Hey Everybody,

After a long hiatus from the forums, I'm back!

Got a question for y'all:

What would you say if you interviewed at a program, and in late December (i.e. now), they sent you a letter saying that they were pleased you interviewed with them, and that every year they look for qualified individuals and that you fit those criteria, and they hope to be in contact after match day?

Can you read into stuff like this, or is this just standard stuff the schools send out to try and cherry pick?

Your opinions are welcome!

Bucky

You should contact your friends who also interviewed at that same program.

I bet they got the same letter too.

IMO, I wouldn't read too much into it. The program can say whatever it wants to you to make you feel good, it doesn't mean anything unless you get that email from the National Match Sevice saying "Congratulations, you matched at...."

The only way you could read into it is if that letter said "We are ranking you #1." If you ranked them #1 and then come match day you match somewhere else, then you might have a little lawsuit on your hands. :meanie:

I am the only one that applied to this program from my class.

the thing i am thinking is that they won't come out and say that "you're #1" because that is really against the rules, but they say stuff like this, meaning, we're ranking you highly, so hopefully you do the same!

Any other opinions?

Thanks GRIFF!

I got a similar letter from UConn oral surgery when I applied. It turns out they sent the same letter to everyone.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but it's in the program's best interests to send every qualified person that letter. The more people they have rank them high, the more qualified residents they will get. I got one of those from a program I interviewed at a few weeks ago, and I assume most people did. Was it osu pedo?

Thanks for all your input guys... don't worry, it's still not raining on the parade. I stillthink that it's a pretty crappy thing to do if they sent it to everyone, but oh well, I guess I won't know till match day.

It's not osu pedo, if you're asking.

Thanks,

Bucky

Thanks y'all for your replies.

Yah-E: I'm applying for the specialty of General Dentistry!

Really, the main thing I'm trying to figure out is whether this place just sends these letters out, but might not rank you highly. Cause then you're sitting there trying to figure out with the letter and stuff how you didn't get into their program in the end. See what I mean?

Thanks guys,

Bucky

How high is high? Say this program is your #1 choice. You might be ranked #5 on the list at this program that takes 4 people and ranked 20 candidates. #5/20 is a pretty high rank spot, but not high enough if all 4 people ahead of you put that program #1 on thier list and get into that program. Then you end up getting in somewhere else or don't match anywhere.

I bet they sent that letter to everyone.

They do send out "you #1" letter/email to candidates more often than we would like to know/admit. It's kind of a love letter that you don't want to share with the other suitors.

By the way, did anyone watch the new "The Bachelor" on ABC tonight? That's an ER doctor as the Bachelor. When are they going to pick me as the next Bachelor?!
