Sorry to ask you guys this question, when you guys are so stressed, just coming out of the exam:o

Did you feel the real thing today was comparable to:

The TRP full lengths:

The Kaplan full lengths:

The AAMC tests:

EK verbal 101:

And congrats on being done with the beast  You'r a WINNER! :)

This will vary across test forms but...

PS was comparable to Kaplan PS in terms of difficulty, although Kaplan is probably a bit too extreme on the long calculations. The calculations on the real deal were doable. I guess similar to AAMC 8 PS in some ways. Definetly not like AAMC 3R-7 PS; those sections were significantly easier than this.

VR is hard to judge. Definetly harder then EK101 Verbal in terms of dense reading. Like AAMC 8 VR I'd say.

BS was harder than Kaplan BS. Mostly experimental setups, and barely any direct questions. It wasn't worth it to try and memorize the entire review material. Probably only used about 20% of it since most questions had to do with the experiments in the passages.

PS - similar to AAMC; very few Gchem on mine (thank God!)
VR - similar to Kaplan
BS - harder than Kaplan and AAMC - more inferences than knowledge questions

Hope this helps.

ps - def. very similar to aamc's maybe even a bit easier. Much easier than PR/Kaplans, however, 8r ws much harder

verbal - pretty much the same as AAMC/Kaplan/PR - I've found i get about the same score on all of them, and the real one didnt feel much different than any of those, however, 8r was harder

bio - Like the aamc, but harder. More along the line of the Kaplan tests. They wanted some real nitty girtty details, and alot of passage inference....Also only one ocem passage that was again, detail focused. I'd say this was the worst section compared to my expectations based on the aamc 3-8's. It was on par with the aamc 8r bio

PS-there were a number of problems presented in a fashion that I was not used to. not too many calculations to do and did not remember having to recall constants or equations to answer the questions. I would say AAMC is the way to go here. the non-AAMC prep courses are heavy on calculations when my actual MCAT was mostly reading comprehension/concepts.

VR- similar to EK. was nothing like AAMC 7. I was expecting to have 9 full page essays with all difficult readings. I think this is just chance.

BS- similar to EK/AAMC. the EK end of chapter 30 minute exams were very similar to the real deal as well as the AAMC practice exams.

Hey in regards to the test being similar to 8 in nature.........

I wanted to say that when I took the test in August 04, it was very similar to test 8 in nature, especially the PS section. The BS section had lots of genetics back then, but not much physio on my old form from August 2004. It seems that happened to my friend, who had form AG this time.

She said that the TPR workbook helped a great deal, but she is still worried as hell, especially about the PS section. She said it started easy and then it got progressively harder, which is what concerns her. But like everyone else, I think she's just worrying because so much is riding on this test.

PS- a lot easier than kaplan, amout the same as aamc 3r

VR- hard to say, I have a hard time with gaging those

BS-easy easy easy. Mine was almost exactly like Kaplan FL7 that I snuck in the night before...it even had an orgo question dealing with the same thing. (ester to amide rx)

PS: Several of the passages seemed VERY VERY familiar--I only used AAMC practice tests (all of them), Kaplan comprehensive review book, and Examkrackers. It seemed like I recognized a lot of it from the aamc practice tests and from Examkrackers(I think it could have been the 16 mini-mcats book??)

Verbal: Similar to AAMC practice tests, I guess. I just had a difficult verbal section. It really helped me that I've taken a lot of philosophy/psychology/sociology classes. It really helps your reading comprehension to take some philosophy courses--you could take a bioethics course, for example.

BS: Mine had at least 4 passages with orgo. Don't listen to people saying that they've taken orgo off of the test, b/c it depends on your form--it was definitely on mine. orgo was like the AAMC practice tests, I guess. A lot of synthesis questions--NOT a lot that you could figure out just from reading the passage. The bio was kinda weird--more like verbal than anything else--have to be able to look into the passage to help you answer. Kidney/endocrinlogy/heart function. Seemed like AAMC practice tests to me but more inferring from the passage.

PS - Not as hard as Kaplan (thank God) but much harder than the early AAMC tests. I think AAMC 8 is the best approximation, although this was harder.

Verbal - Very much like AAMC 8, but this time I actually finished. And I was surprised by the lack of really difficult to understand/excruciatingly boring passages.

Bio - Hmm, not really like any practice test I've taken. VERY heavily weighted towards molecular biology (possibly like 7/10s). Also a lot immunology. Practically no orgo on my form, but be aware that some forms had lots of orgo. I really wish mine had been one of those, and had less of the really tricky molec bio crap... The last couple passages were ridiculous.
