I was complete a long time ago.

Stats are average, 3.5, 28 but I have a 4.0 in graduate courses (doing a masters). Went to Ivy (although that matters for absolutely nothing!) :rolleyes:

i am a new jersey resident, complete since 9/15, 3.3 and 34. no interview yet.

Where did you guys do your undergrad; I was at NJIT, so I was right next door to UMDNJ, and have done some things over there, know a couple people over there ;) I was told by a member of the admissions committee that you need at least a 27 for them to even look at your application.

The good news is that they will have their student apartment building completed in time for next fall and you can get your hands on a nice new place to stay; the bad news is you'd have to live in Newark then :scared: It'd be nice to live right next to the school; however, it'd also be nice to be able to drive home to the relaxing suburbs each night. I live about 15-20 minutes from UMDNJ right now. I went to school in Newark for the past 5 years; a word to the wise don't walk off campus at night, and don't park on the street if at all possible. Also, if you're gonna be riding the newark city subway, learn which days not to wear certain gang colors. It's not that bad, Newark is getting better, but ya still need to watchout. One of the NJIT parking lots was a couple blocks from the school and across from a "projects" type of housing :scared:

newark isnt as bad as people complain...the city closes at night like around 8pm....in fact bars and restuarants in newark close at 8 PM with happy hours starting at 4 PM. the streets are deserted at night with police patrolling them. i would advise people to walk in groups preferably like 4 people outside of the campus.

parkingwise, the umdnj dorms will have a parking garage attached to it, so it shud be safe. but many NJMS students have told me that people have their cars stolen and broken into when parked in the regular lots.

I am not sure if I will need a car...so I will probably rely on public transportation

Yeah definitely. It used to be ALOT worse; like I said, it is getting better. In the NJIT blotter you see multiple auto thefts/break-ins listed every week. Maybe in the downtown area there are not many people around at night, b/c it's all businesses and everyone goes home at 5; however UMDNJ and NJIT are right in the middle of a residential area, and mostly low income housing at that. I would be very careful walking off the campus at night. In the blocks around UMDNJ and NJIT, I've seen plenty of people on the streets at night, and not the kind you want to run into. No one should be afraid to go to school there, but also don't be naieve; be aware of your surroundings.

BTW, if you haven't tried it out yet, the Portugeuse food in the iron bound is great! At Iberia, it can be relatively reasonable if you go with a group and order a large dish. I think the Paella is around $35 and can feed about 5-6 easily.

I know they do give some preference to NJ residents, plus I think it may help a bit if you did undergrad at one of their closely affiliated schools such as Rutgers or NJIT. Does anyone have the U.S. News Ultimate Guide To Medical Schools and can post up the exact numbers of in state / out of state applicants/acceptances? I know it's in there, but my friend is borrowing my copy.

The best way to get in is to become buddies with Dr. Heinrich. He loves students that e-mail, call, visit, and just overall show extreme interest in the school. He is very receptive to applicants. Although I ultimately decided not to attend NJMS, I received an early acceptance and a lot of scholarship money. I think a lot of that was attributed to the fact that Heinrich was my boy. Oh yea, it also helps to have decent stats (esp if you want some money)

MD/PhD: You'll have one interview for the MD and about 3-4 for the PhD. THe program director is very nice. Be prepared to talk about your research and be yourself. IT wasn't stressful, very conversational. I loved it! The day is somewhat long 9-3 for me.

Hello! I just received my interview invite for NJMS today - and I was so excited until it sounds like I am going to get shot there.
Seriously, how bad is it? I am comfortable around some of the supposedly "bad" parts of LA (East LA, South Central), how would it compare??

i completed early sept, scheduled interview today for 10/25.

waitlisted and rejected last year. very impt to maintain contact w/heinrich. he lambasted me for not expressing enough interest and commitment to the school while i was on the waitlist.

have 3.15 from a hardass premed school, and a 37R.

will prolly live in hoboken if i get in, i have a few friends who commute to njms from there and they like it.

just had my interview there yesterday...i like the school. the facilities are nice, although i couldn't get an in depth tour because my interview was scheduled immediately after. i liked what i saw, though. newark does rather suck, but i suppose it would make for some interesting hospital experiences.

question for the current students there...do you think most of the student body commutes and does that lead to a lack of campus life. in other words, do you hang out with your med school buddies after class or lab work?

according to the 2006 MSAR book, 2712 out of state applied. 0 (zero) got interviewed, and somehow 23 matriculated.

I just took a walk with my bf to New Jersey Med just so that I can have no problems finding it tomorrow morning. I only live 20 minutes away so it was a short walk. I walked through the campus and it was absolutely wonderful!!! I really really love it! I know I'll see more on the tour tomorrow but it was an incredible feeling being there. :love: :love: :love:

I had an asolutely wonderful interview. In all my two years of interviewing, this was BY FAR the most relaxed one. I had Dr. David Dershewitz. He was fantastic. I loved the school. I feel they could have maybe done a better job at organizing the day. Most other interviews have a dean or someone from the admissions office give a presentation about the school/financial aid info. NJMS didnt have that so at times, I was just sitting doing nothing. But its ok. Not enough to distract from the school or my utter love for it! :love: :love:

In terms of the boards, NJMS has perfored above the mean. In addition, the new curriculum should increase that..but only this years second years can prove that. I think I am sending it in this next week. You all sound great and exciting. NJMS sounds like an exciting place, but dang that weather, yo!

most NJMS people stay on the east coast due to family, local knowledge of hospitals, local recruitment by residency programs

they have a scribe service as ADIC said...u dont have more than 3 hrs of lecture a day. Tues rite now we only have 1 hr of lecture, and on thursdays i dont have lecture, because we go out to our preceptors and learn history/physicals. However, anatomy lab is a biggie because u get A LOT of learning done which would cut away at some of that studying time. lecture is not mandatory. Scribe notes are good. The only class that doesnt have scribe notes is physicains core, but notes are online and everything pretty much comes from the book.

That 3hour rule is just in theory. Usually they try to keep lectures around 3 hours (labs and group stuff doesn't count in this number). When you get to some other courses later, once in a while you'll hit about 5hrs of lecture.

This doesn't mean that you HAVE to go to the lectures. Scribe notes are decent enough (though to warn you, a few scribers aren't very good. most are, but once in a while you'll get the one scribe you can't stand). So if you're willing to deal with that small issue, lectures arent' that bad.

My advice: Go to lectures if/when you start. Unless you are highly disciplined, you might just sleep through the lectures and then fall behind because you weren't really covering the material they taught in class. If you have your stuff together, then by all means, skip lecture and enjoy getting up late. school doesn't seem so rough if you work it that way.

the time itself varies and i'm not exactly sure about why. I found out within 2weeks while a friend of mine was waitlisted within that same time. Another friend didnt hear anything for 6weeks or so.

FYI Heinrich only calls to give your acceptance. For anything else, you get a disappointing letter. So if the person says "Hi, this is Heinrich", pull over your car so you don't kill yourself before med school starts

I was interviewed by Dr. Hansen. I have interviewed at 4 schools so far and I thought I did the worst in that one. Go figure. However he did tell me that he was on the actual admissions committee, so that might be why I heard back so fast. I dont think you are in trouble at all, just stay positive. I interviewed at another school almost 2 months ago and haven't heard anything and I am dying to find out if I am going to be accepted.

yeah i sent him an email at 1 in the morning telling him that when i called the office, the admissions people didn't know what was going on with my app. in fact, they told me my app was just sitting there.....

thanks...maybe im being paranoid... but for some reason i feel like my reviewer handed my evaluation in the same day as my interview. i dont know why i feel that way... im wondering if they already evaluated my application and just decided to wait more...


did you write a letter to them by any chance? i sent a letter to dr. heinrich recently, basically saying i would go if accepted and he thanked me for the letter but didnt say anything else.

it was via e-mail and I received it when I got into work on 10/18. I called right away and was able to schedule an interview for 10/20. I live in Newark, so it was not hard to coordinate travel in a day. I just had to take off work.

usually no...there will be a very few who will be waitlisted

You never have to park in an unsecured lot at NJMS unless you choose to. The student lot is open during the day, and you can park in the DOC (Doctor's office bldg) lot after hours (and it's open 24 hours a day).

If you don't have a compelling reason to take public transit (commuting from NYC) then you're better off driving to the campus.

parkingwise, the umdnj dorms will have a parking garage attached to it, so it shud be safe. but many NJMS students have told me that people have their cars stolen and broken into when parked in the regular lots.

I am not sure if I will need a car...so I will probably rely on public transportation

What is all this about an open house in January? I got the phone call from Dr. Heinrich Sunday night (I was so thrilled I sounded like a complete fool!) but I haven't gotten anything in the mail yet. Kinda still wondering if I imagined the whole thing! He really helps set the school apart. I knew he called (a nice touch in and of itself) but he went on to exlain the strengths of the school and was willing to answer any questions I still had (of course I was still stammering "oh my god!" showing great eloquence).

Pay? PAY?! You mean all this torture just to get in to med school and its not FREE? All joking aside, I'm definitely worried about paying for med school. I've heard your parents' income is considered when applying to loans which doesn't help. At least NJMS allows in-state tuition for most students even if they are really out of state.

Hey John- I interviewed at RWJ. It's really not that bad- don't worry. The one thing I can tell you is that a couple days before the interview they e-mailed me and said I could be interviewed by a student in addition to faculty. To be honest, I didn't really want to have 2 interviews (who does?), but in retrospect I'm glad I did. The student who interviewed me turned out to be one of the nicest guys I've met at any of these medical schools, and it was great to get the chance to ask him questions. Plus, I think that interview went better than the faculty interview I had. So if they give you this option, I'd go for it. Also, RWJ likes to ask about how cultural conflicts might come into play as a physician. So be aware of that. Hope that helps!

How's this for a little adventure? I interviewed at NJMS on Oct 13th, but I informed the office that i'd be abroad in Hong Kong visiting family (i'm indian btw, not chinese - tons of indians in HK) until november 6th. So on my way back from the mainland into HK i got a phone call on my US Cell phone but denied cuz didn't know who was calling and the cost per minute was $3 in china. But surprisingly a voicemail was left! so it took me 2 days to figure out how to check voicemail from abroad and when i do i hear: "Hi, this is Dr. Heinrich, from NJMS. Please call me at this number." I DENIED DR. HEINRICH's CALL! Eventually though, i borrowed my cousin's phone and placed the call to hear i was accepted Oct 30th! Apparently i had all this clearance to talk directly with him if I told the secretary I was calling from Hong Kong. Felt real cool. Was a surreal but real cool experience to have gained an admission while i was 8000 miles away from NJMS in the first place!

To those wondering about financial aid:

- Last I remember, there were about 10 humanitarian scholarships given and they seem to be based off MCAT scores from what I have heard
- There are maybe a few others but they require very high scores
- I guarantee that you will all get the aid that you need via loans so don't worry about this. The process itself will be a pain because as informative as the financial aid department tries to be, its not. You will be panicking until orientation probably so just fill out all the required paperwork on time and dont worry - everyone else has gone through the same ordeal and just consider it one of the intiation processes.

underdog, i think it varies in terms of when you will hear. Some people hear as early as 2 weeks post interview, others like myself, have been waiting for 6 weeks without a word. So I think you should just hang tight and wait. Congrats on finishing the interview though.

I think I'll be mulling that one over until May...

i liked njms better than rwj for a few reasons, so if i decide to stay in jerz i'll probably end up there. i think my decision to either go to a more expensive private school or stay instate will come down to $$$. since umdnj is not all that cheap for a state school, i think that i'd probably only end up going if i got some kind of scholarship from them. that's pretty rare, so i'm not banking on it. i'm still trying to learn more about student loan payments and managing debt after graduation and residency (as you might be able to tell from some of my other posts :rolleyes: ).

i got into northwestern, and i'm waiting to hear from pitt. i'm not sure which of these i like better, but they were my two favorite schools that i visited.

basically i already have my main decision laid out in front of me with NU vs NJMS, and if i get accepted anywhere else it'll just be one more thing to consider.

Both are great schools, but the cost of tuition at NJMS is about 15k less than those two, which to me is substantial. I agree though, I love Chicago. I was accepted to UIC and the thought of living in Chicago is very enticing. Good luck with your decision, but I still hope to see you at hte luncheon on Jan. 6th.

what % of the US GDP goes to healthcare? what about europe? what accoutns for the difference in terms of a business sense? (and i'm a bio major with ZERO background in bussiness)

I have an interview at NJMS in late December. I go to Rutgers. Anyone know if Rutgers students are at an advantage? Also, I heard there was an applicant that had an interview that lasted over 2 hours, is this a rumor? I heard it from a tour guide I am friends with. Thanks guys

Anyone know whether or not a laptop is useful or a requirement at njms? If so suggestions would be helpful, thanks!

they have wireless capability in the classrooms, so I assume u can take advantage of that. most med students dont have laptops cuz NJMS provides a pc lab for student use...but i wud def bring my own laptop if I am bored in class :-D

just curious, for those of you who have been accepted, how much are you still trying? Also, does njms care about GPA and grades for senior year, all they say is they want transcripts by Aug 1, 2006....any thoughts, thanks

Thanks for the help. Just a couple of questions to clear up:

1) By "required" you mean prerequisites?
2) Do you think engineering classes are non-science b/c they don't count into BCPM gpa?

I have finished all prereqs and I am just finishing up stuff for my own major, but none of classes affect BCPM or are prerequisites of NJMS

You should probably just email Dr. Heinrich. My decision was made two weeks post interview, but I found out after 6 weeks when I contacted Heinrich directly. If you have been waiting for that long, Im pretty sure the decision was probably made already. Good luck.

Im not really sure, but just go ahead and email him. He got back to me within a day or so and was able to tell me a decision (granted, it was not the decision I wanted, but whatever). I think that the committee meets every thursday, so you may hear something tonight. If not tonight, than probably not until the next year. :luck: :luck: :luck:

been waiting 7+ weeks now, this is pretty ridiculous i feel, especially being in-state...you'd think there's some priority or something.

second interview was completely diff. as you've probably read from my earlier posts, i got raped at my 1st interview.

my 2nd interview went on for almost 2 hours. i got asked a lot of emotional questions. i cried at this interview.........

turn around time should be around 6-8 weeks.. like that secretary said...

but u never know. i believe your decision is made within 2 weeks. because they meet on the closest thursday to your interview. they just take time to process your application and figure out merit scholarship money... thats why the turnaround time is an extra 4 weeks...

Since you are a student, would you care to share your thoughts on what is going on at the school at this time (internally) and what are the feelings of the students about this issue. Please give us an honest answer.

It may not affect the school in the long run (It's a big chance to take though) , but it sure will weigh on my decision come May 15th.

well..here is my take on this whole situation...

the scandal at UMDNJ has to do with top level admin who did not handle the finances properly and cheated the government outta money. So, because the main offices of UMDNJ happen to be in newark, NJMS is getting a pretty bad reputation because of this. The problem lies with the TOP level administration, not the schools administration. And also, the problem is how the school handled some if its finances, not how it provides its medical education. In fact, the LCME has just re-accredited NJMS for the full 8 years, so there arent and problems there. I know that there is some speculation that there will be accreditation problems with UMDNJ, but as far as i know; in order for a medical school to operate it only needs LCME accreditation.

scandals have happened with other schools, and they come and go. this one will soon pass as well. you should be really concerned about going to a school that will give you the best clinical training. NJMS is not goin bankrupt anytime soon, so there really isnt anything to worry bout. the people that did bad things will get da boot.

U.S. Monitor to Oversee Largest Health Care School in Nation

Trustees at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey today appointed a federal monitor to oversee its troubled financial management to avoid federal prosecution for Medicaid fraud that would have shut it down.

University officials agreed to the federal monitor last week after a threat from United States Attorney Christopher J. Christie that he would prosecute the school criminally for intentionally overbilling the Medicaid program by millions of dollars if the board did not allow federal oversight.

Trustees voted, 5-0, to appoint as its monitor Herbert J. Stern, a former judge and federal prosecutor, who won convictions against a former Newark mayor and two mayors from Jersey City in the 1970's.

"Today's agreement is a first step," said acting Gov. Richard J. Codey, who attended the trustees' meeting, according to The Associated Press. "Hopefully this is what gets the ball rolling for real reform at this university. It will get the university back on its real mission."

UMDNJ effectively becomes the first public university in the nation to be placed under federal oversight, according to a Justice Department spokesman in Washington. With its five regional campuses, more than 4,500 students and a $1.6 billion annual budget, UMDNJ is the nation's largest health care university.

If criminal charges had been brought, the university would be disqualified from receiving the federal aid that makes up much of its budget.

For nearly a year, federal agents have been investigating accusations that administrators at the university doled out patronage jobs and tens of millions of dollars in no-bid contracts to their political allies, sometimes for work that was not performed.

Last week, Mr. Christie met with the trustees in a closed-door meeting to tell them of his ultimatum. In his 90-minute presentation, he called the university's financial practices "a public embarrassment and a public disgrace," according to two people at the meeting. Mr. Christie also told the trustees that he intended to charge an unspecified number of university employees with Medicaid fraud, saying they overcharged the federal health care program for the poor by $10 million since 2000.

Mr. Christie also said that he was troubled by the mysterious disappearance of some paper and computer records that his investigators had sought with a subpoena, but it was unclear if he had enough evidence to charge anyone with obstruction of justice.

The week before, the school's chief financial officer quit, after refusing to sign an affidavit vouching for the accuracy of the university's Medicaid bills. Also, Christy Davis Jackson, the vice president for governmental affairs, resigned from her job last week.

The New York Times reported accusations in April that the university might have double-billed Medicaid for millions of dollars. According to university records, its lawyers were warned in 2001 that the university's clinics had overcharged Medicaid by more than $1 million in the previous year, and that its billing practices since the mid-1990's had probably been illegal. The NJMS thread was up high, so I figured I'd post it here because NJMS is a part of UMDNJ. I was just reading the NY Times online, and this was on the front page of it. I'm not trying to start any trouble...

And, you are absolutely right, the school made a good move -- nor does this effect the academics of NJMS.

I've heard it will be ready in time. That said, construction always hits delays, so who knows! :rolleyes:

I had an interview there in early December, I think it went well 0_o. Anyway, Dr. Sanchez seemed to hint that the housing there may be a bit on the "we're gunna squeeze every penny out of you we can" side of things :laugh:

when last i was informed, they said they're meeting this thursday again. but supposedly they are 'very behind' for w/e lame reason, so they are taking longer than the 6-8 weeks that they say for many people.

I sure hope its not already filled. Im interviewing January 18th and im gonna be really mad if its just for the waitlist.

not sure what you're talking about. i know people have been getting acceptences as recently as a week ago, people who interviewed in late november/early december. so i don't know about the class being full. but even if that is the case, njms accepts a decent number of individuals from the waitlist.

Yes I called today, the lady in admissions transfered my call to his sec. I wanted to see if could meet with him to discuss my options on the same day i have my interview however hes booked and only meets on thursdays. So Im skipping some labs in early Feb just to talk to him. I figure it cant hurt. It just sucks its a two hour car ride for me to only speak with him for probably like 15minutes. Oh well, if it helps me then ill do it. When I go up ill find out personally if the class is filled from him and then post it up on here.

As a matter of fact, she said that they are behind (as others have said) but that they do meet regularly.

Yes I called today, the lady in admissions transfered my call to his sec. I wanted to see if could meet with him to discuss my options on the same day i have my interview however hes booked and only meets on thursdays. So Im skipping some labs in early Feb just to talk to him. I figure it cant hurt. It just sucks its a two hour car ride for me to only speak with him for probably like 15minutes. Oh well, if it helps me then ill do it. When I go up ill find out personally if the class is filled from him and then post it up on here.


I was waitlisted at the school also. Im wondering if I should perhaps set up a meeting with him also. Did you ask anything in particular when you called? Just that you wanted to speak to him?

When I called they didnt seem to quite understand why I wanted to meet with him. I just said I wanted to discuss my options etc. They were a little hesitant and said he was booked for a while.(I tried to arrange it for the day of my interview) The lady I spoke with was very nice and helpful I got an appt with him 3 weeks after my interview. Im not really sure what I am going to say though. From what I have been reading once you are waitlisted its a formal process.(Please someone correct me if im wrong) If my meeting with him is beneficial in the least I will post up on here the moment I get back to a computer. I just hope I dont get waitlisted before I get a chance to meet with him.

so are they meeting today? and does anybody know if they notify thursday or friday of acceptances and what time of day?

From what I know, the class has been "filled" for a long time. That's because there are only 180 acceptances floating around at any given time. If 5 kids choose to go elsewhere tomorrow, they will go to the waitlist and send out 5 acceptances. This procedure is implemented to make sure that they don't accidentally accept 300 kids and 250 accept while they can only accommodate 180 people. Just because you are waitlisted, that doesn't mean you won't get accepted. It's really more important to know where you are on the waitlist so definitely call Heinrich and find out. If you're in the top, and the list moves, you're in a good position to get his phone call.

yeah, i also called and they said that the class definitely was not full yet...so i don't know what those suggestions are all about.

When I go there on the 18th I will make a point to find out as much information as i possibly can regarding the class being full, waitlist procedures etc.

well, i was accepted on 12-25 and with my accpetance letter came the invitation for the lunch that i did go and i can tell you, it was completely full, there had to be al least 120 people there.
i did talk to a couple of people and they were not sure about going there, they were all waiting for other schools. so there is still hope. ;)

Yes, I was searching the pre-allo forum for it and couldnt find it. I finally just did a search and much to my surprise it was moved here...

I went to the luncheon.

1. The new Dean of the NJMS gave a short speech.
2. There was some good food served, with lots of cookies on the table.
3. They gave out free NJMS T-shirts, key chains, mugs and pens.
4. They took us on a visit to the Clinical Skillz Center
5. The Dean of Admissions talked about the Federal Investigations into the university and how it would NOT affect the students.
6. Many students had multiple acceptances and didnt make up thier minds if they were gonna matriculate there.

ok so did anybody hear anything from them? they just had a meeting thursday, so who if anybody got acceptances? please post (or if you have any new info to add).

has anybody else been lied to by these people? every time i've called the admissions office or talked to one of the big wig deans, they've lied. they've given timetables, suggested i'd receive this or that, told me to wait "1-2 more weeks, just 1-2 more weeks" every week for the last 5 weeks now. seriously, they've got major problems and they're just making a bunch of people angry at this point.

you're not the only one waiting...some of us have been waiting for months now, with on the good side no indication of waitlist but on the bad side no notification of acceptance either. talk about torture. btw, how can a school with rolling admissions review and accept people who interviewed later while not having reviewed people who interviewed earlier, as seems to be the case here? :thumbdown

I can sense your frustration, and I completely agree. I'm not sure if its a matter of nobody posting anything, or just a lack of news/updates in general from NJMS. My guess is that there are many others waiting like us. But please, if anyone knows anything...please post!!! :confused:

Called again today to check my status (interviewed 12/1). I got to hear "Didn't you get that letter we sent on Dec 30?" Um, no. Must have been lost on the arduous 4 mile mail route from Newark to my home. "You've been placed on the alternate list." So, I wouldn't expect a swift, definitive answer at this point, as it seems they're having some complications.

I think they tried to put all the C/O of so and so year threads here in this subforum of the allo part because these are accepted students so it was appropriate for the allo section. I guess, they saw it was cluttering up preallo last year so they started doing this. They did the same for other C/O 2010 and 2009 threads as well in the past.

did you write that with knowledge that in fact NJMS will be finally making more acceptances this weekend (or were you just being nonspecifically hopeful)? last week it appears nobody got a call, and recently i've heard that they're going through some type of delay on acceptances. is this the case, or are they actually going to make more new acceptances this week now?

I wrote that not because I have any knowledge on when njms will be notifying of decisions, but because Dr. H normally calls on Sunday nights it seems and since it's been awhile since they have notified anyone, I thought since it's getting to the end of the month maybe there'd be some word. I was put on the alternate list last year, and did not get in. I spoke to Heinrich in person this past August, and one of his major gripes was that I did not maintain communication with him or the school while I was on the waitlist. I would recommend a regular campaign (twice a month, say) of calling, emailing, and occasional letter writing - though I would probably wait until the adcom is a little less busy, say, toward the end of February. This was a big mistake I made, so this is your warning lest you repeat it.

I am still waiting to hear this year.

Being as this is my second time on the waitlist, I was wondering if anyone interviewed is ever outright rejected. Are all interviewees either accepted o waitlisted? In other words, is their waitlist status some kind of a "soft" rejection?

Im not sure about how the waitlist works but i have a meeting with Dean Heinrich on Feb 9th and I will be sure to ask as many questions pertaining to the structure of it as possible.

I appreciate your post. I have been thinking about how I will go about keeping myself updated and keeping contact with the committee - you have definitely helped me consider a few ways in doing that, and I thank you for it.
I will be doing my best to keep this contact with the school, and Dean Heinrich himself. I wouldn't want to bother him considering that the adcom is probably very busy right now - but I will likely set up a meeting with him so that he can put a face to the name. At the same time, he can learn more about me, and I hopefully learn a bit more about my chances and what I can do from here on out.
As you already know, its very frustrating because even if you are considered "top tier," there still are no guarantees. We can only try and hope for the best.

about 2 weeks ago, i got a letter from njms letting me know that i was put on an alternative list.

NJMS is one of my few top choices and i was wondering if anyone knows what my odds of actually getting in are.... from the other post it seems that no one has a real %

I like the idea of communication, but I am an out of state applicant.
No meeting for me I guess.

Are anyone's parents or family going to the open house event in March? My family got the letter today.

Well i met with Dean Heinrich today and he said that only a few more spots are currently available and they have not had any new acceptances in the last 6 weeks. He also said that last year there were VERY few people admitted off the waitlist and that happened 3 weeks before classes started. He said the waitlist comes in clusters and that they only kinda rank the top cluster but to expect little waitlist movement. My file hasnt been reviewed yet (interview was Jan 18th) but he said i should expect to be reviewed in about a week...

Oh yea and parking was horrendous. I spent 45minutes looking for a spot to no avail. I called Ms. White and told her and she told me to go get valet and they would validate it. Then the security guard wouldnt let me get from the hospital to the med school lol. So after it was all said and done i was only 15minutes late lol

u know spots will open up when ppl starting choosing other schools...it all depends how many ppl choose other schools and drop njms

That's interesting that he said that, being that femmedagent got in not more than 2 weeks ago. I don't know what that's about, cause there have definitely been other acceptances in the last 6 weeks (i know ppl at my undergrad who got in first week of january even).

I dont think you have to include parental information for any school really. You are considered an independent for graduate studies.
