It occurs usually in response to infections. Any persistently enlarged (more than six weeks) or painful lymph nodes need to be investigated by a doctor. Transient lymph node swelling i.e. for a few days is not very significant as it occurs in response usually to an acute infection, eg. swollen neck nodes in a sore throat |
