Hey I am not one of the anal types but I applied to dental school and as I look over the scheduled classes I see a lot of classes that I have not taken (I took the required 2 semesters of Bio, Chem, Physics and Orgo) will I be at a disadvantage in dental school or with the boards? Could the students who did not take any advanced Bio classes comment on this some of the classes include.

biochem
anatomy
histology
microbio

Thanks!

I did philosophy in college and had absolutely no problem with these or any other classes. Chances are even if you took biochem once you forgot the pathways.

You'll learn everything you need to know about those classes in d-school. However, if you can take them now, you'll be happy you did. It'll make d-school a lot easier than otherwise.

I totally agree with this comment. I was also a non-biology/science major, but I took biochem, micro, cell bio and physio so that I wouldn't feel so lost. And, so far I'm glad. But like others said, you will learn all the stuff here.

So I just barely (3 minutes ago) finished my LAST UNDERGRAD ASSIGNMENT!!!! I'm graduating, I guess this weekend, with a liberal arts degree. I was thinking that because I still have 6 weeks til D-school starts I'd spend maybe 1/2 hour a day studying an anatomy book so I'm not at a huge disadvantage. Is it worth it or should I just enjoy life while I can?

I was an engineering major. It doesn't make a big difference. The detail is so much more that bio majors don't always see it all in undergrad. In my honest opinion nothing can fully prepare you for the pace and volume besides discipline. Don't worry yourself too much.

i was a philosophy major too. when you get to school you'll realize it doesn't matter what you majored in - i've had no trouble adjusting to dental school and had surprisingly even done better academically than quite a few science majors at my school. the only different thing is, instead of writing papers and reading assignments, you'll be doing a lot more of memorization. everythign will be retaught and if you have trouble understanding concepts, you can always get in study groups and study with people who grasp the concepts well. then, there's also the clinical/psychomotor aspect of dental school - and you can't tell who will be good or not in these based solely on their majors. i wouldn't worry if i were you. im sure you'll do just fine at school. :)
