nghs2002 11-29-2005, 07:21 PM Hi,
I was wondering if anyone out there has heard anything from the UCSF school of Pharmacy yet? I'm getting a little jittery :scared: because people are telling me how hard it is to get into this school. The minimum GPA is a 2.8. But anyways, does anyone out there know if UCSF would even let us know whether they received our applications full and complete? I heard that we don't hear from this school until mid December for interviews but I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything from them yet. I read on a couple of the threads that some people are already receiving interviews for pharmacy school. Well if you guys hear anything, let me know. Thanks.

you should've gotten an email saying your application was recieved and complete and they were going to review it. i recieved an email a couple weeks after i sent my stuff in back in early october.
nghs2002 11-29-2005, 07:29 PM I sent my application right ON the deadline date..November 1st. How soon ago did you get an email saying that they received everything?
janbran 11-29-2005, 09:03 PM I sent my application right ON the deadline date..November 1st. How soon ago did you get an email saying that they received everything?
If UCSF received both applications, you should get an email soon. I also sent mine on 11/1 and I just got an email last week, saying that they received everything.

im not too sure with the exact date i got everything in on, but it was around mid-october and i received a confirmation email on 10/27
snailman 11-30-2005, 06:19 AM UCSF received my supplemental application on November 4 (sent November 1), and I got a confirmation e-mail on the evening of November 16.
IamShane 12-01-2005, 09:09 PM Hey this girl told me that she got a interview invite already? Just wondering if any of you applying to UCSF received an interview!!!

You'll probably hear from the staff soon. By the way, if you get into UCSF, don't live at mission bay housing.

It seems to me that the majority of people here have received the complete email if they sent their app on Nov 1st or later. Maybe yours were all on the top of the stack. How did that girl receive an interview invite already? Isn't it too early to hear from them? The website even said they would start sending out invites mid-December through January and it's only Dec 1st!
IamShane 12-01-2005, 11:27 PM Yea, I thought they send out invites mid to late december. Guess she got lucky?

aww boo...another reason for me to start stalking the mailbox again. my roommates make fun of me cuz at about 2 EVERYDAY i run out to check mail. i dont think theyve gotten the mail in the past couple weeks cuz i always beat them there
nghs2002 12-02-2005, 12:12 PM yeah...I don't think you are suppose to hear anything from them as far as interview invites go until dec. 16th. but yah...I tried calling them and they said that the school is still processing applications. is there anyone here that did apply and still haven't heard from them or am I the only one outcasted??? :(

NO i still didn't receive a confirmation letter. I postmarked it Nov 1. So don't be too worried. =)

I didn't get one and I sent mine in October!
nghs2002 12-05-2005, 06:33 PM I finally got a confirmation email from them!! now we'll have to see where fate will take me....at least they received everything as oppose to them rejecting by default (ie missing forms, lateness)...hope everyone else who hasn't heard from UCSF hear from them soon.
blizz 12-07-2005, 09:04 PM Well, I finally called UCSF to see what was up with my application and guess what? The mailroom people LOST MY APPLICATION. They cancelled my app! :( I had delivery confirmation and everything, I even told them the person who signed for it. So hopefully they hunt that person down. The student affairs person (Ena) told me that she had to ask the admin coordinator if I would be a 'special case' in which I could possibly re-send my application. I can't believe this.... :scared: :scared: :scared:
For those interested, the last day they are reviewing/processing applications is December 15th from what she told me.
fidelio 12-07-2005, 09:04 PM I got a confirmation recieving my supplemental application maybe a few days after Nov 1 and I sent it out mid October.

Awww...that really sucks...I can't believe a school with such a lofty reputation would hire such incompetent people. If I could think of a way for you to sue them I would tell you, but I'm outta ideas... I hope you get in somewhere though

I really think this girl is lying, or maybe its another school...I've pretty much interviewed everywhere that has had an interview in cali...and I think UCSF said somewhere in their website and pharmcas that they'll send interview letters about 3 weeks before the interview dates, and those dates are starting in mid January. I also read the dates are randomly drawn for each student.

Hey marrymenatalie, I think you're right. This girl is probably lying...or...mistaken with another school.
Anyway, you mentioned that you've interviewed at all CA schools. Did you apply really early (If you don't mind me asking)? Have you been accepted to any school? Good luck.

Yeah, I turned in all my supplemental applications before September and PharmCAS sent in my application mid-Sept. I've already been accepted to WesternU, but I'm waiting on decisions from a few other schools too. So, yeah for other people applying next year, my best advice is to apply really early for schools doing rolling admissions, and good luck everyone.
nghs2002 12-08-2005, 12:02 PM Oh man! I can't believe that happened! Hopefully you'll be able to resend in your application. It's not your fault that UCSF didn't receive it. And plus, the supplemental application was sooo long so I'm sure you don't want to have worked hard on all your essays for nothing.

I think that is totally unfair and could have been worse if it was rolling admissions. But regardless of whether the schools follow rolling or not, your application didn't get reviewed yet. I hope they send out more interview invites. They should definately put you as an exception!
blizz 12-08-2005, 08:47 PM It turns out that the actual pharmacy school lost my application, not the mail room! I can't believe that happened! Well they gave me an exception and said I can send it in by tomorrow. Thank goodness for making a 2nd copy. I just hope my admissions status won't be lowered or anything because it's pretty late in the game :D

Hey blizz, how were you able to get in contact with them? UCSF lost one of my rec letters and might cancel my app because of that. =( I've sent them an email, but I still haven't heard back. And I've tried calling numerous times and it's always that automated service! argh! Thanks in advance. ;)

Did UCSF give you an cancellation letter, or did you get a complete application email? If you received the complete email then you are fine. If they canceled your application, you would have received a letter in the mail already.
I emailed them at their email address listed on their website, the one that begins with osaca... they respond very quickly, turnaround time is in a day. If you emailed them on the weekend, wait for business hours for them to respond. If all else fails, you can contact any of the staff's email directly (listed on their webpage).
I know how you feel, cheesygal! If you want to call them and the automated response comes on, press "1" then "6" and it'll transfer you to someone. Hope that helps, and good luck. :D
nghs2002 12-19-2005, 06:50 PM so you really do have to submit your Fall 2005 grades before UCSF can continue evaluating your applications? had anyone received an interview from UCSF WITHOUT sending them their fall grades of their senior year?

I'm pretty sure that if their website says they'll be sending out interview letters late-Dec till January --then without a doubt, for some, it's very possible that they may be invited for an interview without the adcom's immediate need to see their Fall 2005 grades for further evaluation, at that point. As a matter of fact, I think it takes awhile for Fall grades to come out and also for PharmCAS to recieve sent transcripts and for PharmCAS to re-calculate your new G.P.A. Therefore, those that get the invitation early on must be, in some way, really stellar students who have already shown a consistent, successful completion of classes.
But don't worry, if UCSF has invited you for an interview, they'll still do a transcript follow-up until your last semester/quarter has ended. Good luck to you!

I was out of the country during the holidays when I applied, and no one was checking my (postal=snail) mail, which was a big mistake... I do not know how they are sending out interview invitations this year (or how they did it in 2004), but what happened 2 years ago is that they send you a letter (in a regular #10 envelope) with a URL that you have to go to to CONFIRM your interview time/date. I remember this b/c i BARELY made the deadline, the deadline to confirm my interview was on Monday and I had gotten all my mail after i got back on Sunday.
Tom, you know what they did in winter 2004- was it the same process?
As for changing the time/date etc for your interview, try not to have to do it. They are juggling 250+ interviews (usually) and it's best to just go with the flow and 'do as they request.' Once you are accepted, you can voice your opinions and make some noise.
In other words, just because their offices say they are closed between that time, don't ignore your mailboxes! the Osaca is a hard working group of people (The person who made that 'incompetent' remark a few threads ago is completely out of line) and you will hear news in the next 3 to 4 weeks for sure!
Good luck, everyone!

well at this point, i'm just gonna leave it up to fate. if it's meant to be, then it's meant to be. besides..they look at about 1200 applicants and have 250 invites for interviews.. that's insane competition!! and plus, if i don't get a letter of invitation...i'll just gladly know that i won't have to take some time off of school, book an expensive plane ticket, find a hotel, find out the area of UCSF-- 'cause I'm not from San Fran and so on....so yah, i would be avoiding stress level if i don't get an interview...we'll see.
and by the way, i knew that UCSF would be mailing in their letters of decision today (12/21) because I called the admissions office the day before and they lady confirmed to me everything. and plus, i'm glad i called because then i was able to get my mailing address change temporarily since i am home for the holidays.
so it's either gonna be a Merry Christmas or as Scrooge would say.."hum bug"..ha!

I wonder if they send their batch of interview letters out only once...anyhow, ~1200 applicants and only 250 invites? Wow, okay, it's up to fate! :(

yup, they give you a url and then you put in your name to accept the interview date.
and for those who freak out about the big envelope/small envelope thing, ucsf sends out all their responses, including acceptances after interviews, in regular letter envelopes. good luck everyone.

nghs2002 12-24-2005, 12:48 AM i got a letter on 12/19 for ucsf :)
weirdness!! Well I talked to the admissions lady of UCSF Pharmacy on the phone and she told me that they would mail out invites and denial letters on December 21st. Maybe she meant it was the last batch of letters that they were finished evaluating..hmm..hey jky007, since you already got a reply from them, did that include your fall 2005 grades? the reason I'm asking is because when I called the lady on the phone that day (12/20), I was still in the middle of finals and so I didn't want UCSF to deny my applications just because I didn't submit my grades on time.
blizz 12-24-2005, 12:56 AM Hmm... I don't get it, so if jky007 got an invite on the 19th and UCSF mailed out rejections/denials on the 21st...
Would that mean those who didn't get an invite already should be getting a rejection/denial letter soon???

Hmmm. If they sent out the invites and rejections already, snail mail must be taking a long time. I haven't received anything from UCSF (but I seriously doubt that I'll be offered an invitation anyways) and I live in the city. Well, maybe my denial will come on Christmas eve. :D I won't let it ruin my holiday.
Congrats to everyone who receive an invite!

what I meant to say on my previous post is that the lady told me that they would send out acceptance AND rejected letters for interviews on the 21st. I didn't mean to say that they would ONLY mail out the denial letters...sorry, I guess all this waiting has just made me jump into conclusions that I probably didn't get an invite. But, I find it very weird too that ONLY 1 person has heard from UCSF. And by the way, did that person even get an invite for an interview..he/she didn't specify on their thread. According to the lady, invitations would be via MAIL ONLY..so don't expect an email or anything thinking that you might also hear from the school electronically.
TheChemist 12-24-2005, 08:08 AM Both my wife and I applied to UCSF and yesterday she received an invite and I received nothing. The mail must be very unpredictable right now.

hey nghs2002, is it true that they also send out rejection letters this early? since they're not rolling admissions, shouldn't this mean they try to notify everyone at once with admission or rejection letters. I thought they would notify everyone of their status not until after march--like, sometime around the first of April? Or....it could be that flat-out rejection letters come out sooner, and only those who are accepted or denied after interviews, or put at alternates after the interviews, are notified by April 1st?
this is different from schools that do rolling admissions, where they admit students as the class gets filled up and are quicker at looking at your applications and giving you the notice of acceptance or rejection within weeks of the interview.

Swanchick84 12-24-2005, 11:44 AM I think that they do send out rejections this early because a friend of mine applied last year with a 3.6 GPA plus lots of research experience and he was rejected around this time of year.
UCSF probably doesn't have to interview that many ppl- 250 out of 1200? Since the school is #1 and the tuition is relatively cheap- I think they can easily get a class of 122 out of those 250 that are interviewed.
However, I'm not 100% sure- just assuming off of my friend who applied last year.
jky007 12-24-2005, 12:36 PM thanks for the congrats everyone.. didn't mean to freak some ppl out, but both me and a friend of mine in berkeley got invitations for interviews 12/19.. we live pretty close to sf, so maybe that's why?
the interview is for 1/19, and no, they did not see my fall 2005 grades at the time... hope that answers peoples' questions!
happy holidays!

nghs2002 12-25-2005, 12:07 AM Well either way, invites or not..best of luck to everyone!! At least for those of us that applied, we stuck it out and filled out their insane long applications with 10 essays, 3 letters of reccomendations, wrote their personal statement AND the personal statement required in PharmCAS. I think their application was the longest that I've ever seen. At least we gave it a shot just to see what our chances are. I know so many people at my school who are applying to everywhere for Pharmacy school BUT ucsf. their responce was all the same..that they are too scared. well i hope everyone have a lovely holiday...I won't let the wait for their dang letter drive me too crazy....if it's meant to be, then it's meant to be. Congrats to those who got invites from the school. I'm sure your christmas is now more enjoyable than ever. :)

Ok, now I'm getting a little nervous..I have not heard from this school at all? I just wanted to check up and see if anyone else has heard from UCSF. Maybe this is their way of rejecting me.. :( oh well, either that or the mail is REALLY annoyingly SLOW.

I feel ya nghs2002. I havent received anything either. I talked to a 4th year UCSF student a while ago and said that she received her invite the day after christmas.
Hopefully, those of us who applied to UCSF will know our status SOON. I hate having no closure!
manapharm 12-27-2005, 03:58 PM nghs2002,
You're not the only one. I have not heard anything from UCSF nor UCSD :scared: . Wish us luck!
Bluhappy102 12-27-2005, 11:24 PM give it a few more days and if you still dont hear anything call OSACA...its very possible that it got lost in the mail (my acceptance last year did!)

I don't go to UCSF, but here is a helpful interview thread (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=94738) taken from a link in this UCSF thread from last year (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=161467). :)
TheChemist 12-28-2005, 09:29 AM I still havn't recieved anything either. Has anyone recieved a rejection?
CalGrl05 12-28-2005, 01:24 PM i wonder if there are any host students from ucsf...

Hey don't let that get you down. At least you got an invite to UCSD, that school is competitive as well. Just let it be your time to shine! I haven't heard anything from UCSF thus far, I'm expecting to hear from them tomorrow since some Cali people got their letters today 12/28...
xturquoise 12-29-2005, 01:06 AM My letters are being sent to my school address and I'm home so I cannot get them until school starts! The wait is killing me! Since UCSF makes you confirm interviews via their website, is there any way for me to find out by if I have an interview through that process or is there a special webpage for every student?
mellyrara 12-30-2005, 07:14 PM Hi,
I was wondering if anyone out there has heard anything from the UCSF school of Pharmacy yet? I'm getting a little jittery :scared: because people are telling me how hard it is to get into this school. The minimum GPA is a 2.8. But anyways, does anyone out there know if UCSF would even let us know whether they received our applications full and complete? I heard that we don't hear from this school until mid December for interviews but I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything from them yet. I read on a couple of the threads that some people are already receiving interviews for pharmacy school. Well if you guys hear anything, let me know. Thanks.
Has anyone else heard from UCSF? Do you think that since I haven't received an invite by now that I will be receiving a letter of rejection? (I got an interview at UCSD, but was kind of hoping for purely for selfish reasons that I would get one for UCSF as well...(but you all know how that is because I think we are all serious students who want to succeed). Thank you for any comments.
nghs2002 12-30-2005, 11:01 PM Ok, now the wait is really getting me frustrated. By a show of hands..who is NOT from California because it seems to me that those who have already gotten a notice from UCSF--invites or not--are people that are from CA. What about those who are out of state?? At this point, I have a sinking feeling that I didn't get an invite and maybe I should just leave it as that. Like everyone else, I too am also need of closure. I rather know now that I got rejected so I can move on with my life than not know what is going on at all. Well tomorrow is Saturday so hopefully, I'll get something in the mail...good or bad. kinda scared now... :scared:

Just know that you are not alone nghs2002! I am in San Diego and I haven't received anything from UCSF. When did you submit your Pharmcas and supplement? I did on October 29th, but I doubt that makes any difference. Every night this week after getting out of work I anticipated coming home to see if there was anything...haha how I fell, haha

Thanks for responding mellyrara. I'm actually glad to hear that you are from SD because I actually go to school in San Diego but I'm now home for the holidays. I submitted my Pharmcas and supplement ON Nov. 1st in SD. Hmm...I guess maybe it's the northern CA peeps that are the ones that hear from them sooner than others...we'll have to see how tomorrow goes.

You're not alone, nghs2002. I'm an out-of-stater and I haven't heard anything from UCSF. To tell you the truth, UCSF mail for some reason takes 2-3 weeks to get to my house. One letter I got was dated Nov 21st, and I got it around Dec 12th! My friends who live in Alameda (this is pretty much Oakland area) haven't heard anything either. Maybe they're waiting for Fall grades to get in for some people? I'm not giving my hopes up, but at the same time I am preparing myself for the rejection letter :(
young skywalker 12-31-2005, 01:19 PM Good luck to all of you. Hope to see you soon!
trublue06 01-01-2006, 03:58 PM i got my interview for ucsf a couple days ago but it was dated almost a week and a half earlier. heads up, you have 14 days to respond online. im in the feb 10th group (the last interview session). i think thats the LA/socal session. good luck everyone.
Maeby 01-01-2006, 11:26 PM 14 days? from the date it was sent? what if you haven't received it by then?

I'm giving it one more week--> 1st week of January and If I don't get anything in the mail this week..I'm gonna assume that UCSF has already chosen who they want to interview... :( oh well..I guess everything happens for a reason, right?

Well, I just emailed UCSF yesterday Jan 2, 2005 and they told me that they had NOT yet delivered my letter on whether I have been accepted or rejected for an interview so I guess they're still sending out letters. So don't give up hope people!
Swanchick84 01-03-2006, 03:44 PM It says on their website calendar that everyone will know final decisions by late january. It's all a matter of waiting...grrrrr..
shirlee24 01-03-2006, 06:09 PM i also got to speak to someone when i called osaca yesterday. they're mailing out letters in batches and she said that another batch was going out today.
good luck everyone
blizz 01-03-2006, 08:11 PM It doesn't make sense... doesn't everyone's interview invite have the same deadline to confirm their interview date/time? And if they are sending out another batch today, it wouldn't really give everyone much time to confirm. Then would that mean the batch they sent out today are most likely rejections? I wish you could just give them your name and see if you got an invite or not, simple as that. Anyone else tired of waiting?!
tomrocks 01-03-2006, 10:18 PM no i think everyone has different days they have to confirm by.

guess i'm not the only person that is tired of waiting by now. i'm telling ya, by now, it's all up to fate.
fidelio 01-04-2006, 11:27 AM Hmmm well, I sort of blame myself for turning my application in so late. I turned my in on Oct 10, and my supplemental on Oct. 21.
So it's kind of expected that I would get my letter last. I hope things are ok.
mellyrara 01-04-2006, 12:02 PM i got a letter on 12/19 for ucsf :)
When did you turn in your Pharmcas and supplement? Thank you :)
snailman 01-04-2006, 01:41 PM I submitted my PharmCAS October 17 (printout mailed to UCSF on November 2), and I mailed my Supplement on November 1 (received by UCSF November 4). I got my invite on December 27, and it was dated December 22. So there doesn't seem to be a correlation between when you applied and when you submitted your app.

My Pharmcas was submitted on October 26th and mailed to UCSF on November 19th and my supplement was mailed October 29th and received by UCSF on November 1st. So perhaps there is no correlation. The only thing I can see different is when the Pharmcas was actually mailed. Oh well, trying to hold onto something. I just hope my interview at UCSD goes great, YIKES!

i e-submitted pharmcas pretty late.. i think it was oct. 30, and i sent in ucsf pretty late too- i think it was postmarked oct. 29 or 30.

Well I called UCSF yesterday and they told me that they mailed a letter for me on Jan. 2nd so I should be expecting to receive something in the mail soon by the end of this week or the beginning of next week. So yah, it's true, they are still mailing the letters batch by batch.
And uhm..note to fidelio, you didn't turn in your application THAT late. trust me. I turned in my apps the DAY OF the deadline so i wonder how did that look when the admissions committee evaluated my apps.
btw, the post office wasn't open the day after new year's, were they? 'cause if ucsf sent my letter via first class, i should be expecting something TODAY or at the latest...TOMORROW...sheesh..it's off to the mailboxes again for me...

No they weren't open. My mom's a postal clerk so I know. Well, I suppose it's not that late, but it's sure a good excuse to calm my nerves about why my letter isn't here yet.
fidelio 01-05-2006, 12:35 PM thanks for the congrats everyone.. didn't mean to freak some ppl out, but both me and a friend of mine in berkeley got invitations for interviews 12/19.. we live pretty close to sf, so maybe that's why?
the interview is for 1/19, and no, they did not see my fall 2005 grades at the time... hope that answers peoples' questions!
happy holidays!
I forgot to ask before, but do you guys have stellar GPAs to not have to turn in fall 2005 grades?

nghs2002,
what state are you from? i'm trying to determine how long i would get a letter if they sent mine out jan 2nd as well. were they really nice when you asked the status of your app? also, do you know when they're going to send out the last batch?
Apteka 01-05-2006, 09:55 PM Hmmm well, I sort of blame myself for turning my application in so late. I turned my in on Oct 10, and my supplemental on Oct. 21.

from what i understand they pull all applications randomly from a big stack, so don't worry about when you turned yours in. it's pretty much a non issue about when you submitted it (provided you met the deadline.)
gooood luck! :luck: :luck:
Apteka 01-05-2006, 09:57 PM I forgot to ask before, but do you guys have stellar GPAs to not have to turn in fall 2005 grades?
everyone has to turn in all grades from everything, up to and including anything you take in summer of 06. they just want to know what you're up to, and even if you drop the course they'd like to know that, too. (i think it's the supplemental application D or F, i can't remember)

That's not what I meant. I meant did people have to turn in fall grades in order to get an interview for UCSF? And if they didn't, did they have really stellar grades to be able to recieve an interview without turning in fall grades?
shirlee24 01-06-2006, 03:15 PM no...they don't need your fall grades to invite you to an interview. they don't really even look at them unless you fail the classes or have your gpa drop below their minimum 2.80.
when i spoke to ucsf, they said to call if you still haven't heard anything at the end of next week. they're sending out the majority of the letters and by now, most of them from what i understand should be out.
good luck everyone.

guess what? it's friday and in the mailbox..NOTHING!! Holy crap!! The wait is ridiculous now..maybe I'm just being paranoid and freaking out but to those who are still waiting...you know the feeling, right? and to blizz, i'm from the rocky mountain state so no excuses to CA 'cause I'm not THAT far away. and yes, the lady on the phone was very nice to me when i spoke to her. just make sure you don't sound like ur going crazy waiting for the mail. another reason i decided to call was that i was afraid that my letter might have been lost in the mail..yikes!!
care324 01-06-2006, 05:35 PM For those of you still waiting for a letter...CALL THEM!!! I called them today and found out that my letter was sent on December 19th, but I never received a letter. I guess it got lost in the mail. My deadline to reply to the invitation was January 2nd, and my application was in the process of being cancelled!!! If I hadn't called today...it would have been a bigger mess! I spoke to a counselor from the School of Pharmacy and she immediately faxed the invitation to me. Dude...I was going insane looking for the nearest Kinko's. So my advice is...CALL THEM!!!
Oh yeah...guess what? Same thing happened with UCSD. I just received an email yesterday stating that a letter was sent to me on the 22nd, and I guess the letter was lost again. So if you're waiting on UCSD...CALL THEM as well! Good luck to all!!
starl1gh7 01-06-2006, 09:16 PM I actually got an email today telling me they were going to cancel my application because I did not confirm my interview. I was so shocked. It was a very stressful day, but it all worked out because the admission coordinator faxed my letter to me.
So, I agree with care324, CALL THEM and ASK because mine was sent on Dec 13th and I live in San Francisco.

Wow, you guys are lucky you checked in time. So I guess UCSF does email you if you don't confirm your interview. (At least UCSD checks if you received one!) I am going to call Monday morning to see what's up with my rejection/invite and why it's taking so long to receive it. nghs2002, I live in NV and that's not that far from CA either.. but like I've said before, UCSF mail usually takes 21 days to get to my house (from previous letters sent to me). Shocking, eh?
fidelio 01-08-2006, 01:27 PM I recieved an interview letter from UCSF today! Omg, waiting for this letter was the most scariest thing in my life! I was convinced I was going to recieve a rejection letter because it's so late in the month. So good luck to everyone! They're still sending interviews out!
My interview is on Feb 9. It says on the letter that they sent it on January 3, 2006. I live in South California, an hour away from San Diego if that helps anyone.

I don't mean acceptance letter. I meant acceptance for interview. Haha. Yea. Sorry about that. I guess I was just overly excited about getting an interview. I need to stop and pay attention to my sentences.
Anyway, I'm only halfway there. I'm so worried.
Plus I don't think they send out acceptance letters until April or May.

I got mine last Thursday and it was dated for last Thursday's date, 1/5/06. You should be getting yours soon! Where are you located? I am in the San Diego area so it is possible that if our letters went out the same time and you are out of state then you should be getting it today or tomorrow. I wish you the best!! And I really want you to get an interview!! You made me feel I wasn't alone out there waiting for a letter!

nghs2002 01-09-2006, 11:24 PM Oh my gosh!! I'm freaking out. I am currently out of town so today, I figured that I would try my luck and call UCSF to see if they would fax my letter to my hotel room. I just wanted to get closure and see if I got the interview or not. ANYWAYS, remember that I told you guys that I talked to a lady on the phone and she told me that my letter was mailed out on Jan. 2nd. Well it turns out that from a lady that I talked to on the phone today, she said that my application is UNREVIEWED. I was like, "what the heck??" I thought it should have been reviewed by now. I also thought that UCSF was done reviewing applications!! Why is my application not even touched yet? So I told the lady on the phone that I spoke to an admissions person at UCSF the other week and she said that my letter was mailed out Jan. 2nd and on the phone, she was like "well, your status on our computer screen says that it's still UNREVIEWED." What the freak is going on now??? Being UNREVIEWED is worse than being rejected..oh my gosh, now I really want to get this over with!! shheessh! :scared: :( ...they are my 3 current emotions.

Man, I can't believe that!! I'm lead to believe that's what is happening to me too. I called on Monday morning and the lady who I spoke to said that they would be send out a letter that day. But since you got conflicting responses, who knows. I think you should contact Stacy Smit or James Betbeze instead of calling the main number, maybe they might give you clarification. I might call again at the end of the week if I still don't get anything.
fidelio 01-11-2006, 01:17 PM shheessh! :scared: :( ...they are my 3 current emotions.
That is depressing. Did you ask the lady what would happen now? Yea, I agree with Blizz. Talk to someone else and give them a handful.

Ok, so here is another story. I called UCSF today and a different lady picked up (in fact, I think it was the same lady that told me that my letter was mailed Jan. 2nd). I decided to play "dumb" and ask the lady if a letter was mailed to my home address. She said YES and that it was mailed on Jan. 2nd. And then I told her that I talked to someone different on the phone Monday and she told me that my application was UNREVIEWED and the lady on the phone told me "uhm..I dunno where you got that information but it says on the screen that your letter was mailed on Jan. 2nd. That information seems pretty ambiguous to me." Oh my gosh, could UCSF reject me already so I can move on w/ my life? Luckily, I got the lady's name this time (the one who told me that my letter was mailed Jan. 2nd). So, we'll see how it goes. I don't even knonw what kind of emotion I have anymore.

I have some good news for those who are waiting for something. I emailed Stacy Smit and I asked her about interview letters and she said they still are mailing them out. The last batch will be sent out this Friday. So we will know for sure that we should be hearing something within the next 1-2 weeks.
thaliagoo 01-12-2006, 07:51 AM I got emails this week from UCSD & UCSF this week kicking me in the ass. They mailed my interview invitation in late December and are wondering why I haven't accepted and should they cancel my app? I was afraid this was gonna happen because I left school (in PA) Dec 19th and had a feeling they would mail it to my school address instead of my home address. I wrote the wrong date on my PharmCAS application but I edited it (kinda late) and PharmCAS was suppose to mail the changes to them. Of course, I emailed them back saying that I am very interested. Both told me I had til the 13th of Jan to accept and I am so glad I checked my email!
My UCSD interview is scheduled for the 21st of Jan so I get to go back to school late (YAY). They ended up emailing the letter to me as email attachments (they're so nice). I'm waiting for UCSF to email the date as well. I am very happy I made it thus far-- the fact that both schools invited me is very assuring but I dont wanna get my hopes up. Both of these schools are ideal to me- on a scale of 1-10 UCSF is 10 and UCSD is 9.9. Best of luck to all.

Well, if it's mailed on Jan 2, and and it's already the 12th of Jan, aren't they suppose to fax your letter if you haven't recieve it?
DC1120 01-12-2006, 02:00 PM Does anyone know if UCSF interview dates are random or if the people who got the last round of interivews during mid Feburary pretty much don't have chance compared to those who gets their interviews in mid January? Is it set up like those who have a higher chance of getting in (EX: A very high GPA) get an earlier interview date and those who are on the bottom of the list gets the later interview date?
Also, how much is the interview worth?

i'm not positive, but i tihnk interview dates has something to do with your location. they give more time for people who are out of state, etc. or maybe they do it by when they look at your app. i really don't think it matters if your interview is later or earlier.
the interview counts for a lot. i think its probably about half of what they look at. i tihnk once you go into your interview, everyone is almost on a even playing field and you make it or break it. good luck.

I don't think so. I think it's completely random. I'm in the last round of interviews but I live in Ca an hour away from San Diego. My GPA is the average GPA, 3.6. So if anything, I should have been somewhere in the middle, but I'm not. But yea, does anyone know how much the interview is worth?
young skywalker 01-14-2006, 12:17 AM Interview dates have been in the past based on location.
One day for out of stater's one for S. Cal, one for N. Cal, one for S.D. central valley, etc.
I'm not exactly sure as to how much the interview is "worth". But the impression I have always got was that once you have reached the interview stage, all things are equal among applicants. UCSF interviews I believe 250 for 122 spots, and they also have a waiting list, that for the last 2 years has gone pretty deep into the list. So basically you have a one in two chance of getting in once you have gotten an interview. So... go and kick ass!! Can't wait to meet you all.
(my advice are opinions of my own and not the opinions of the OSACA staff or the actually UCSF school of pharmacy)
CalGrl05 01-14-2006, 01:53 AM hi guys,
i was just wondering if anyone knew how much we should know about current events ? I guess I dont really know how to "study" for the interview besides looking over my application. Any advice on how to prepare for it would be much appreciated. THanks!
blizz 01-14-2006, 09:15 PM nghs2002, did you hear anything yet? i didn't get anything in the mail today, i'm starting to forget that i'm actually waiting for something.
DC1120 01-15-2006, 01:44 PM For those who have experiences with interviewing at UCSF, how much current issues do we need to know about? Are they going to ask us a specific topic that we might not know about or just something broad and ask us if we know any current issues that we like to share? Also, how difficult is the writing portion?
Also, how long do people usually practice for their interviews? I read from another thread that there was this person that practiced for two months!
Thanks

Ya know, I don't recall a specific question about current events. How one discusses the overall profession or speaks to their aspirations can lead to these type of discussions. I wouldn't expect a question, but you may want to use current events to maybe explain what you think of pharmacy, why you want to be a pharmacist, so insert some of this knowledge through your experience, As far as I know, each faculty member could have their own style. This coems into play when the student interviewing has gotten past all the give away questions and you start to converse. The questions I was asked tended to be specific to my application. My sister has a disability, a rare chromosomal disorder, and my faculty member actually looked it up so he knew something about it. I was quite taken aback after interviews at both U of Arizona and UCSD were not as in depth. Basically, i would know why you want to be a pharmacist, ask yourself what you bring to the profession, the school, how have you prepared, why are you certain of this decision, what has been the most difficult thing to happen to you and how did you overcome it, what pathway you may want to take here at UCSF, and what area of pharmacy do you think you would like to be in. I wrote up all the answers to these questions and read over them. I printed out all sorts of info on the university, knew their accomplishments, about the program, where I saw myself fitting in, and what makes me special compared to all the other qualified applicants. This seemed to have worked well.
The essay was a bit more abstract than what I expected. It had three options, you were given only a large box (about a page) in which you are allowed to write (so it's not very long), and about an hour for the essay. It had some pharmacy issue but it wasn't a current event. It had something to do with technology in science or something. It had another which had something to do with linking a childhood story or mythological story to your life, and the last, was a quote and asked to speak about what you thought it meant. It was different from UCSD (which historically is pretty laid back, where would you take a friend visiting to your home) and U of Arizona (which was pretty hardcore).
As far as practice. I had the fortune of practicing at two other interviews before UCSF! So that was some pretty good practice. Two months prep is absolutely insane; but be thinking about what you may want to say. That reminds me of my fellow classmates, they would do something like that! I practiced about a week and a half, had my notes done about 2 weeks before.
Hope that helps.
tomrocks 01-15-2006, 05:16 PM since oneday_9 helped me out so much with my interview, i'll shar my experiences also.
basically, i thought my interview pretty much sucked. they give about 45 minutes per interview and mine lasted only 25. i basically thought they knew i wasn't qualified and decided to cut it short. but i guess i was wrong because i was accepted.
anyhow, here are some tips:
1) think before you speak. do not just give an answer immediately after the question is asked. think about the whole question and what you're going to say and how you're going to say it. i learned my lesson when they asked me the most off the wall question: "describe a time when you used a creative solution after you made a decision as a leader and other people disagreed." ok. so i immediately went into this class i coordinated at college and was talking about how a lot of people disagreed with a lot of my decisions. but i totally forgot the first part of the question and had to ask what the question was again. that was really embarassing. if you don't understand the question, ask them to repeat it before answering it. pause a little, think about the question, and then answer.
2) practice with friends. don't memorize what you're going to say word for word, but memorize important points you want to convey with the important questions. why pharmacy, why ucsf, etc etc. practice with friends and be sure to choose someone who will be critical.
3) know your application. it doesn't look good when they ask you something about your application and you don't know what they're talking about.
4) know about the program, know about current events, and know about your goals. you have to convey why ucsf is the school for you and its better to know what ucsf has that other schools don't. the current events questions never came across in my interview but if you get asked or work current events into an answer, it shows that you're actually interested in pharmacy. and know what you want to do with pharmacy. if you're not sure, then be honest. but it'll help if you had goals.
5) make sure each answer is personal to you. there are some questions that you have to give a generic answer but its not so generic if you put in a personal experience or something you're really passionate about.
6) be prepared to be tested about your passion for pharmacy. i was bombarded left and right about why i didn't choose other professions besides pharmacy. i was a double major in econ and bio and focused a lot of my extracurriculars on public health. i was asked three times: why not medicine, why not economics, and why not public health. and if they ask you questions like this, also put in how you other interests can help you in the field of pharamcy.
7) come prepared with questions to ask the interviewers. it shows that you have interest in the school and want to learn more.
8) DO NOT wear crazy socks to your interview. my stupid self thought there would be a desk between me and the interviewers and decided to wear these wild socks. my shirt and tie combo were both patterened so basically, it was pattern oerload. it was really embarassing sitting in front of a dean with those socks. i actually caught the student interviewer looking at my socks at the beginning of the interview.
good luck everyone. don't stress. hope to see you guys in the fall.
tom

fidelio 02-11-2006, 12:45 PM Hey how was everyone's interview?

blizz 02-11-2006, 01:28 PM Mine was mediocre. Do you know when they'll send out rejection/acceptance letters by any chance?
They told me mid March-April.
Pintobeans 02-14-2006, 01:56 PM I interviewed on Jan 27 and the interviewers were very nice to me. I don't remember being asked any scenario, but mainly talked about my background, my motivations and aspirations as a future pharmacist. The interview was just flowing smoothly and they reacted positively to my answers (always smiling, nodding with their heads and even putting a sad face when I was talking about my hardships :p). Overall, it was a good experience but it's hard to tell if I did well because I assume they are nice to all applicants.
Now... the wait...
swtSDgrl 02-15-2006, 04:44 PM i had my interview on the 4th. it went relatively smooth, but i think my answers sucked A**. I felt like i was too scripted. For those how still haven't attended their interviews, be yourself and DON'T memorize what you're going to say. just know the key points to mention. I talked to this one guy who had an interview last year, and after they rejected him, he called and asked why. They told him he sounded to scripted and nervous. so...DON'T APPEAR to look nervous. They are pretty friendly. I don't remember any scenario questions, most of the questions were taken from my file. What they have posted on their website about only have your background essays...bull....they have you're entire file. So know everything and be prepared to answer any questions pertain to everything you put on there. Also, why pharm...they will definitely ask you this. I've only had 2 interviews so far, and they both ask me... Good luck to everyone...hopefully march will bring luck to us...just remember..50/50 chance of getting in!

DC1120 02-25-2006, 11:40 AM Im still waiting for an acceptance/rejection letter, at this time, should i fill out FAFSA and put down UCSF? I filled FAFSA for USC, but I don't know if I have to fill one out for UCSF, for those who are in the same situation, let me know what you did in terms of your financial aid. Thanks!
jky007 02-25-2006, 12:56 PM yeh i would indicate all the schools that you applied to.. can't hurt! ucsf does require a fafsa too if you want any aid... at least that's what i did

Yeah, I did the same thing. I put down all the schools that I applied to, all of which are possible schools that I may be attending next fall.
