If it makes any difference, I'm attending a low-mid tier US allo med school, crushed step 1 and did well on clinical rotations (nearly all honors). Is AOA necessary to interview?
