I'm a dumb orthopod. Is everyone doing this? What are the advantages/disadvantages and the price gap? Are there newer techniques out for vision correction? I was told by my OD that I was perfect for LASIK (-2.5 in each eye, stable x 10 years, in my mid twenties, and no astigmatism) The problem is that I'm worried being a surgeon and getting work done on my eyes. I have heard that LASIK can mess up your close vision, but can't find any good research stating that. I am willing to pay whatever to get the best techniques. (You like hearing that don't you....lol)

If you have never worn glasses in your life you will need reading glasses to see up close in your forties. If we correct your myopia and give you perfect distance distance vision you'll be in the same boat and need reading glasses in your forties

The precise laser procedure to do will evoke some debate, but they're all good.
20% of lasik is done intralase and 80% with a microkeratome and I think you'll have a hard time saying ones better than the other. People like Lasik because of the quick painless recovery.

That said, I prefer surface ablation for family and people who really desire my opinion. Better safety profile but more discomfort and longer recovery. Surface ablation covers 3 procedures PRK, Epi-lasik, and Lasek. Essentially these techniques eliminate the most common potentia for a problem, the flap.
