Hi,
Does the lateral pterygoid help in any way in elevating the mandible?
Cause I have this question that's confusing me.
*Each of the following muscles is a PRIMARY elevator of the mandible EXCEPT one, which one is the exception :
a- Masseter
b- Mylohyoid
c- Temporalis
d- Medial pterygoid
e- Lateral pterygoid.
I know that mylohoid has nothing to do with elevating but neither does the lateral pterygoid, that leaves me with no positive answer to this question, please advice.

You are right, but the mylohyoid is a suprahyoid muscle and it assists in opening the jaw, I don't know about Primary however.

hi
superior fibres of lateral pterygoid help in elevation of the md .This the only muscle which helps in opening and closing.

Any thoughts, anyone?
I think your Q is answered by several people and also by me (in another thread). SHLP has a small role in Closing and Retrusion.
