MD Informaticians -- I'm talking about docs who have either an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or Master's degrees in Informatics. They serve as the clinical directors of EMR initiatives, consultants working at EMR companies, etc.

I had never considered it until recently. I always thought it was pointless to hold an MD if you wanted to do informatics. Learning krebs cycle doesn't do you much good when you're working with a 4000 table EMR database. Recently, though, I've heard more and more docs say that they need MD Informaticians to bridge the gap between the clinic and the technologies that are available.

What you do think about the value of an MD Informatician?
