It's program dependent. Generally the more competitive IM programs tend to look at everything including medical school grades because they have to. If you are applying for fellowship as an inside candidate, grades are almost meaningless as you will be primarily judged on your reputation as a resident.

Is it correct to say that an above average IM resident can obtain a cardiology fellowship despite med school grades then? Also, do IM residents that feel that they are cardiology bound undergo a different or more particular resident curriculum than general internists?
