You forgot one of the best all-time finishing moves-the Honky Tonk Man's Shake, Rattle, and Roll. The Dudley Boyz are definitely a tag team to reckon with. I cringe every time I see a table because of them. :scared: How's the studying coming?

Thanks everyone, I think I somewhat figured out how I should study efficiently. I thnk I should relax a little more and I'll probably remember more stuff that I study.

Where does everyone go to get haircuts around UHS? Any good barbers, I usually like a barber who can just shave off most of my hair within 15 min. Is there a supercuts nearby or anything around 10.00?

Thanks,
Anthony

Hey gang--
Well only one more day before the first big quiz. Man I am not sure if I am even studying the right stuff. I guess I will use this first quiz as a guide. If I do poorly, then obviously I did the wrong stuff.

How are you all studying?? I condensed all Stephen's notes to three pages front and back, and am just concentrating on it. Hopefully it will be good enough.

Nothing else to report.......C-Dawg signing off

Chris,
I don't really shave my head, I just cut it short so it's almost shaved, sort of a 5 on top and 1 on sides blended, according to my barber of 18 years...hmm. Its tough looking for a new barber.

Well the first quiz is over!!!!!!! Honestly I didn't think it was that bad. I was expecting harder questions from Stephens. Not saying they were easy, just expected more detail.

Anyway, i will be struggling to stay awake throughout the rest of the day. All my orbital mm are getting a great workout!!!!

Anthony, on the fifth floor library, there is a CT edited local listing. I think there is a barber shop right inside CT. It is room 822 I believe. But you can check it out for yourself.

To any 2nd year,
I had a question, we just got over our FOM final and I just noticed we have a quiz next Monday. I was wondering, why they do that? Also, I noticed it was an hour long, do you remember approximately how many questions they could give? It seems like all the FOM free time we had disappeared...I wonder how I'll have time to do anything anymore...anyway, I should be out drunk, but I feel worn our from that 4 hour test to do anything else. Good luck to you guys/gals on your Quiz monday.

Wolverine,
Who knows why they put quizzes after one week sometimes. It will happen randomly in different sections, but the quizzes are extremely short obviously because it's only one week's worth of material. It seems like we only had like 40-50 questions for a week's quiz. Don't worry about your free time disappearing; you'll get into the routine before you know it and you'll have time to get everything done! There is plenty of time to study during musculoskeletal-- your afternoons are very busy with dissections, etc. but as long as you keep up with the material you'll do totally fine. I don't know if you already know this, but the actual 3 hour dissection time is not required to be at; you only receive points for being at the one hour review at the end of the week. Last year quite a few people just skipped out on a few dissections and got a tutor to go down to the lab with them --- it makes learning the anatomy a TON more efficient. Hope this helps!
Des:)

drchris33
09-26-2003, 11:22 PM
Now Dr Des what kind of advice is that to give a first year; telling them to skip out on their labs! You are so NAUGHTY!

Yeah listen to Des, she was right on with everything. I personally liked dissecting, so I DIDN'T SKIP! :) :)

Hope your final went well first years! Our quiz will be a doozie!

Don't listen to Des she is a slacker! Eveybody knows that skinning and removing fat off the gluteal region for 3 hours is vital to becoming a competent physician. :) No, seriously musculoskeletal is pretty straightforward. Just learn all the muscles and their innervations and you're good. Not a lot of pathology in the musculoskeletal system, except for some autoimmune stuff and maybe DMD. I think the only pharmacology we did was NSAIDS, maybe we covered corticosteroids I don't remember. My brain is full of decussations and lateral spinothalamic tracts, blah, blah, blah, pllllllllllllllh!! Sometimes I wish I had a prefontal lobotomy so I would care about this stuff. :)

By the way, our flag football team served notice today that we are a force to be reckoned with. We are a defensive juggernaut. 14-0 and we only played a half. Player of the Game: Ms. Desiree!!

Take Bama's advice, Don't listen to the class slacker, doctordes!!
Although, to be perfectly honest with you I think I picked up a scalpel five times total in a year of dissection. I tried to tell some first years that they should enjoy the free time in FOM because your days start getting jammed packed afterwards. I agree with BAMA about the MS section it was pretty straight forward just a lot of anantomy minutia!!!! Watch out for the Riddler!!!

MS was one of the best sections during first year in my opinion. You learn a crap load of information, but you will see it will overlap in later sections and plus helps out a ton in OPP. As for cranial....different story........

That's REAL cute, little boys -- bashing me for telling it like it is. For your info, I was at every dissection last year (not to mention I was frustrated cuz I didn't know what was going on!)!! And Disco, a lot of nerve you have chiming in, considering I was the only girl to show at 9am yesterday....you'll all pay.....
Bama, I insist that you were playa of the game. Count 'em TWO sacks baby! Now if only we could get crackbaby to stop laughing hysterically everytime he runs with the ball....
Well I suppose I should get back to studying...I'm either doing that or just staring at some big words. I can't really tell the difference at this point.

Doctordes,
I guess you have been studying too long.... You forgot that Amanda and Erica were both at the game as well. I know how we can stop crackbaby from laughing ever time he has the ball. We could hire the dirtiest player in the game, Ric Flair, to hit him over the head with a crowbar. And Doctordes, don't sing it, bring it.

I am slowly losing my mind!!! Okay, maybe I was already half way there, and you are thinking 'Surely he can't get any crazier.' I can get crazier and don't call me Shirley. I had a dream last night that Jay Leno tried to kill me. Luckily I was only shot in the right flank and I managed to take Big Chin down with a 9mm I had under my pillow. Did I mention that I was staying at Jason Kidd's house for some reason? He was asleep and didn't even try to help me. True story. No, I have not taken Ketamine lately. Although I did score some fentanyl from Rush Limbaugh.

That is a good stress test. If you dream that you are being shot by a late night talk show host while you are staying at an NBA star's house, you might be too stressed, or perhaps there's neurofibrillary tangles in your putamen (whatever that is). Maybe tonight I will dream that me and Dave Letterman got in a sword fight while I was staying at Britney Spears house. The brain (or maybe more specifically, my brain) is so weird!!

Des, Des where are you??

doctordes
10-16-2003, 12:36 PM
I'm here! I'm here! Chris, no offense but your freaky deeky dreams with Britney Spears and some sleeping bag/pillow fight evening you had with another man is one of those dreams you might want to chalk up under "stuff not to post on the world wide web..." Just kidding! That is hilarious, actually and you know I love Britney. NEURO SUCKS!! And just for the record, I feel dirty everytime I say putamen. He he he!!

Bama,
Losing your mind? I think that's a forgone conclusion. Damn these baseball playoffs!!! I cannot seem to motivate myself with all this baseball going on. I hope that my neuro grade doesn't reflect it, although it felt good to see the Cubs lose. Oh and Bama, it could be worse you could have dreamt that you were being power slammed to hell by the Undertaker moments after Doink spritz you in the eye with acid. Speaking of dirty....after Des' comment about the cerebellum, I can't help but laugh every time I see a picture of one. :D If cerebellum comes up as an answer on the test, old man's ba%#$ better not be an answer choice. She's got me so confused! Even when's she's not here, Des is playing with my mind.

I'll give a shout out to my homie hunny Des-a-ray. I too believe that Dr. Geenans is really David Bowie in disguise.

Being done with neuro is great. I don't feel like I am drowning anymore for the moment, other than re-learning the muscles of the forearm and hand, as well as the rest of musculoskeletal in order to be a decent TA and tutor. Damn that stuff is kinda tricky.

I had a question, I hope everything is going well for everyone. I was curious. Are all exams for MS 1 going to be case-based? All the other exams in FOM and 3 quizzes in musculoskeletal were easy compared to the Musculoskeletal final...but I'm trying to decide if I should modify how I study to adjust for case-based questions which take too long to read. Or will they revert back to the question-answer, sort of like a memorization test where you just spit facts back out to them? Also, do you have any tips for surviving Skin , blood, and lymph it seems impossible with the dseases, drugs, etc. I can't believe we have all this information in 4 days of lecture...it seems more like 2 weeks worth, and all the quizbank there is...
Anyway, thanks,
Anthony

I am sure that my classmates will tar and feather me for this, but SBL was my favorite section last year. I believe one of the keys to SBL is doing quizbank, Yes, there a 1.6 million quizbank questions but after doing them enough you start to actually learn things from just doing them. Plus, on the final you will instantly recognize a ton of questions. Concentrate on Hubbard. He has a lot of lectures and his questions aren't normally that difficult. You just have to learn the pharm, Sorry. The skin stuff is not that hard. Just learn the diseases and how they are treated. Dr. Mathys' questions are pretty straightforward. Try not to get too down in the section, It is tough, but it is pretty important stuff. Good luck!

I have to agree with my esteemed colleague from Alabama. Even though you'll hear SBL sucks and that it's hard, I thought SBL was one of the most enjoyable sections of the first year. My advice: Do quizbank early and often and when in doubt on Hubbard's or Matthys' questions choose all of the above.

Good grief - what is wrong with Bama and ODB?!! YOU LOVED SBL? Oh, right - let me guess, you also wished neuro had lasted a little longer. Suckas.
SBL sucks but it's all about prioritzing. Don't spend tons of time on Hubbard's stuff....be familiar with the lecture but the fact is almost all of his answers are E. Spend your time doing quizbank and knowing the basis of Buxton's stuff. Know the clinical characteristics of the main diseases (impetigo, pemphigus, SLE, etc.) and the cases will be way easy...no need to practice questions preparing for them.
As for my football buddies, I am ONLY KIDDING! You are both MVP's of the two games this weekend in my eyes. Bobby, too I suppose. Our focus now must be to annihilate the Chubby's crew. Yes, there are a couple of preemies on the team that whine at every play - ahem, you know to whom I'm referring...but I truly believe we can take em.

Des,
Why are you all up in my grill about SBL? I guess you liked musculoskeletal with its exciting array of arthritis, gout and sprained ankles. Yeah, Whateva!

As far as football goes, I think I either sprained my wrist really bad or fractured a carpal bone, b/c it hurts like a MOFO. I can barely move it. I probably should get it X-rayed, but I'm not. There is no way I am missing the championship game. I would consider cutting it off before I let that happen. I know, I am a sick individual. As for Chubby's and their neonates, I'm not too worried. Our team has a lot more fire. It was cool to see someone besides me get fired up. It's about time! Don't mess with Uncle Kenny, he'll beat you down!! Now if we just had a girl who could get fired up and bring the pain............ :)

Des, I heard that Chubby's likes to beat up tea cup poodles in their spare time. And they said that you whine too much.

Bama,
I thought it was your jaw that got hurt. And speaking of Musculoskeletal don't forget all the anatomy minutia. I enjoyed learning about arthritis and gout but the muscles of the hand. Give me break!! When a patient of mine dies because I did not know the muscles in the hand is the time I get out the ouja board and talk to Harry Caray about eating the moon if it were made of spare ribs! Uncle Kenny was fired up. Des, I hear Team Chubby's kills tea cup poodles...I guess Chubby's doesn't serve E. coli burgers after all?

Hey Dub,

CONGRATULATIONS on your acceptance!

I and many other UHSers live at CT. It's been a good experience for me, essentially saving gas for the car and having the school right across the street. I'll be leaving in July. I'm thinking of selling a lot of stuff. If you're interested, stay tuned.

The apts are about 500sq ft, perfect if you don't have a ton of big furniture. The 5th floor is always packed with UHS students right before quizzes and tests. It's basically all about convenience.

Some friends don't live at CT and are happy. Mostly those with families or husbands/wives. Any other q's email me. You should start a UHS 2008 thread if there's not one already.

Best to you!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! Dubya, if you like convenience and like having your friends extremely close then look at CT. I absolutely love living there; it's cheap, it's convenient, and saves me gas money. KC traffic bites in the morning, too.
SO....regarding the flag football game as of last weekend. Who's not happy? It's me. It's me. And to subdue my temper for a bit, I shall recite the following humorous lines:
Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Sally O'Malley, I'm proud to say I'm 50 years old. I'm not one of those gals who tries to hide her age unlike some other gals, and I like to KICK! STRETCH!!! AND...KICK!!! I'm 50!
It's not a difficult question...would ya eat the moon if it were made out of ribs? Just say yes and we can move on.

But mark my words: one thing I will NEVA!!! move on from is our heartbreaking loss to Lucifer's team himself (note the red t-shirts: coincidence? I think not). No doubt that some homosexual championship t-shirts will be made which will aggrevate me even more, but we all know who the real champions are...

The Kansas State Wildcats.

Peace out,

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows if Jennifer Garner is seeing anyone right now. Oh, wait I meant Jennifer G. I wouldn't want to reveal her identity. :) Did you see Daredevil? YOUCH!!

Hey, is this SDN or Loveline? "Let's go to the phones. Steven from White Plains is worried that he loves himself so much that he might go blind. Is that true Dr. Drew?"
"No, its not true and stop calling Chris M., we know it's you."

Hey, if you were a hotdog and you were starving would you eat yourself? Come on, it's a simple question. A baby could answer it. I know I would. I would smother myself with brown mustard and relish. I would be delicious!

Des, I don't think you should talk about that team of Lucifers we played last weekend. I'm still a little verclempt (ok, smarty you spell it) about it. Talk amongst yourselves..... I'll give you a topic: The chickpea is neither a chick, nor a pea; discuss...... Ok, I'm back.

Man, I ate so much this week that if I wanted to haul ass, I'd have to make two trips! I guess I'll have to join Des down in the CT fitness center at 3 in the morning to burn off all of my Thanksgiving weight. :) Hope everyone got their fill of tryptophan. I'm sure someone else on this thread, such as an ambassador, aka CHRIS would know better than I would to answer this question. However, a few people that I've talked to in my class got waitlisted and I've heard from them that it was suggested they get an alum to write the school a letter - all of them did, and all were obviously accepted. This is just a few people that I know though so it is my only suggestion. I would think if you were waitlisted this early you wouldn't have that difficult of a time getting in. Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!!

EuroDocMom,
Does your name mean that you are a European doctor and a mom or that you are a doctor for european moms? Or maybe a european doctor for moms, regardless of nationality. Perhaps you are telling your mom that you are a european doctor. Maybe you are not a mom at all but are proclaiming that you are a european doctor in a Jamaican accent. "I'm a European Doc, Mon." It's all very confusing.
Is being a EuroDoc sort of like being at EuroDisney, b/c I heard that placed sucked.

I'm thinking about not taking Kaplan after all. First of all, I'm currently more broke than that little kid from Webster. Secondly, I think I am just going to get the Kaplan books from my cousin and buy the Q-bank. And C, I don't like the once a month weekend format. So, that is my current Kaplan course thought process. I will update everyone again in a few days. :) Well, I'd better go study. This section has me more frustrated than Michael Jackson trying to get into the Chuck E. Cheese.

hey 2006ers,
how easy (or hard) is it to get a 3rd year Preceptorship you want? Specifically, Florida. How much do grades and scores play into the process.

drchris33
12-15-2003, 03:12 PM
Dubbya--
The way our third year works is by a match process. Grades, scores, class rank, etc are not even a factor. Here is how it works:
First off, we did a "straw pull" putting down our top three choices of where we would like to go for rotations. Then a computer program went thru and gave us info of the sites that would be full after first round, based on the straw pull.
Then on Match Day, you have turned in a sheet with your top three choices. A computer will go thru and do two different processes. Everyone is assigned a number. First way is for the computer to go thru and randomly select numbers. If your number comes up, it will look at your first choice. If that is open, you get it. if not, then it goes to your second choice. If that is full, goes to your third. So that cycle goes thru 100 times. Second, the same process takes place except this time when it gets to a number and if your first choice is full, the computer comes back to you later, and then assesses your second choice. And so on. After that goes thru 100 times, a few students assigned to this will evaluate the stats, looking at the class as a whole. Which ever method produces the best stats for the class is what they go with.

This year, 88% matched to their first choice; 94% matched in top three choices. This left about 14 people unmatched. So they had to go thru another match process, based on the sites that were not filled.

It turned out really good this year, and the majority is happy. As far as Florida goes, I believe there are four sites there; maybe three. But I know it is one of the more popular sites, so it tends to fill up fast.

I hope this helps. Sorry if it was vague.

Well back to the books....got finals this week!!!

I am assuming my classmates will be posting more as the week goes on!!

Chris left out one thing about the match process. Only the COOLEST get to go to Florida! So, all you dorks out there who are dreaming of rotating in an awesome locale, such as Ft. Myers, forget it. You should just plan on staying in Kansas City with all the other losers! :) Or maybe Loserville West: Wichita. Okay, so I am trying to avoid studying by inciting my classmates, Get off me!! It is hard being a pathological procrastinator.

Seriously, there are 3 Florida sites: Ft. Myers, St. Petersburg, and Orlando. Orlando only has 2 spots and is a smaller hospital. St. Pete has a couple of residency programs and Ft. Myers is where all the bad asses like me go. Just the luck of the draw. That's why they call it a lottery system. I was kidding about kewlness being a pre-req for Florida. I mean, they did let Des go down there. :) J/k, Des. Love Ya'. Don't hurt me.

I'm am a little confused about how the 4th year clerkship assignment works. The match process is just for you 3rd Year Cores right? Do you get to choose your 4th year clerkships in a similar way?

drchris33
12-15-2003, 05:59 PM
4th year is set up on your own. The third year you have nine or ten months of core rotations and one elective. Then the fourth year you have four core and six electives. you can set up your electives anywhere you want. So basically you are matching just for third years.

I guess I am one of the Losers in Loserville West!!!! Bama be sure to send me a pic of you on the beach in your thong!!

Dear Ft Myers Hospital,
Please do not hold UHS responsible for the students that will be rotating with you this fall. How one whole role of wild/crazy/silly/loud students could all end up going to a relatively small slot available location via a lottery system is statistically unrealistic (oh, that would be a z score of 1000, and a p value of .00000000001.... and they thought I didn't learn anything!!).

Chris,
I didn't mean to imply that everyone rotating in KC or Wichita are losers. OK, that's exactly what I meant, but I mean that in the nicest way possible. :) I don't know about Wichita, but there will be no male thong-action in Ft. Myers. Now females, that's a different story. In my mind Ft. Myers is a magical place where it never snows, the women all look like Jennifer Garner and they all walk around wearing thongs. The nurses at the hospital look like they walked out of a Aerosmith video and the cafeteria has fresh shrimp and crab legs everyday. What?? Shut-up!! Stop trying to ruin my dream!!

I guess all this studying pee-pee has me a little loopy! Does anyone know how to treat nephritic-nephrotic, rapidly progressive, membranoproliferative vesicouretal reflux with a twist? Let me give you some helpful advice for rotations...go to places were RESIDENTS and INTERNS are...they tell you what you need to know, they help you learn procedures, they guide you through the jungle of the PRE-RESIDENCY experience. No sense in making a decision on residency if you ain't even around residents!
I had 2 great friends that went to Ft Myers (the land of old people and car dealerships...don't let anyone tell you different)...DON"T STAY THERE YOUR 4th Year.
If you plan on being in a competetive residency, diversity in education is necessary. Being around other medical students, being involved in good didactics, being on call are ALL necessities.
Hey you guys should have a good time, but clinicals need to prepare you for residency (first and foremost).
I was in St. Louis during my 3rd year, and while it snowed alot, I also had a blast and learned a ton from residents. It payed off.

Overall "the match" process at UHS sucks, and has little regard for student education but rather fulfilling negotiated contracts with hospitals. Make the best of it, read Ferri or the Washington Manual and figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life. Enjoy some beer along the way too!

OK...FINE, ODB - you win, but I'll have you know that it was the constant nagging and not the goodness of my heart that has made me cave: I will teach you the polka.;)
I was thinking Friday after the final because I really don't think it'll take more than an hour. Email me and I'll let ya know which room I'm in. OR you can ask J the B or Bama as they spy on me daily through their apartments.
Beware, boys. All that is being said about me is quite true: I am in fact an aggressive sushi eater and combine the fine art into killing others.

That path practical was crap on a stick! I bet we are the only medical school in America that has black and white path practicals. What a crock! Why don't they just write all the exams in braille? We need a little extra challenge.

Don't mind me, I am pissed at the world at this moment.

The path god has fallen?! Tell me it's not so. My world is turned upside down...next thing you know someone will tell me that wrestling and Santa Claus aren't real and the moon isn't made of cheese! I don't think it was so much the photos as much as more bad ERF questions than normal. MJ you know it is pertinent to your path training to know what a "glitter" cell is.+pissed+

Only 1.75 shopping days left. Although, on my budget, there isn't a whole lot of shopping going on.

Hey guys!
I don't know about you, but Christmas shopping is REAL easy for me this year...I think UHS should have given us like $1000 of our tuition back just to say "Merry Christmas." Yeah. Anyway.
Hmmm...got a new pair of running shoes today but that's not where it stops for us short leg syndrome folk, oh no - the lift is yet to come.

Des,
Since you are obviously missing me terribly I'll talk to you so you don't look AS crazy. You shouldn't taunt the poor Oklahoma people. They are still a little sensitive. I think they are afraid of LSU. The Superdome is going to be like one big drunk-tank. Those LSU people are nucking futs. I've been down there for a game, not pretty. Oh, well Geaux Tigers! Never thought I'd say that in my life.
What up people? It was 65 friggin' degrees down here in God's country. Can you believe that? I'm loving it! I'm going to see Big Fish tonight, the awesome Tim Burton movie that was filmed right here in my hometown. Anyway, I've been reading up on my endocrine, haha...I couldn't even finish that sentence. ODB said that your lessons were weak and he had to resort to Denise Austin's "Slimming Down with Polka" series.

Hey, Des if you were a hotdog and you were starving, would you eat yourself? It's a simple question; a baby could answer it. Just say yes and this thread can move on.

Just thought I'd throw some random Harry in there for ya.' I know you're missing it. ;)

Looking forward to relaxing this week and partying New Year's Eve. I'm @Caribou coffee right now hanging out. Brought my 'puter so I can be the internet-obsessed junkie that I am. Just ask John.

Was Santa Claus good to everyone this year? My favorite giftie was my new Dansko clogs. I only take them off when I shower :) .

For anyone xcept Bama, Chrissie and Des, when is our first "Kaplan" weekend??

Hey guys...
Just enjoying my last day before heading back to KC. Have been cleaning like a b#@%* today. Our house was messy, like usual. Thanks Dessie for eating with me. Quiznos is the shiznit!

Man I toured the hospital in Wichita and saw the housing. Very awesome....really getting pumped for rotations in Sept. Yeah Des had some endo the other day; toked it up on front of me without sharing!!

The holidays were decent except for fighting with my wife for most of it. Haven't fought all year, so we had to make up for it I guess. Bought a new computer for our house; one of those HP Wal-Mart specials. It is pretty tight actually. So I have been messing with it....no internet though. Hard to get good service in BFE!!

Well I suppose I should go back home. I need to get some things done, like find all my laundry in the piles of my kids' clothes. Honestly, why do six people need as many clothes to provide for the entire town of Clyde?? I have no friggin' clue!!

Peace out!

Knowing that it could blow any minute, I turn back around and pretend that I didn't see what I just saw... and return to the inspiring lecture on the pentose phosphate pathway.

Hello class of 2006,
I hope UHS is treating you well. I know that you have already been told where you are going for 3rd year but i just wanted to let people know how the great Grandview hospital in Dayton,oh is. You will start setting your 4th year up in the Dec/Jan of next year and I would highly recommend Grandview. We have just about any residency you could want including radiology, ortho, em, ent etc etc. Its competitive here so do well on boards and try to rotate through. I know that when i was a 2nd year i had no idea what sites were good so if anybody is interested in Ohio send me an email if you have any questions. Study hard and good luck on boards!(take kaplan)

What's all this noise up in here? ODB, you are confusing your hormones with your adult beverages again. You better cut back on the "shots of oxytocin" or your liver's gonna look like a pumice stone.

I don't think having more estrogen makes you understand Repro. better. That's like saying that ODB aced Mind, Spirit and Behavior because he has advanced Frotteurism.

There are two 2 BR 1 1/2 bath units left. They are 15 minutes from the school, north of the river, and 5 minutes from Barry Rd. (lotsa shopping). The townhomes are three levels- 2 BR's upstairs with a full bath, kitchen, LR, half bath, and dining on the main level, and a full basement downstairs. The two BR townhome rents for $370 a month!!!!! You can't beat it!!!! If you might be interested, please email me at ahempel@mail.com and I will give you my phone # so I can give you more information. Hey guys, i was wondering if any of you knew anything about the PRIMO loan program?? is it hard to get into?? i have been living in missouri all my life, and would like to stay here, preferablly in a more rural setting in fp, so this program looks like a perfect fit for me if i can get into it.

any help at all would be very appreciated.

BamaAlum
03-04-2004, 02:44 PM
I don't know anything about PRIMO but I would caution against accepting any loan that "locks" you into a certain field, especially a primary care specialty. I know most of us change our minds almost weekly about what we want to do and we haven't even done our rotations yet. So, you may think that you want to do primary care now but when UHS hammers you with tuition to the tune of 30 G's plus, you might reconsider. Just something to think about.

dje4927
03-07-2004, 03:31 PM
Cool Dreams,
When I started this arduous journey of medical school applications back in the Fall of '98, getting into Primo was not that difficult. For every year of tuition PRIMO pays, you have to give back a year of service in an underserved area of Missouri. Since I have not looked at the program for a while I think the people to ask are the Financial Aid office here at UHS. I do agree with what BamaAlum wrote.
Now on a different note....
I hope everyone enjoyed Follies as much as I did!!! One week until Disco hits Florida.

Once again, here to save us from falling off the page!! :)
Hope everyone is having a great spring break. I've been reading BRS for Phys.....man it doesn't get any better than this.

I found out that I have forgotten a lot of the basic crap that we learned some time ago. So I have a feeling that I will really know "Can't Stand ya" by the end of break!!

Peace out my homies!

No, you will have concentrated urine because you will have too much Anti-Diuretic Hormone, so that means you will be retaining fluid. So you will be saving rather than peeing!!!!!

Yellowstone May Be Getting ready to Blow Now!?

James McCanney just phoned me and said he just spoke to someone at the CBS newsroom and says there may be an announcement this evening regarding something that happened at Yellowstone last night, which indicates that it's getting ready to erupt now. Jim is creating an update about this breaking news as I write this.

I don't think I'm in Florida anymore.... where did the break go? Bonjour to Doctordes! I picked up my Endocrine Performance (or lack thereof) Report dated from 3/5 today. I learned two things by it...1. I need to turn up the heat in endo physiology b/c I hear that it is heavily tested on boards and 2. I need to pickup my campus mail more than once a month. Bama, UAB BETTER get the job done against the KU Jaybrows, uh, Jayhawks.

We were in the middle of the second page. Totally unacceptable!!

Due to extenuating circumstances I must inform you that the origin of persuasion must not be revealed. He/she/it is to be kept anonymous at all costs. I realize this is a difficult time for you, but think of well, ME. Having to innocently drive a vehicle to accomplish my activities of daily living and suddently finding myself in the middle of some random, strange porn gesture? How offended do you think I am? I cannot withstand such smut - my clear conscience cannot be tainted!! I must digress. I promised myself I wouldn't cry.

Yeah, but we were there fighting, unlike Missouri who was sitting on the fence during The War of Northern Aggression. What a bunch of borderstate pansies! I guess I shouldn't be surprised, after all this is the state that produced the St. Louis Cardinals. It must be sad to lose to the Cubs, the perennial losers of professional sports. We've also produced Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Satchel Paige. Not to mention current players like Tim Hudson, Chris Mohr, Terrance Long and your Cardinals boy, Marlon Anderson(who won the game for you yesterday). So, you two just better face it. First of all, Bama, Detroit has overtaken St. Louis in the crime department. We are number two in the nation. It seems we forgot an important piece of Civil War history-the General that kicked the south's ***** had ties to the lou...Ulysses S. Grant and our 18th president. On other notes of interest....The world's largest brewery is where? St. Louis The world's largest stainless steel structure at 555 feet is where? St. Louis (the Gateway Arch). Not to mention that notables like Harry Caray, John Goodman, Chuck Berry, Tina Turner, etc. etc. were born there.

I can't believe it.....the ODB and Bama agree on something!!! I called the devil, strangly its 32 degrees down there so the only thing missing from this trifecta of unbelievables is the ODB studying anatomy minutia (which strangly enough happened today as well). The Earth must not be on the right axis or something! I like the new name as well. Although rumor has it that the name that was not chosen by the Board of Trustees was the ODB's School of Manipulative Medicine.

Man, I have just been studying for Boards. I totally forgot we had a stupid quiz on Monday. I hope they ask us Board-relevant questions and not the typical nit-picky UHS questions. Oh well, just have to pass....

Don't worry Bama, there will be more minutia on this quiz than an anatomy lab practical! ODB's new slogan for the Intergrative section- Thank God I took Kaplan.
Disco Dave
PS. Doctordes hasn't posted in awhile...she must really be digging around some Buck's fascia in anatomy lab.

Boards, Smoards!!
I've decided instead of going through this terrible process of board studying that I am going to retire from medicine and race Waverunners professionally. I think that would be cool. Traveling to exotic tropical locations and letting other racers suck my jetstream! (I know what you are thinking Des, Geez get your mind out of the gutter)

Bama,
You don't have anything to worry about-you're the path guru-you'll rock the boards. You're right about Doctordes, she needs to keep her mind out of the gutter. I've unfortunately been slackin' these last two days. Don't forget we have boards, "quiz", on Monday.

Are we done with integrative yet?! I can't wait until our last week of class is over....I'm so bringing cookies on Friday. ODB, if you promise to run an extra mile you may have one.:)
Tutoring anatomy has taken over my life lately! I'm so glad to be done with it now.
Well, off to study some path....
Bama, let's get on path this week.

So ready to be done with Integrative. Dr. Ivan is pretty cool. I am learning path which is definitely a plus. Still have lots of work to do though. Anyhow....only one more test and we are done with our second year (granted we pass boards; which we will). Doesn't seem like we began this adventure very long ago.

Man.....ok off to dead stuff!

Day in the life of the ODB:
1. Going to class
2. Studying for boards
3. Exercising
4. Eating/sleeping
5. Throwing drunk vagabonds out of my apartment
How are you guys doing?

ODB,
What's this nonsense? Did Bob try to make a bootie call again after a long night of bingeing? What drunk vagabond came over....I'm assuming it's not a girl (you would never be so lucky).
Next time I pass you on the highway, could you please not flash me; for the sake of other drivers it's just safer that way.
Control yourself, David. Seriously.

Doctordes,
Nonsense?! I actually had a drunken bum stroll in my apartment. I could have been killed...I guess the well being of the ODB means nothing to you :(. NO love from Doctordes. You're just jealous... the ODB is getting buffed and you're not getting the stuff. You know I have no self control.

Man it sure seems weird that we are officially done with med school, outside of summer school. Didn't think that this day would ever get here.

Now it is time to be a slave to the grind and learn some stuff for D-day. Got exactly 30 days from Monday. Time is tickin'

Hey are we 3rd years now?

drchris33
05-15-2004, 10:52 AM
that is a good question Mary. But I am not going to call myself a third year until after I pass my boards. Also, we still have summer school, so assuming we are still second years there too.

Hell I don't know.......back to neuro!

What up my Board-studying homies? I spent nearly an hour constructing an hour by hour study schedule this morning. It goes all the way up to my USMLE on June 2nd. I need that level of discipline since I tend to be a slacker. I took the online NBME Self-Assessment yesterday. It costs $45, but it is WELL worth it. It has allowed me to tailor my studying to my current weaknesses and also gave me an idea where I would score if I took the USMLE today(Thank goodness I'm not!) I highly recommend it especially if you are taking the USMLE, since it is written by the same folks and very similar questions have been known to show up on the real deal. I am going to take the 2nd one about 3 or 4 days before the USMLE. Anyway, my 2$ (yeah, that's dollars, I overbill)

Des, what's up with the Path review? We've been slacking. Time to get on it, girl. That Wegener's isn't going to study itself. :)

I know, Bama! Thanks for the advice; I was debating whether or not to take that test. We need to do path, I know - I'll give you a call this week and we'll "get it on."
He he he.
Okay, well I miss seeing you all at class, hope everyone is being productive in studying.

The ODB is getting very discouraged especially after getting the results of my Kaplan mock Comlex today :scared: . Any pointers from my fellow SDNers. Good luck studying!

PS. Doctordes, MJ is right that Wegener's isn't going to study itself.
