Hi SDNers.

I will be inteviewing as an International Applicant with USYD in October and wanted to ask all of you if you had any resources to the type of questions asked in the interview. I know each university has different criteria by which it goes, so I am looking for Uni of Sydney info specifically. If anyone has had an int. applicant interview, would you share some of your insights into the atmosphere and questions asked.

Any online resources or weblinks would also be appreciated. This will be my first ever interview to a medical school so I am a bit nervous about what to expect.

Also, what do you guys think about getting the email addresses of interviewers to send them a thank you note? Recommended or not?

Thank you all for your help!!!

Well... Can't answer anything, but an email thank you note is just plain cheese. If anything, go and get the Thank you notes now, fill them out ahead of time, and then mail them before you leave Australia.

Totally, disagree. If you would like the interviewer to actually see the "thank you note", by all means email it. Most Faculty I have dealt with read their own emails (wherever they may be and regularly). Not so with snail mail. No one is going to be impressed with your fancy stationary. This is the 21st century. If you mean business, send email. True in general. It isn't a wedding invitation!

And send the email right away.

I have graduated from the University of Sydney's GMP and I applied as an international student.

My interview was in San Fransisco. The questions I was asked were very straight forward and easy to answer. Such as: "Have you worked in a team environment and how did you contribute to the team?", "What do you think was the most important contribution to the advancement of medicine?"

It was almost 5 years ago...so my memory does fail me, but you get the just of it. It was a very relaxed interview and low stress.

I delivered a thank you card to the reception desk after my interview. My interview was in a conference room at a hotel. If you're interview is also at a hotel, it's safe to assume the interviewer's are staying at that same hotel.

Make sure you have questions ready for them. This shows you're well researched and are serious about the program.

Hope this helps!

Email me if you're accepted and I'll fill you in on the Sydney scoop!
