Hey guys I'm a med student with interest in Anesthesia and a lot of questions.

Is Regional Anesthesia a fellowship? Is it different from a Pain fellowship? And one last question, do general anesthesiolgist perform nerve blocks and others procedures outside of the typical OR setting? How often?

Regional anesthesia isn't a subspecialty of Anesthesiology...rather, it's one of the many various anesthetic plans an anesthesiologist has in his/her arsenal of skills. As for the second part of your question, I'm not sure whether anesthesiologists who haven't trained in a Pain fellowship are allowed to give nerve blocks in a pain clinic. Anyone??

Thanks for the quick followup - the link you posted was very helpful. In response to that... What "procedures" are frequently performed in the OR (epidurals, BP blocks, lines, ect) and how aften are they used with/or in replace of typical "gaswork" ?
