View Full Version : Is glojan enough... daact 11-04-2005, 04:30 PM Is the Glojan RR pathology enough for the pathology section for USMLE I ? Thx DOCTORSAIB 11-04-2005, 08:07 PM Is the Glojan RR pathology enough for the pathology section for USMLE I ? Thx His name is spelled "Goljan" and pronounced "Gol-yawn". Minor point. The answer to your question from what I've read/heard: Yes, it is but I'm sticking to my BRS path book  OSUdoc08 11-04-2005, 08:13 PM Is the Glojan RR pathology enough for the pathology section for USMLE I ? Thx Yes, but you may use additional sources. bonovox 11-04-2005, 08:47 PM YES I'm curious... what's the avg Step 1 score at your school? That's where Goljan teaches, no? OSUdoc08 11-04-2005, 09:09 PM I'm curious... what's the avg Step 1 score at your school? That's where Goljan teaches, no? I don't have that information, but he did tell us that it is above the national average. 99-100% pass rates on USMLE & COMLEX over the last few years, but they never have published the average. I do know of some specific people that had scores above the 90th percentile. Pox in a box 11-05-2005, 04:49 AM YES I think you're putting too much stock in Goljan. He's not a miracle worker. Don't get me wrong in that he's good at what he does. Without actually taking Step 1, how can you make that assumption? OSUdoc08 11-05-2005, 08:31 AM I think you're putting too much stock in Goljan. He's not a miracle worker. Don't get me wrong in that he's good at what he does. Without actually taking Step 1, how can you make that assumption? 1. Why does everyone beg for his audio & notes? 2. Why are there so many of his things being sold on ebay? 3. Why is he in such high demand as a Kaplan teacher? 4. Why does our school have such a high pass rate on the COMLEX AND USMLE? 5. Why are we even having this discussion in the first place? There must be something there. Idiopathic 11-05-2005, 08:54 AM Ill make the assertion, as someone who has taken Step I, and is preparing for Step II. If youmanaged to actually get taught by him, you would need no other source to pass Step 1, that included pharm, anatomy, etc. Because he gives you most everything you need. If you are just reading the RR book, it is probably a little irresponsible of me to suggest that you shouldnt supplement RR with BRS or another small path source (i.e. not Robbins). Its all about minutia and different sources sometimes have different minutia. I dont know the average USMLE Step 1 score, although I know that in my class (of 06) we had about 50 people sit for USMLE Step 1, and all passed. I think most of the scores were near the mean (with a few outliers), and I chalk that up to people preparing for two tests, and most of them taking the USMLE one to two days after the COMLEX. I think that last years class did well also, with only one person out of 88 failing board exams. To top that off, what I remember for Step II from pathology class 18+ months ago is infinitely greater than what I remember from my rotations (maybe because attendings tend to give you their own advice, which doesnt always jibe with the national board's). So there you go. He is enough, his info is usually enough, but one without the other and you might not get the full effect. He is brilliant, however, and needs to be seen to be believed. Pox in a box 11-05-2005, 01:48 PM Yes, but you may use additional sources. Thanks for the edit. You were going to be misleading people, big time. Long Dong 11-05-2005, 03:59 PM Is the Glojan RR pathology enough for the pathology section for USMLE I ? Thx Depends on what you want, to do well I'd say NO, but to pass the path questions, then maybe. I used his stars path review book, listened to his lectures 5 times while working out, did robbins review of path twice, did almost all questions sources he has out RR, BSS, remembered questions, etc., and first aid path. Result an * on the right for path on my score report. This is what I used to learn path for my course work as well, and didn't have to open a text book during second year. |
