The pharmacist I shadow and a former employer both filled out and submitted my letters of recommendation in early July. I've run into problems getting a professor to fill one out for me. After waiting 6 weeks for my organic prof to fill out my final one, I politely switched to another professor who said he would be glad to write one for me. 2 weeks later, I'm still waiting. Do professors generally take a long time to fill these out? To me, it's a simple enter and e-submit. Maybe it's the summer and they're busy, but it's hard staying patient...

I think I am going to do this:

Get a plain postcard, self addressed and stamped. Put it in an envelope addressed to prof that still has not mailed letter. Place in the envelope a typed letter that says:

Dear______
Thank you for writting a letter(s) of recommendation for me. I certainly appreciate your time. I have enclosed a self-addressed, stapmed postcard that you may conveniently drop in the mail at the same time as my letter (s) are sent. This way I will know that my application materials are complete. The materials are due at Home Town University/PharmCas (whatever) by (insert date here). It is recommended that these materials be mailed by (insert date here). Thank you again, and if you have any questions feel free to contact me at __________.

Signed, ____________

I think its a great idea! I'm getting these to my reference people next week. A subtle reminder that may also impress them with its professionalism and degree of organization...

DHG, that's genius! Exactly, be subtle and professional in a direct manner. :)
