I never realized you can purchase pet prescriptions at a retail pharmacy. I assumed you picked them up at the vet. They're fairly expensive too. A female customer came in today at my pharmacy and picked up a prescription for Carmel "Dog" [LAST NAME]. She was dressed rather punkish, and I thought "Dog" was HER nickname as I was ringing her up. Thank god I refrained myself from calling her that after she said it was for her pet... :D

We get them all the time in our pharmacy. In Kentucky, pet meds are taxed and human RX are not, so they have to be rung up differently.

The reason they are expensive is that they aren't covered by insurance and need to be paid for out of pocket.

No doubt. Adequately taking care of a pet today is costly, but well worth it! :)

It's also interesting when some people remember their pet's DOB.

Yep, a couple of years ago, my dog had really bad separation anxiety and was prescribed clonazepam and clomipramine. We filled them at a local retail pharmacy.
When I was working at Eckerd I saw one person getting insulin for a diabetic dog. Another person told me their dog was on something like prozac, but for dogs. The medicine was expensive too. One dog prescription I remember cost $150. People love dogs and cats though so they'll pay it.
Even dogs like the Easter Bunny!

It's even freakier than that Donnie Darko bunny... :D

Whoa...someone else told me the same thing. I won't let the Easter Bunny know though. I wouldn't want to upset the bunny.
