View Full Version : Countdown to November 1st
InternalWhizzzz 10-19-2005, 02:09 PM Hey Peeps,
November 1st is around the corner, the official bloggers countdown has started...13 days to day of reckoning, where the mass rejections or mass interviews come, depending on where you sit on the fence..
just out of curiosity, do IMGs have dean's letter also?
good luck to everybody out there... ....gosh, it feels like applying to medical school all over again....I get the feeling we might get pimped on random disorders during the interview and forget the basic of facts.
I will pluck a clover leaf, one every day that we are closer to the Day...ok, 13 clover leafs as of today....
worked 4 hard years to reach this stage, and hopefully we can all cry and laugh together. I just hope the programs don't write mean rejection letters...
To all the MDs, DOs, and IMGs/FMGs, may the clover leafs be with u
:luck: :luck: :luck:
:luck: :luck:
:luck: :luck:
:luck: :luck: :luck:
PS SDN would only allow me to post 10 clover leafs...I guess I will start plucking them after 3 days

orientedtoself 10-19-2005, 02:29 PM Thirteen days are too long- I don't have enough fingers and toes to count on! But really, remember we're M4's, and we won't have life this easy for the next three years, or possibly the rest of our lives.

I did a practice interview with the OB/GYN course director today. No, it's not a change of heart- I'm not planning on swimming with the placentas. It actually made me nervous, though, getting into my suit and carrying my leather folder around. I'm glad I did it. I just hope I'm not a wreck for the real thing. Hopefully I have worked out most of the jitters.
InternalWhizzzz 10-21-2005, 01:09 AM dude(tte)....you forgot to take off a clover today!!!
actually, today is the 21st, and we still have more than 10 days left to november 1st, right? so can't take a clover off now..
in other news, today is my BDAY!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPIEEEEEEEEEE

this is a great thread!
:D
orientedtoself 10-22-2005, 02:35 PM Ahem, yes. This thread is off the hook! I think things have slowed down for people. It looks like the anesthesia guys/girls have more fun than us future internists.
InternalWhizzzz 10-23-2005, 12:48 PM This is a reminder, that now there are eight days...

so how exactly will things unfold after Nov 1st? all the programs will download the dean's letter simultaneously, and then there will be a flurry of new interview invitations that will go out... sort of like a ready, set, go type of thing? then everyone will scamper to get there schedules together, fill in the gaps, replace some interviews with the better ones that they have heard from post-Nov 1....
its almost freaking me out that my first interview is in less than 2 weeks... i have a feeling things are gonna start moving real fast....

I heard after november 1st, you will start getting like a bumper crop of interview invites, and maybe even rejections during the first week after november 1st...that is what I was told from prevous pple who went through the process...we will see...

orientedtoself 10-25-2005, 02:04 PM I hope things pick up, because otherwise I will have saved a week and a half block in the middle of December for no good reason.
megacolon 10-25-2005, 02:32 PM I never realized how easy it would be to get sucked in to blogging like this. I wonder if everyone picks their name about something that cracks them up in medicine. For example, when I first heard the phrase toxic megacolon, it just made me laugh. I have a friend that is waiting for the day he can write on someone's evaluation....well developed, well nourished fe/male with, AOx3 with NAD...I thought of that story because of oriented to self's name.
Where did this idea of mass acceptance/rejection on Nov. 1st come from? Is it related to the Dean's Letter. Mine has already been uploaded on ERAS. At any rate, no one has downloaded it yet...funny since they seemed to download stuff quicker before but now they don't download that much.
6 days to go!
ERAS account...I love you
orientedtoself 10-25-2005, 02:58 PM Often post call I find myself A&O X1. . .
Re: Nov. 1- programs can't download your Dean's letter until then.
InternalWhizzzz 10-25-2005, 04:27 PM you guys are so funny...who would have thought that there would be med students, or future interns who could have a sense of humor...
I thought everybody would be jaded by now...
half of my friends are divorced, bitter, miserable, hate life and are reconsidering medicine altogether...
but you guys bring a smile to my face, u guys are such dorks...
good luck to u all

4 days left you say? only 4 days?????
i love countdowns.
by the way, i'm really excited about the fact that my chairman's letter isn't even in yet. i think that's really sweet. it has made this whole week soooo much more enjoyable for me. this is exactly the sort of drama that my adrenals make a living off of. and where on earth would i be without my adrenals? in fact, if my chairman's letter had been in on time, i probably would have been facing an Addisonian crisis right now. instead, i get to sit back and enjoy this awesome buffalo hump.
bing.

well if it's any consolatoin, I somewhat exaggerated...yes the dean's letter is released on Nov. 1st, but it's not like the PDs just wait for the letter and release all the interviews...it takes a couple of deliberations after that when they unleash all the interview and rejections :scared:

This is like waiting for Christmas, or waiting to get out of jail, or some combination of the two. A chimera. Program Directors get to be Santa. Have you been naughty or nice?

depends, are we specifically talkin about what we did last night? ;) :p
metastatic dz 10-29-2005, 09:11 PM Not to prematurely end the countdown, but my school just released MSPEs. Does early release happen often?
phatfarm 10-29-2005, 10:50 PM Does early release happen often?
Is that what the girls ask you?
J/k, of course!
My MSPE is also already uploaded ... surprising, as I was led to believe that Nov 1st is THE day and the ONLY day.

It might be uploaded already, but I don't think that programs can actually download the Dean's letter until Nov 1st.

Good one!
I knew the customary "your mama" joke was coming, but still couldn't resist.
Good luck, everyone. I'm sure you'll get the interviews that you want this coming week (+/- a few days). I too am anxiously awaiting to see what the week has in store for me. Plus I find out whether I passed Step 2 CK or not.
InternalWhizzzz 10-31-2005, 08:24 AM :luck:
i just hope i dont get some interviews called back after they see my ob/gyn eval comments.... :D

hahaha, that's awesome! ;)
orientedtoself 11-01-2005, 11:17 AM So, here we are, November 1st. I checked MyERAS to see who has downloaded my Dean's letter, and it told me to get lost and come back in three hours. That got me thinking about how things must have been like in the old days, when sending the Dean's letter meant that the letter was actually stuffed and sent. Then I started wondering if they had Xerox machines back then, because when I was a kid I remember the homework assignments were always purple and on ditto paper. Since I can't check MyERAS, and I haven't gotten any new interviews, I found a wikipedia entry on ditto machines. Here it is if you are interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_duplicator
Happy Waiting!
InternalWhizzzz 11-01-2005, 12:09 PM wow, so this thread has been seen 2,350 times! guess alot of pple are bored...
november 1st is here...and it's all quite on the western front :scared:
orientedtoself 11-01-2005, 12:21 PM I posted, then I immediately got an interview offer. I think it's causal. More people should consider posting.
ucladukes 11-01-2005, 12:41 PM November 1st. Wow.....talk about anti-climactic
postme 11-01-2005, 12:42 PM Alright, did someone from MGH really download my Dean's letter at 2:42 this AM?? And I thought I was eager to get this process rolling......
P.S. Yeah, screw OB/GYN. I too am ready for the interview retractions once they see my eval.......

postme, you are so good you keep the PD at MGH up ALL NIGHT! ;)
megacolon 11-01-2005, 01:48 PM I'm posting to see if orientedtoself's causal relationship applies to me. We'll see.
upekkha 11-01-2005, 02:08 PM I'll post too to get another interview -- this is science at its best.
MGH downloaded mine at 2:20 am. Yes, that concerned me! Cornell downloaded at like 4:45 this morning. I pictured some poor office worker that had to stay and download all night when s/he should have been at home asleep, not being crazy like us doctor types!
Well, good to see November, historically my least favorite month of the year. I think this November, though it may be gray and cold as usual, will be full of distractions and trips and thinking about the future, so it should be fun.
orientedtoself 11-01-2005, 02:29 PM
Well,
The night is still young, but it looks like my yield for Nov. 1st is. . . 1 interview!

InternalWhizzzz 11-01-2005, 02:57 PM Is it just me, or have the floodgates yet to be opened?
I think it will take them a week now to read over the dean's letters...argh, and we have to buy plane ticket soons, since the faires are going up  :scared:

I think they have some automated FTP function that downloads all new information on a regular basis.
I know you were joking; I was just looking for an excuse to post since everyone thinks it's good luck...
upekkha 11-01-2005, 03:09 PM :)

yeah, you can say that again.

uhhhh, maybe its automatic. i doubt an office worker has to sit there and manually download your stuff.

well my yield for November 1st is a big fat ZERO.
Zolpidem25 11-01-2005, 05:51 PM OK, so this completes 5 posts in a row. :D
now i can go to bed. and tomorrow, I will awaken to an inbox flooded with interviews!!!
inositide 11-01-2005, 05:51 PM There is no such thing as the November 1st flood. There are probably another few weeks. If invites have not come by then, there is a somewhat strong chance that they may never come.
InternalWhizzzz 11-02-2005, 02:14 PM man, talk about a BIG Thud...I'm buying my airplane tickets...any other program that sends invitations, will have to squeeze in somehow..
If I can't schedule them in, then I will move them to January....
so today is officially, s/p cloverx1 nov. 1st...
:luck:
we will continue this until the floodgates open...
Ice-1 11-02-2005, 07:25 PM I got quite a few invites before 11/1 with no dean's letter downloaded. Do people actually pay attention to those standadized things?
InternalWhizzzz 11-08-2005, 09:55 AM :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: well 1 week post November 1st, and it's slower than when I submitted my application 4 weeks ago
Ok, I'm buying my plane ticket and reserving hotels...I guess if I get any other interviews, then I might not be able to go. I can't really afford it at this point, plane tickets have skyrocketed..
