PAThbrd 11-15-2005, 09:05 AM Hey all,
Just wanted to say I got an email from CSU (Colorado) yesterday saying my application was complete and they will mail letters by the end of January. Other than that, havent heard anything. :)
verbal_kint 11-15-2005, 10:17 AM Hey all,
Just wanted to say I got an email from CSU (Colorado) yesterday saying my application was complete and they will mail letters by the end of January. Other than that, havent heard anything. :)
Davis has also sent out emails as well.
PAThbrd 11-15-2005, 04:32 PM I changed the thread name to news from anywhere (as opposed to just CSU :)). I got a "we received your completed app..." email from Tufts today.
Let the waiting continue...
chris03333 11-15-2005, 04:37 PM Good luck to you all :luck:
HARLEY D. 11-15-2005, 10:22 PM Application complete at Davis, interview at Glasgow.
HopefulUGACVM 11-16-2005, 06:46 AM I get emails from UGA all the time, and Auburn has been good about making sure I know when they have received transcripts, test scores etc. Tennessee has not notified me that they have received anything.
Unfortunately I won't hear anything "official" from UT or Auburn until Jan-Feb when they send out interview invites.... I won't hear anything from UGA until March since they don't interview.
March is too far away!!!!!!!!
Here goes.
I was rejected by Penn today.
I guess as an out-of-stater with a cum. GPA of 3.5, sci. GPA of 3.2; and GRE scores of 610 (v), 560 (q), and 5.5 (w)...they are not interested.
All I can say is "thank you Penn" for letting me know now instead of later. I am ESPECIALLY relieved to know that I will NOT have to pay over 30 grand for the education you offer!
Your loss, Penn. ;)
Good luck to all and may we all be granted an acceptance this year! :luck:
loo
PAThbrd 12-07-2005, 05:49 PM :( Sorry to hear that. May we all have as upbeat an attitude as you when rejection letters come ;) Where else did you apply?
Good luck all!
verbal_kint 12-07-2005, 05:50 PM How did Penn let you know?
I recently got a postcard from Penn asking me for some further information... not sure what that means exactly.
Sorry. Here's some additional info.
1. Where else did I apply?
Illinois, Tufts, Minnesota, LSU, Virgina Tech (VMRCVM), Ross, and St. George
2. How Did Penn let me know?
A lovely letter, sent via snail mail. I don't remember what the letterhead looked like since it is lining the birdcage at this moment. :D
Thanks for your condolences! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us.
How did Penn let you know?
I recently got a postcard from Penn asking me for some further information... not sure what that means exactly.
It means, "we don't have a supplementary application; and we are too busy to calculate your last 45 hour GPA, etc...why don't you do it?'
I would NOT recommend answering the "Penn alumnus" questions with the following answer:
No, there is no one in my family/no veterinarian that I know who is a Penn alumnus. I'd be happy to rent one if it would increase my chance of admission, though.
Must not become bitter, must not become bitter....
PAThbrd 12-07-2005, 08:20 PM No, there is no one in my family/no veterinarian that I know who is a Penn alumnus. I'd be happy to rent one if it would increase my chance of admission, though.
rofl!!! I would give you a dollar if you actually wrote that!
eighannelay 12-07-2005, 10:07 PM I received an e-mail Nov 3rd saying my app was complete at Western. Minnesota also sent out an update Nov 4th. Auburn has been good about keeping applicants informed on what they have/have not received. I haven't heard anything from UIUC or KSU yet. I am interviewing at OSU next week. Good luck to everyone!
Hmmmm.
Most of the schools I applied to won't be sending out interview invites until late December-early January...
Somebody please explain why the heck vet school application cycles take so frickin' long to complete???? Jeez...med/dent/pod/pharm applicants have already been interviewing and the process is JUST BEGINNING for vet applicants!!!! :thumbdown
Rant over, thanks for listening.
Congrats, eightannelay on your OSU interview! Good luck :luck:
rofl!!! I would give you a dollar if you actually wrote that!
A dollar? Honey, I'm worth more than that!
How much would you give me if I said I would "shag a ugly Penn alumnus if it would increase my chance of admisson?" ;)

lol I dont know I'd have to think about it :)
DVM2b 12-12-2005, 11:43 PM I heard from KSU about two weeks ago and I have an interview in January. Tennessee, WSU and Purdue have not acknowledged my application. Has anyone heard anything from these schools?
Congrats! :)
It seems schools out west are *quicker* in beginning the interviewing process?
Any thoughts on this?
PerfectBrak 12-13-2005, 05:00 PM I applied to Cornell (in-state), Penn, Colorado, Michigan State, Virginia/Maryland, and RVC. Anyone else apply to Cornell, I feel like I'm the only one here who did.
So far, everyone has notified me about receiving my application/transcript/other materials. Virginia/Maryland promptly rejected me, only took them about a month and a half! They did send a nice letter though.
ptang 12-15-2005, 03:38 PM wow this sounds so interesting. making me nervous.....
peppermintgal 12-16-2005, 07:55 AM me too.. i am getting nervous.. i have applied to UIUC, Wisconsin and Colorado..
Have not heard anything regarding interviews or anything.. But. they would only be replying in Jan. Still nervous though. :scared:
mysterypie 12-16-2005, 07:29 PM Wow, OSU must just do things incredibly early compared to most schools. I received my interview notice mid-November and to me that felt late considering many of my friends were interviewed in mid-October and already knew their status by end of October. I was accepted a week-and-a-half after my interview.
The wait is over for me as I didn't apply anywhere else, but good luck to everyone!
peppermintgal 12-16-2005, 09:11 PM Congrats Mystery Pie... :)
COuld i know what your stats were like?
ptang 12-17-2005, 12:14 AM Wow, OSU must just do things incredibly early compared to most schools. I was accepted a week-and-a-half after my interview.

holy... u applied to ONE school?!?!??! ur in-state i presume?
mysterypie 12-17-2005, 09:04 AM Yes, Ohio is my residence, so OSU is my state school. I guess I just didn't feel the need to apply elsewhere because the statistics for admittance are so much lower.
My stats are 750 q, 580 v, (1330) and 5.0 writing (timed out on one of the essays mid-setence). I have a 3.81 overall GPA and a 3.96 prerequisite GPA (also last 45 quarter hour). I am 25, graduated from a small liberal arts college in Massachusetts in 2003 with a BA in sociology and fine arts. I had taken 0 science class unless you count a science for non-majors genetics course I took just to fulfill latin honors requirements. I did have quite a few extracurriculars including varsity diving for all four years of college and being captain for two years. I also had a lot of other leadership-type experiences like coaching diving lessons and working in a mentorship program for disadvantaged youth.
After college, I took a year off to work full-time in a veterinary hospital to make sure vet med was the right choice for me. I started in the kennel and worked my way to treatment technician after about 4 months. That job was small animal and exotics. I stayed there a year and then in 2004 I moved back to ohio to finish my science prereqs. I also worked as a tech asst. in an emergency hospital that only saw cats and dogs. What else, I interned at a wildlife center and a sports equine hospital and volunteered in one of the labs that is part of the school of veterinary preventative med at OSU. Overall, in two years, I acquired about 2500 hours of experience while going to school. At one point I was working four of those jobs together and taking OChem and Biology. Granted all four together were only about 35 hours a week but it was still crazy rushing from one thing to another.
So the moral of the story is, it is possible to get into vet school and not know you wanted to be a vet from the day you were 5. But it would have been much easier had I decided while I was still an undergraduate.
Again, good luck to all!
peppermintgal 12-18-2005, 06:47 AM hi mysterypie,
Thanks for posting your stats.. it's really impressive!
Good Luck in School.
PAThbrd 12-18-2005, 10:37 AM Congrats mysterypie!!! Our first accepted DVM to be of the year :)
ptang 12-19-2005, 01:59 AM hey guys,
where is upenn locatedl. philadelphia? west/east?
HopefulUGACVM 12-19-2005, 06:57 AM Congrats mystery pie!!! You will love OSU!! I have a friend that is a 3rd Year and she loves OSU.
Aside from my experience, extracurriculars and research work my stats suck. Especially compared to yours! Just graduated with a 3.36 and a 3.61 science gpa. Last 45... 3.36. Consistent at least. My general GRE is an 1100 with a 5v. Biology GRE is 750 (for UGA... which is good, avg last year was about 600)
I feel like if I get in this year it will be a miracle, but I have pretty much accepted the fact that I am probably applying again next year. Not to be all doom and gloom, but just being realistic here. It is tough to get in with great stats and most of mine are just average.
One day right? :D

nutellagirl 12-19-2005, 03:38 PM Hi everyone. I'm (a post-bacc 32 year old former journalist) writing from New York City- have been reading these threads for the past few weeks and figured I'd post. Well... Davis has sent replies to out-of-staters. At least this one. Rejection. :thumbdown Thin letter. Fun. I know, it's to be expected - I'm applying as an out-of-stater (although I was born and raised there through junior high). Still, the "We regret to inform you that you will not be a member of our incoming Fall 2006 class" bit smarts. Cornell is my top choice, and according to their admissions office, they're aiming to tell in-staters on Christmas. I know, sounds weird. But I have called about three times to verify that. The first week of January, definitely.
Good luck to everyone- I really did not anticipate the anguish of this protracted waiting game.
-Elisabetta Coletti
Dafuzzy 12-19-2005, 08:26 PM Exciting! Do you know how they will contact us by any chance? I have vacation for the next couple of weeks, so if they are only doing it by mail, then I'll be missing it! That would suck! Will they have it on the Cornell tracking page by any chance?

A friend of mine goes to Cornell now. When she was accepted, they actually called her a few day before Christmas. She also went to Cornell for undergrad and applied to Vet School when she was a junior, so I dont know if all accepted students get a phone call.

The admissions office says they'll call. I hope they call only with acceptances though :scared: I think it is also going to be on the tracking page too. This waiting is almost more than I can stomach.

I highly doubt they'll call for rejections.
AbbeyRoad 12-21-2005, 07:18 PM Hi everybody;
I'm new here, I was just wondering if anyone knows how Penn, Iowa or Mississippi State will notify the applicants of whether they are rejected or got an interview (I know Iowa does not interview). I heard others say that Penn will let you know around this time whether or not you got an interview (a few of my friends were already rejected, sadly) but I am worried that they would send a letter letting me know either way to my college address, and I am at my home address now for the holidays. Thanks, all, for your insight, and good luck! :)
eighannelay 12-21-2005, 08:46 PM I found out today that I have been accepted to Ohio State CVM as well. I had an interview last week. It looks like we will be classmates, mysterypie.
HopefulUGACVM 12-22-2005, 06:37 AM Congrats to you too eighannelay!!! Y'all are so lucky to know so quick. I won't know until April!!!
nutellagirl 12-22-2005, 07:26 AM I was accepted at the Royal School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh, Scotland yesterday. It is very far, and my husband won't be able to leave New York for my first year at least, so that is someowhat of a pyrrhic victory. However, it is AVMA accredited and the 4 year accelerated program for US students with bachelor's degrees and post-bacc pre-med coursework completed, so you essentially skip the 1st year of the standard 5-year program.

I hope you get THE phone call from Cornell! :luck:

skibum 12-22-2005, 03:45 PM Hey Nutellagirl,
I too got the UCDavis rejection letter a couple of days ago. Congrats on Edinburgh! My fingers are still crossed for you for Cornell. Let us know when you hear.
AbbeyRoad, I do know that Iowa State sends out acceptances pretty late (End of Jan-Mid Feb) and they let you know by standard mail. The other two I don't know about however.
Congrats to those of you accepted and good luck to those waiting to hear. This is my third time going through the process, so I feel everyone's pain. The waiting sucks, especially when it ends in a rejection, but we all survive. :D
mokadet 12-22-2005, 04:53 PM I heard from KSU about two weeks ago and I have an interview in January. Tennessee, WSU and Purdue have not acknowledged my application. Has anyone heard anything from these schools?

HopefulUGACVM 12-22-2005, 04:57 PM Tenessee has not acknowledge my application either.

Thank you!!!!!!! I actually called Cornell today and asked the (very patient) receptionist if not getting a call tomorrow essentially meant I was not accepted. She thankfully said no. STILL.....!!!!!!!!!!!
I just got hosed by Virginia Tech too.
I haven't heard a thing from Tennessee either.
Ditto from Washington State until today when I got an email saying that I was missing like 7 pre-reqs :meanie: including Intro Bio and all my orgo classes. Where do they get this crud? All I am missing is stats - it's right there on my very expensive VMCAS application!
traxomatic 12-22-2005, 07:52 PM I just received a letter in the mail today letting me know I have an interview on January 20th at UPenn! I'm a PA (Philadelphia) resident. Anyone else heard?

I was wondering the same thing; so I called Penn this morning, and was told that interview letters are being sent to both college and permanent addresses. They have not scheduled all of February or March yet, they said, so don't be concerned if you do not get an invitation to interview this week or next week. They will be sending out the interview invitations 2-3 weeks in advance of the interview date, so technically we could have to wait as late as February to even hear from Penn...

So we should receive two letters then? One at school and one at home if Im reading that right... Thanks for the info!
Good luck all.

Yep, that's what it sounded like to me. I got my interview letter today, for Jan. 20th also (so I will see you there maybe, traxomatic!)
I am thinking maybe they are doing the interviews alphabetically, because my last name starts with a B.
eighannelay 12-23-2005, 08:36 PM Yes, I am from Northeast Ohio... are you in the Columbus area now or will you be moving?

Dafuzzy 12-23-2005, 10:04 PM Anyone heard from Cornell today? According to Nuttella, they were supposed to call or email by the end of today. . .I've heard nothing.
On the good news, I also got a UPENN interview today for Jan 20, although I have a final that day, so I guess I'm going to have to reschedule the interview (does anyone know their policy regarding rescheduling interviews? Are they lenient about this?).

mysterypie 12-24-2005, 08:26 PM Yes, I am from Northeast Ohio... are you in the Columbus area now or will you be moving?
Yes, I am in Columbus now. Originally from Dayton, College in Massachusetts, spent some time in Maryland and then moved to Columbus last year to finish up prereqs.
It sounds like you'll be making a move for vet school, although I could be wrong. I'll be looking for a new roommate for next fall if you're interested. I think it would make life so much easier to live with other vet students but I'm sure many people would disagree since we'll be living, sleeping, and eating vet school pretty soon.

AbbeyRoad 12-28-2005, 09:37 PM Congratulations Nutellagirl! I didn't even apply to Cornell; I know how selective they are with out-of-staters. You're so lucky; Cornell is such a good school and in a beautiful location! I wish you all the best there! Oh, I would've cried too...hahah.. :o Are you still going to interview elsewhere? Congrats again!
peppermintgal 12-28-2005, 09:52 PM Congrats Nutellagirl! The wait is finally over.. Cornell is really a top choice school.

Thank you all for the encouragement. That call meant everything. I am still a little numb, despite my initial cathartic sobs to the director of Cornell admissions. I know that I am very fortunate to have heard so early, and pray that all of you get the news you have worked so hard for in the weeks to come. I have a microbiology take home final due today and I am too wound up to focus!
So, for my stats:
I'm a married post-bacc 32 year old former journalist living in New York City. I graduated from Harvard in 1997 (I am class of 1995 however, but took a couple of years off here and there) cum laude in Romance Languages and Literatures. I had wanted to be an MD since I was a little girl and started pre-med like every other 17 year old and just could not stomach the competition and freaky Harvard crud. I became a correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor in Boston and had a Pew fellowship to Johns Hoipkins SAIS and to report on child labor in Morocco. (I am a language collector) Then I was hired by the Associated Press international desk in New York and was going to be posted in Cairo the following year, but 9/11 happened and I was one of the many journalists laid off. I was essentially unemployed for the next 1.5 years (getting by nannying, etc.) as there were just no jobs to be found. Great for the self esteem. For my 30th birthday, my husband gave me a cocker puppy who turned out to be very sick (he's ok now  ),and I started to think about medicine again, and eventually had the epiphany that I had always wanted to be a doctor, but just not the kind who treats humans (I had also been considering whether entering the seminary to become an Episcopal priest was right for me). Anyways, 2 years ago, I started working in my dog's clinic and took a chem class at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, was able to hack it, took the summer chem course and then started full time at Hunter.
I had about 650 hours as a paid vet assistant at that small clinic, 550 as a paid tech at a 24 hour vet hospital the next spring and summer, 300 hours volunteering at an equine hospital in Orgeon, 500+ hours this summer at The Animal Medical Center in Manhattan (the Mayo Clinic of the pet world) doing their unpaid full-time 10 week internship as a clinic aide, and about 300 hours of research with lab rats (which was very tough emotionally) FOURTEEN YEARS ago the summer before I started Harvard.
My academics were iffy as an undergrad. I worked hard and got As and Bs, but Cum laude doesn't mean what it means now- the standards are tighter these days. I had somewhere around a 3.3-3.4 (Harvard had a different GPA scale:Groups I-XV  ), including what counts as an F (but is kindly called "Absent") at Harvard for panicking and just deciding to bail on my physics for poets final, a B- in Bio (that really should have been lower ) because I also left the final after 10 minutes in a panic, and withdrew one term after some family stuff.
I did very well in my post-bacc: about a 3.77, all As and A+s except for an A- in Gen Chem 2, a B-in Orgo 1 and a B in Orgo 2 (those two grades being the proudest I have ever earned) and took the GRE once in April: 670 V (94%) and 750 M, 5.5 A.
To any of you who have also not considered yourself "sciency," I had to work my butt off to keep up with the material and not succumb to major waves of inadequacy. But it is possible. There is just nothing else that clicks for me but veterinary medicine, and I feel so blessed that the thought occurred to me.
Happy New Year!
Elisabetta Coletti

Yes, I am going to be making a move for vet school. My boyfriend and I are planning on moving down this summer after our wedding.
When you found out you got in did they call you? They called me last wednesday and I am waiting on my letters/info to arrive. Have you got yours yet? How long before it reached you? haha, as you can see I am not impatient or anything :p

Now you can relax and not worry about admissions anymore! Hehe...you've earned it.
If anyone else applied to Mississippi State, I got an email this morning saying that I have an interview in February.
Gr8DaneGirl 12-30-2005, 06:40 PM Hey everyone,
I have applied to UPenn, UC Davis, Colorado, Auburn, Tuskegee, Western U, and Kansas. I have an interview at Kansas on the 7th (yikes). But I haven't gotten any news from any other schools (except to confirm that my app was complete).
PsychoLulu 01-03-2006, 04:57 PM I was just accepted to Cornell today and started sobbing uncontrollably when the dean of admissions told me. I just could not help it.
Congrats Nutellagirl! I got the same call today, and while I didn't start sobbing, I believe my exact words to the Dean of Admissions were "Oh My God! Are you serious? Are you, um, sure?" (How very eloquent of me...) The dean was nice enough to humor me and reply that he was indeed serious, but I still didn't believe him until the follow-up email came 10 minutes later. (For the record, my document tracking page still says "File In Review".)
It sounds like we've got a lot in common (am also a non-traditional student from NYC), and I'm looking forward to meeting a fellow Cornell DVM Class of 2010er!

Again, congratulations congratulations congratulations!

Where did you do your post-bacc? I called Cornell today to verify that I was in fact accepted... and that I didn't need to take any more classes. So now, I guess I need to get a job and pull my weight at home! Again, congratulations congratulations congratulations!
Elisabetta Coletti[/QUOTE]
Thank you!
I actually took a few post-bacc courses to finish up what I was still missing (Undergrad = Barnard, about 4 Post-Bacc classes from Barnard/Columbia/NYU). Oh, and I live in the UWS. I was just re-checking the requirements for Cornell to see if I need anymore course, and I'm pretty sure I don't (SO glad I don't have to take genetics this semester since Cornell was the only one that didn't want it...lol), but I think I might call again tomorrow just to be sure. Don't want to lose the admissions offer over something as silly as one class....
nutellagirl 01-03-2006, 05:40 PM Hi Andrea-
My sister Kathleen graduated from Barnard your year. I wonder if you two knew each other? Yes thank God about the genetics and the calculus I was about to start in a couple weeks. And I just verified with them that I did not need to take orgo 2 lab. BTW, I tutor around Lincoln Center 4 x a week.
Congratulations again!
Elisabetta

I thought your last name sounded famaliar! I don't know your sister personally, but her name definitely rings a bell. And  on sliding by the orgo lab 2 (same here for me)....
Do you tutor privately or with a school in my area?
(And, of course, congrats again to you too! Am still in shock over the fact that I got in....)
weeziefive 01-04-2006, 09:47 PM :D :D I got accepted to vet school at Murdoch University in Perth, Australia. I am so excited. I actually withdrew all my other applications I had in.
Why Australia?? I will get to travel to another country and actually enjoy the culture and study at a good school, of which is accredited. And an added bonus is the fact that I will pretty much be able to work anywhere in the world upon completion of my degree.
I work with 5 veterinary pathologists all of whom are graduates from other countries and are amongst the brightest doctors that I have encountered.
I would definetly encourage more to apply to international schools. There are many that are accredited and are cheaper than paying out-of-state tuition, including in-state (U.C.Davis 28,000-30,000 and going up;Western 30,000 and going up).
Good luck to all and dont give up.
PAThbrd 01-04-2006, 10:01 PM Congrats weezie! and congrats to all our accepteds thus far.
Wish I had exciting news to share, but alas, despite my best mailman stalking efforts, no news. I did, however, receive an email from Tufts just a bit ago, as I'm sure all fellow Tufts applicants received. The first paragraph was wonderfully encouraging suggesting acceptance or interview invite may be looming, followed by the second paragraph with depressing statistics about 80 spots for 700+ applicants and the "challenging decisions" the ad. com. faces which suggested rejection, promptly followed by instructions to increase the stalking of the mailman in the coming weeks for real news. Gut clenching elation and despair with no real news. At least I now know when I see their name in my mailbox again it will be for real ;)
Best of luck all!

I think we have a writer/poet in our midst!
I applied to Tufts as well and recieved the exact same email....aaarrrggghhh!
Let the mailbox stalking season officially begin.
katemez 01-05-2006, 11:44 AM Congrats Weezie! I will likely be at the island next door (New Zealand) where I've been accepted at Massey. I agree with you that more people should consideration international accredited schools! I still have applications in at a few US schools (Tufts, Penn and Wisconsin), but am so excited about the prospects of living overseas for awhile that I'm not sure I could pass it up.

That is very awesome. I have applications into both schools in Scotland, Canada and was going to finish up my application for London when I found out. One of the veterinary pathologists I work for is from New Zealand and he has nothing but good things to say about it. We also just had a current vet student speak about Massey during one of our pre-vet meetings and it looks as though you are going to have a lot of fun and learn a lot. Good luck! I do want to visit the island during one of our mini breaks (that is if I have time).

I felt the same way! Once you start at a foreign school, be prepared to answer the question: "Why did you go way over there when you could have gone to XYZ (your in-state) school?" Then they insinuate that you have bad grades or weren't good enough for a US school (or you will feel that they're insinuating this). It becomes difficult to explain the excitement you have at the adventure of attending vet school overseas. The excitement is enough, and the fact that the school is accredited is enough - don't you think?
giles 01-08-2006, 04:01 PM
Nice one, Katemez. The Massey degree is apparently a lot of fun (as well as hard work!) according to the students I've spoken to. There're a few students from North America in most yearly intakes too, I believe. If you decide to go and want some more info about the school and/or NZ, I might be able to help, as I'm a NZer who got accepted into Massey last year (didn't end up going due to personal situation but that's another story).

mountain man 01-09-2006, 01:54 PM Hi Everyone, here is some information. Rejection from Illinois today 01/09, rejection from Purdue 01/06. Did anyone apply to LSU?
DVM2b 01-09-2006, 02:09 PM Hi Everyone, here is some information. Rejection from Illinois today 01/09, rejection from Purdue 01/06. Did anyone apply to LSU?
I applied to LSU and the only thing they have sent me was an email today to send my fall transcripts. I also applied to Purdue and have heard nothing but today's mail is not here yet. I am anxiously waiting.
mountain man 01-09-2006, 03:04 PM Yes I got that email from LSU too. It was kind of funny because if you read it again, it says "those being considered" please send fall transcripts. I was thinking to myself, perhaps people were rejected already, and I was being considered. LOL! :o
Good Luck! I will keep you posted if I hear anything else.
peppermintgal 01-09-2006, 06:55 PM Hi mountain man,
Did the rejection from UIUC come via the post or through email? I also applied to UIUC. As I don't live in the US, I would just like to know if i am going to expect a rejection letter in the post sometime soon. (Although.. i am of course hoping that i won't get that..but it's always good to be prepared)
Thanks for the information.
Well, got rejected by UIUC. I had no expectations since I am an out-of-state applicant.
I wish my rejection letter had been personally signed by the associate dean...pre-stamped signatures are sooo ghetto! :meanie:
mountain man 01-10-2006, 05:55 PM Hi, Yes the rejection from Illinois came in the form of a letter in the mail. I too am an out-of-state applicant, but I thought I had a chance there. I will keep you all posted on my status. By the way did anyone hear from Minnesota?
Boxsterluv 01-10-2006, 08:11 PM I just got an email from Western saying that they would start calling next week to invite people to interviews, then THE LETTERS saying yes, no, or alternate will be sent out March 15... wheez, wheez --> (me hyperventilating)
AbbeyRoad 01-10-2006, 09:18 PM anybody hear anything from Iowa yet?
DVM2b 01-11-2006, 12:10 AM anybody hear anything from Iowa yet?
The only thing I have received from Iowa was an email about three weeks ago saying my application was complete and has been forwarded to the committee for consideration.
AbbeyRoad 01-11-2006, 06:07 AM ok thanks! yeah i got that too i was just wondering how long it will take them :o
HopefulUGACVM 01-11-2006, 10:29 AM Still no news from Auburn, TN or UGA. Anxiously waiting for Auburn the most since they notify about interviews in Jan-Feb. But I'm trying to assume that since I am out-of-state I probably won't get any news until feb.
mokadet 01-11-2006, 02:54 PM Got my first rejection letter of the year on Monday (1/9) form Purdue. Anyone else getting this letter feel like it was saying there was something obviously wrong with your application?
Still waiting for any news from: Virginia, UGA, Auburn, Tufts, Colorado, Kansas, and Wisconsin
I know some people have already had interviews from Kansas, but has anyone had news from the other schools?
Thanks for the support everyone!
PAThbrd 01-12-2006, 09:50 AM So I just got off the phone with the Chair of the Admissions committee at North Carolina State and I have been accepted into the class of 2010!!! I am soooo excited :D They reviewed out of state applications last week and have been notifying accepted students! :)
Best of luck all!
AbbeyRoad 01-12-2006, 10:27 AM Wow thats great!! Congratulations :D

Way to go!!!!!Time to celebrate! :hardy:
Dafuzzy 01-12-2006, 02:35 PM Arf. . .just got waitlisted at Cornell today (electronic letter via the tracking website).
Does anyone know if the waitlist at Cornell is ranked? Or if it moves quickly (meaning a number of people get on each year?). How many people are on it? Or if you know anything besides its existence, I would really appreciate finding out. . .
Thanks!
Came back from doing some errands and whaddya know, I get 2 separate phone calls---one from Ross and one from St. George U. I was accepted to both :) .
I'm not knocking Ross or SGU, but I still hope I will be accepted in the States...a lot less expensive and less "administrative" hurdles to overcome.
JIKJen124 01-12-2006, 03:15 PM That's great! Congrats!! You can now rest assured that you're at least going somewhere:)

Congrats loo! Very exciting... its nice and warm in the Carribean, could be worth the "administrative hurdles"! :)
Congratulations Loo, and PAThbrd. Now, PAThbrd I see you are still waiting for Penn, are you going to continue, or are you heading south? :)
I'm still going to wait on Penn, its my in-state school and still my #1 choice (tied with Colorado). However, I am totally excited about NC State and would have no objections going there should the others fall through . I'm planning on visiting at some point, who knows, I may fall in love with it!
Hopefully everyone else will get exciting phone calls and letters soon! Being accepted is one of the greatest feelings I've ever experienced. It's like an all-encompasing reward for everything I've worked so hard at for the last several years and I hope everyone gets to experience that!
Best of luck all!

Congrats pathbrd and loo!!! Is it not the best feeling in the world. I cant even explain how I felt. I had to read the letter over and over to make sure it was real. Then I couldnt breathe and stated crying because it means that all my hard work and long hours paid off.
Loo, one of my friends is in his 3rd year at Texas A&M and when I was applying I was telling him that I was thinking about applying to Ross and St. George. He went and talked to his professors and they had very good things to say about the universities and a couple of the professors actually taught at the universities. Good luck.
peppermintgal 01-12-2006, 10:21 PM I was browsing the UIUC website.. interviews for UIUC would be on the 27-Feb.
Interviewing over 300 students for 115 places..

Thanks weeziefive! I definitely did my research on Ross and SGU before I applied and would attend either if I didn't get in a US school. Why? Both schools attract quality teaching and have high NAVLE passage rates, Ross is already in the process of AVMA accreditation (although realistically, it may take 2-4 years to occur), and the quality of grads is comparable to US grads (have experienced this myself and talked extensively with vets who have extended experience with carribbean grads). The only downside I see with carribbean schools is the cost and extra hurdles (ECFVG, PAVE) to practice.
I have a feeling that a lot of us will be hearing from schools next week...here's a load of good luck to any of us who hasn't heard anything yet!
:luck: :luck: :luck:
Crap--duplicate post. Please ignore.
Well, I have another rejection from Minnesota. Looks like I missed their academic cutoffs by 0.03 of a point.
Oh well. I would have liked to attend. Then again---cold winters are too much for my southernized blood.
How ya holdin' up mountain man?
PerfectBrak 01-14-2006, 12:27 PM I came back from vacation yesterday to find I was rejected from Cornell. Hehe, what a way to bring me back to the real world after a relaxing week! I'm actually not that dissapointed, I'll wait to hear from other schools and if I'm unlucky with those as well, I'll just try again next year.
Congratulations/condolences to all!
eighannelay 01-14-2006, 01:07 PM Well, I got an interview invite to Univ of MN today. It was dated 1/10 and postmarked 1/12. Sorry they didnt show you love, loo. This is such a crapshoot, isn't it?!?!
Has anyone received a UIUC invite yet?
mountain man 01-14-2006, 01:24 PM Hi people! Sorry to hear about those rejections, I have 3/11 myself. I did not hear anything from Minnesota yet, but perhaps a rejection is on the way. You just got yours first Loo, so you must be one state closer than me, or maybe your at the top of the alphabet "who knows". I'm sure I will have one by next week. You are also waiting on Tufts too, is that correct? Do you know if anyone was rejected from there yet? :luck: have some!
Joslin 01-14-2006, 01:25 PM I too was rejected from MN today. Evidently I met their academic standards, but not their "subjective" (animal experience, essays, etc). I did receive an interview to Tufts. It's going to kill my Valentine's Day, but at least it's something.
mountain man 01-14-2006, 01:31 PM Hey Joslin, don't mind Minnesota because thats great news for Tufts! Good luck to you! :luck:
Mountain man :)
mountain man 01-14-2006, 01:34 PM I forgot to ask you eighannelay, are you a Minnesota resident?
eighannelay 01-14-2006, 01:40 PM I forgot to ask you eighannelay, are you a Minnesota resident?
No, I am an out of stater (from Ohio). Are you in MN? Hope you get some good news from them soon!
I already got in to OSU CVM so i am probably not going to interview at MN... i will have to ponder on it for a few days.......
mountain man 01-14-2006, 01:49 PM Thats great news eighannelay. I also applied to Ohio and I did not even know they were doing anything yet. I am a PA applicant. Well, after reading some of these posts I have mixed feelings about what I will get. I will keep my fingers crossed. Good luck to you with everything! :)

OSU started interviewing in state applicants immediately after there September 30th deadline. I knew someone who was interviewed and accepted by mid october. Anyway, I think they have finished most of their in state interviews by now and are moving on to out of state interviews January, February.
OSU accepts as the interview. Many people I know were told they were accepted at the end of their interview. I was notifed in a letter about 1.5 weeks after my late November interview. I don't know quite how it works for out-of-staters but you should be getting interview invites to OSU soon but you may not hear anything until as late at March.
Hope that helps! Leighann...are you defiantely going to OSU?
holdencaulfield 01-14-2006, 05:06 PM Hi Joslin- I'm in the same boat as you. Rejected from MN today with good academic standards but not the "subjective." Also interviewing at Tufts on Valentine's Day. Tuft's is my top choice and the skinny envelope nearly killed me. See you there!
PsychoLulu 01-14-2006, 05:23 PM Just checked the mailbox today, and had gotten interview requests from both Tufts and U of Minnesota, so both schools have started tapping into the out-of-staters. Tufts has me for Valentines Day, and Minnesota said they have non-resident interview beginning the week of Feb 10-11. I might go check out Tufts just because it was my top choice when applying, but since I'm already accepted to one place, I doubt I will be going to Minnesota, so hopefully someone on this list will make good use of the that spot! Also, got my rejection letters from Virginia-Maryland on 1/2 and UC Davis on 1/9.
Still, am pretty excited that I got interviews at other places as well, as this means my one acceptance wasn't a fluke! Also add to the fact that I previously applied to human medical schools 2 times, and have a HUGE collection of rejection letters, and only one interview+waitlist, to be so welcomed by the veterinary community just means that this was indeed what I was destined to do with my life, even if it did take me 6 years to figure it out....
meyao 01-14-2006, 06:22 PM Joslin, Holden, and others who recently got interviews at Tufts: did you just get the letter today (Saturday)? And what state or region (if you don't want to be more specific) do you live in?

And what state or region (if you don't want to be more specific) do you live in? I'm on the West Coast and expect that mail will take longer to get out here. (I have to keep telling myself this to keep from going crazy!!!)
I just checked my mail ten minutes ago, and all I got were some bills and Netflix DVDs!
Got the letter today (Sat), and I live in NYC, so give it another day or so? Don't worry!
meyao 01-14-2006, 06:45 PM Thanks!
And by the way, congratulations on Cornell!
Weren't you previously a premed student? What inspired you to switch over from people to animals?
It's REALLY NICE to see folks getting interviews! I'm pulling for all of us who haven't gotten any love yet---you know who you are ;)
Yup, mountain man--I'm lookin' for love at Tufts, but apparently I've been lookin' in the wrong places....I feel like the last kid left after all the all the others have been picked for the team.
OK, pity party over.
:luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:
JIKJen124 01-15-2006, 08:24 AM In-state OSU acceptees,
When did you guys submit your application? I assume by your early interviews that you probably sent stuff in fairly early, but if you could give me some sense of when that would be most helpful.
Thanks!
Jen

Yes, I think I am. It is hard to turn down interviews after dropping so much money into applications, though :( But i can't complain!
Do you know many other acceptees? I only know one other in-stater and he is still awaiting a response post interview.

Hi Jen,
I submitted my application on September 30. On the application tracking page it said my app was under academic review for the 1st 2 or 3 weeks. After that it said it was sent to the adcom for evaluation, and I got my interview invite in the mail 12/1. I interviewed 2 weeks later and then was accepted a week and a day after that by telephone. Hope that helps. Are you waiting to hear from them? Are you in state or out of state?
JIKJen124 01-15-2006, 12:57 PM Thanks for sharing:) I'm in-state (Cincinnati) and I'll be applying this summer. As I'm in-state and likely to end up doing equine, it's my very strong first choice. I'm actually planning on moving to Columbus for my application year, as I'm slogging through Organic 2, genetics, and microbio, while living with my folks and saving money.
Congrats again on your acceptance!

Thanks Meyao! I've been interested in vet med from a very young age, but I actually was kinda 'scared' out of pursuing animal medicine because everyone told me how much harder it was, and that I would have no chance in hell given my crappy GPA, and not so hot animal experiences.(yeah, I have a greaaaaatttt support system...lol). I tried settling for medicine, but the thing of it is, lifelong dream can't exactly be quieted, and I finally decided to give it a go! (Now I just have to make sure I don't flunk out... :p )
chickenboo 01-15-2006, 04:00 PM I just heard yesterday (1-14) that I got an interview at Minnesota. At this point I don't know if I'm more nervous about the actual interview or the weather...
Still waiting from OSU, Penn, Davis, and MI about interviews, and a yes or no from KS, CO, and WI.
By the way, for anyone who applied to KS--they accept about 80-90% of their interviewees, so if you've been interviewed, you have more than a good chance!
meyao 01-15-2006, 11:32 PM Good for you, Lulu. I'm glad you returned to your true love, so to speak.
By the way, after hearing about all the East Coasters who heard from Tufts yesterday, I was getting all set to stalk to mailman tomorrow.
And then I get on the phone with my dad, who asked me: "Do you get the day off tomorrow?" Me: "Why?" Dad: "It's a holiday!"
Remember those Peanuts cartoons when someone yells "AAAAARGH!!!"? :)

mountain man 01-16-2006, 10:28 AM Well Loo, I'm still looking for love too at Florida, Tennessee, Ohio, Penn, Tufts, Minnesota, LSU, and Guelph. I read your post about the last to be picked, but cheer up! :) We're in this together! I wanted to ask you before about where you interviewed for the island schools. Did you do it in the US, or did you go there? Here is some extra luck for the both of us! :luck: X (100000000000000000000000).
sorry about that, thats better
skibum 01-16-2006, 10:50 AM Congrats on everyone's acceptances. For those of you whose news wasn't as good, hang in there, your time will come. Take it from someone who is on their third attempt! As for me I got the interview invite from Minnesota, and I am 15th on the alternate list at NCState.
For those of you waiting to hear from Iowa State, I applied there 2 years ago and didn't hear until mid-February. As for CSU, I remember out-of-state applicants were starting to get rejected or accepted before I had heard anything about an interview (I live in CO), which I thought was weird. But I guess since they have a set number of seats for out of state/WICHE, they can treat us like 2 different applicant pools. I heard from CSU mid-late January.
Doesn't it make it all seem so real now? We turned our apps in so long ago, and we are finally beginning to hear.

As for Ross and SGU, here's the skinny. For both, you fill out the application, wait for review, then interview if selected. You can interview at either island (Ross-St. Kitts; SGU-Grenada), but most people do not choose this option. SGU has you interview with an SGU alumnus/regional representative *closest* to your geographic location. Same with Ross. I was interviewed by a Penn graduate (volunteered to be an interviewer because she was impressed with the education 2 of her former techs got there) in Virginia. I had to travel to NJ to interview with Ross. Feel free to PM me if you want particulars. I'm pulling for you too, man!
Congrats on everyone's acceptances. For those of you whose news wasn't as good, hang in there, your time will come. Take it from someone who is on their third attempt! As for me I got the interview invite from Minnesota, and I am 15th on the alternate list at NCState.
Yay! They say, third time's a charm, right? Does NC state usually go through their waitlist?
skibum 01-17-2006, 08:19 AM Let's hope so loo! In NC State's letter, they said they went through their entire alternate list of 35 last year. But as I've learned, every year is different and can be so random, so I'm not putting too much stock into that. I'll just sit here and cross my fingers!
PAThbrd 01-17-2006, 10:09 AM Received an interview invite from Tufts today. Letter was dated 1/12. My interview is scheduled for 2/14, yeah Valentine's day. :)
Best of luck all!
mokadet 01-17-2006, 07:05 PM Just got home to check the mail and I too will be spending my Valentine's Day at Tufts!! Pretty exciting, but also strange that EVERYONE that posts here has their interview on the same day.
Congrats to everyone! And those of you that haven't had happy news, hang in there. I was there last year, you've just got to have a little faith and keep working hard!
katemez 01-17-2006, 07:14 PM I also got a Tufts interview invite... for 2/13. Anyone know what percentage of people they interview are accepted? Or how soon they tell you after the interview?

I said the interview would ruin my Valentine's Day, but that's b/c it's on the 15th and it's a long drive. Actually, I'm one of the last to interview, hope that doesn't mean anything. I think I was in a similar spot last year.
DVM2b 01-17-2006, 07:32 PM I got an invitation to interview Feb. 17th at Purdue in the mail today. Does anyone know how many they interview and what percentage is accepted? I hope it doesn't conflict with my interview at Minnesota since they have not sent me my interview date.
chickenboo 01-17-2006, 07:44 PM I GOT INTO COLORADO!!!! I just got the letter today, 1-17. It's dated 1-13. I'm shaking I'm so happy!!!! Hope everyone else who applied hears good news!!

CONGRATS! Thats awesome, CSU is a great school... I'm really going to have to stalk the mailman now!

Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum, but I just got an interview at Tufts, and it's on the 9th. I am actually a grad student there now, and to answer your questions, they interview 240 people and they offer spots to 120 of those. From this point on it's a numbers game for them. Everyone is already ranked with a score and then everyone is given an interview score and that is worked into your score. They then meet as a comittee and talk over every applicant and make their decision.
Hope this helps and best of luck to all of you!
PS, I already got rejected from Purdue and Cornell, and I'm waiting to hear from Penn, Wisconsin and Colorado.
mokadet 01-17-2006, 07:52 PM Last year the interviews at Tufts were later (mine was Feb 28th) so it is hard to judge when their invitations will go out. I obviously didn't get in last year and my letter did not come until mid-March, perhaps, happy news comes sooner?
As far as numbers I know last year they got 540 out of state applicants (out of ~700 total which is about the same as this year) and they interview 150 (pretty sure this is right, 50 on each day). I'm basing this on the conversation I had with an admissions counselor after I was not accepted last year.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Tufts only accepts 80 actually. At least 40 seats go to MA residents, and contract seats are not reserved. So for NJ residents, if they happen to take 4 NJ students, they can use the contracts, but they don't have to offer any if they don't feel NJ students are qualified. It varies for schools. I only found that out after I applied last year. There's a chart on it somewhere as to which are reserved and which are optional. Just some extra info for you.

Congratulations! What a great way to start off the week (yesterday doesn't count b/c it was a HOLIDAY -- i.e. NO MAIL! :)
Was it a thin letter or a thick packet? Normal mail or Priority?

Thank you...I still can't believe it.
It was a fairly thick packet--they included a form and some financial aid info. (that's actually the first thing I saw when I opened the envelope) with the letter. It was sent by normal mail. Hope that helps, and best of luck to you!
Congrats, chickenboo!!!
Time to party... :hardy: :hardy: :hardy: :hardy: :hardy: :hardy: :hardy: :hardy:

I can't tell you how happy I am to finally be able to post one of these...after three rejections I was getting pretty bummed. Letter from Colorado came today and they are giving me $2000. I'm so excited! Finally!
Good luck to everyone!!!

chickenboo 01-18-2006, 12:31 PM Congrats!! Maybe I'll see you there :-)
Here's to another day in limbo.
Nothing from Virginia--I think I may be ranked lower and must wait until somebody turns down an interview.
Nothing from Tufts---They have not sent out all interview invitations yet; but I was told (by the admissions office) if I did not receive a letter by the end of next week to call for my status. I would interpret that as a rejection.
Called LSU--still organizing and getting ready for the process. Will find out via mail if accepted/denied. This is for non-resident/non-contract applicants.
Tomorrow is another day and brings the promise something good, maybe.
HopefulUGACVM 01-18-2006, 05:10 PM Anyone heard anything from Auburn or UGA or know anything about their timelines??
Nothing from either. I do know that you won't hear from UGA until last minute (somewhere around April 1st) ... Auburn, I have no idea. I thought they notified in January or Feb though and had interviews in Feb-March.

Loo,
Did someone in the admissions office tell you this (about not having yet sent out all the interview invites)?
What part of the country are you in? (Mail times can be slower to rural areas and locations far away from the point of origin. That's what I'm telling myself, anyway! :)

Yup, heard it straight from one of the admissions folks. I am in Baltimore, Maryland.
mokadet 01-19-2006, 07:56 AM So.... I just got an email from Georgia saying my application had been pulled because they never recieved my GRE Biology scores. Begin momentary panic attack. But of course I sent these scores months ago. I called down to GA and while I was on the phone they mysteriously turned up, "oh, here they are!"
ACK!
Surprisingly this is the THIRD school that has lost some portion of my application (Auburn lost GRE scores and Tufts lost transcripts). But the other two schools discovered the missing parts this past fall, whereas, Georgia seems to just now be getting around to sifting through the apps.
Long story short, I asked the woman about a timeline - when they would be mailing anything. She said they were AIMING for the beginning of March (she didn't seem confident that this was going to happen). So, I'm going to stick with the April 1 date from UGAhopeful~
traxomatic 01-19-2006, 06:05 PM I was notified today by phone that I have an interview at Western University in Feb (mine is Feb. 17th).
I have an interview at UPenn tomorrow, and I'm quite nervous! I've heard that they let you know if you're accepted by that night/next day. Is this still true? Has anyone been accepted to UPenn yet?

Bluejay224 01-19-2006, 07:05 PM Hey everyone!
I just found out I got into Colorado!! I think it is one of the best feelings ever when you work hard for something and it finally pays off. We wait so long that when it finally arrives, it becomes hard to believe......
Anyway, good luck to all of you!!

And congrats Bluejay! Is CSU your top choice? Are you going to the info. day?

I'm still waiting on: Davis, Western, CSU, UPenn, KSU, and Tuskegee. I've got my fingers crossed.

Thanks everyone!
It also made my year when I found out.
At this point I am about 99% sure I will go to CSU. I was accepted at MSU, but since I am a WICHE applicant, it makes no sense to go out of state unless it is the only option. How about you? I noticed a few posts back that you also got into CSU, is that your first choice?
I haven't heard about the info day yet; perhaps it will come with the official letter (I found out through a phone call today).
By the way, congratulations to you as well!!

Davis is my top choice, although I have mixed feelings about it. :-) CSU is a very, very close second. In some ways actually I hope I don't get into Davis, because then my choice would be easy! I've been living in Davis for the past 5-1/2 years now, so if I do end up going here, it'd be 10 at least before I can finally move away. For me, that's a reallllly long time to be in Davis; I'm pretty sick of the town already. But it's also about $11K cheaper a year for me to go here than it would be to go to CSU, so it wouldn't be the smartest move financially to pack up and move. I guess I'll just wait and see what happens with Davis.
Their info. day is on April 7th--there's a little blurb about it in the letter you'll get. Not sure if I'm going yet, but I'd like to.
PAThbrd 01-20-2006, 11:36 AM I received an Illinois interview invite today. February 27th, like everyone else :)
HopefulUGACVM 01-20-2006, 02:14 PM Got my rejection from Auburn yesterday, no big surprise since they only take 10 out of staters.
Got mine too. I actually didn't even know, I got it a couple days ago. I called my parents to find out after reading your post and my mom actually received it AND opened/read the letter but didn't bother to call me to let me know. When I asked (just wanted a yes or a no) she tried to recall the whole letter and recite it to me.

Mmmm, sounds just like my mom! Sometimes I wish I never told her I was even appling! Don't they realize you don't need to suffer though the whole letter, one glance, and in the trash! Good enough for me! Stay positive for another school!
AbbeyRoad 01-20-2006, 07:00 PM Okay so I just got home from my interview at Penn, and we were stuck in traffic for an hour so I got home later than I should have. I saw on my caller ID that they tried calling, but I don't have an answering machine so I don't know if this is a good or bad sign. For all you future Penn interviewees, I will tell you not to worry! The faculty were INCREDIBLY nice and helpful. The interview was relaxed and I did not feel pressured at all.

Keep your chin up...you can't have pleasure (a future acceptance, maybe?) without pain.
I'm pulling for ya... :luck:

Thanks :) Its my first shot applying, but I'm not counting on getting in the first time around. I'm not real upset/surprised about Auburn since Im an out of stater and I have average stats. I will of course be disappointed if I don't get into UGA, but theres always next year :)
AbbeyRoad 01-21-2006, 03:51 PM I just got a phone call from my interviewer at Penn -- I was accepted into the Class of 2010! :) I wanted to just accept the offer right then, but I think I will check out Mississippi's campus first. But I really like Penn so it will be a close call! Good Luck to everyone else who applied there -- I hope I will see you in my class!!

PAThbrd 01-23-2006, 12:24 PM Hey all,
Since this thread is getting quite large, I would recommend using the threads popping up for each individual school and the Official Acceptance Thread.
I'm not going to lock this thread but I would highly recommend, for everyone's sanity, to use individual school threads. I am quite proud that we have accumulated the largest SDN vet thread ever :)
