I'm in the process of deciding between IM and path with the goal of doing research. but I'd also like to to keep industry open as an option... can anyone comment on the option of going into industry for MD/PhDs after completing residency? I've heard that pathology is one of the better routes to take if you want to be in R&D.

much thanks.

I have heard that an Internal Medicine residency is optimal for industry work. Further specialization in Hem-Onc or Allergy is also desirable. You can run a lot of the multi-center clinical trials used in Pharma.
