Given all my previous rantings and ravings about the USAF, it may surprise you to learn that I have volunteered for a Hurricane Katrina relief mission to Keesler AFB this coming weekend. About 50 members of our local church will be spending this coming weekend at Keesler helping cleanup after the Hurricane. The last I heard our assignment is to help those Air Force members whose on and off base homes were badly damaged. There is a chance that our assignment to Mississippi may change after the trip was delayed by Hurricane Rita, we will know more after our planning meeting this Wednesday.

I have been to Keesler before Katrina. It will be interesting to see Keesler and Biloxi now.

My son just finished basic training at Lackland, and was supposed to go to Tech school at Keesler, but his class has been cancelled until next spring. I hear that the medical center has been reduced to a tent.

Regretfully, our trip planned for this weekend to Keesler was cancelled without explanation.

Keesler looks ALMOST like it used to (minus a few trees, a leaning static model) but the hospital was still down last time I saw it, although they DID have lights and air conditioning in the main corridor that I walked down when I salvaged my stuff out of the intern call room... Oh and the commissary is now in back of the enlisted club while the main one is being cleaned up... They shoved a lot of the clinics over to the dental clinic building so patients are now being seen - kinda.

Portsmouth here I come!

good to hear things are returing to semi-normal.

as a sidenote, we're taking two of your residents here at the national capital consortium (WRMAC/NNMC). we're doing our best to take make help them through this.

hope your transition into your new program is a smooth one.
