I know it talks about finding a D.O. in the FAQ, but I'm having an extremely difficult time finding one to shadow in the Bay Area. I've called pretty much all the local hospitals and have had no luck. I've looked in the phone book and all there are is MDs. I called Tuoro which is located in the north bay and they told me they couldn't endorse any D.O.s. I tried osteopathic.org but unfortunately it doesn't list any work numbers for the D.O.s on the site, nor does it show where they work. Has anyone had any luck finding a D.O. to shadow in the bay area? Or could someone give me other suggestions on how to find one? Thanks.

Have you tried contacting your state osteopathic association to get some help with that? That's how I found my DO to shadow. You can get the information to contact them here:

Good luck

I live in NYC so this my not apply to you, but the other day a picked up a copy of "healthy leaving/sustainability" yellow pages and I was suprised to find so many DO practiciing in the city. I would have never expected it at all since you have to graduate from the Ivies to get any job in the city:). These doctors were very focused on the holistic approach to health care that osteopathic medicine is famous for. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into both of those.

I did some searches and San Fran is a very tough place to find DOs. Is it possible to go to LA for a day trip to get your letter? Then you would obviously have many more options and can use the sources above and what's in the FAQ.

Actually Tuoro- Mare Island is north of SF and there are D.O.'s there and in the surrounding Bay area. Just check the phone book for the Bay area. Some are even employed by Kaiser.

I'm a student at TUCOM-MI, and I know that at the Touro University Medical Center in Glen Cove, about 10 minutes from the school, they let medical students shadow sometimes - it couldn't hurt to give them a call and ask if you could tag along. They are all DO's and professors at TUCOM, and cover Pediatrics (Foy), FP (Towne), IM (Marske), FP with an OB/GYN focus (Daly), and OMT (Strebel). Their number is 707-638-5700.
Good luck.

Thanks all for the responses and suggestions, and particularly to HG for doing a search for me. Unfortunately travelling to LA would be out of the question until at least June. I hope it doesn't come to that though.

Haven't had much time recently but I'll be trying those suggestions this week. Hopefully something will come of it.

Hi
Can you give me the contact info of the DO you shadowed? I've been calling everywhere and either had no response or have been rejected and it's been really disappointing so far.
Thanks! I would really appreciate it
